Gay sites in UAE, Oman, and especially Iran.

I am traveling with a laptop to the Middle East, specifically UAE, Oman, and Iran for a period lasting several months. I know that in Iran especially certain websites are blocked or filtered out through keywords. My question is how do locals, or expats get around these restrictions? Specifically, I'm talking about ananomyzers, (or websites that break through blocks, I tried anonymouse dot org, against the Chinese firewall, and the results were mixed). Some websites came out fine, others were all mixed around, and unusable. Specific websites I need to access are personals sites, or sites with user profiles, pictures, and ability to contact other members. I DO NOT need to access political, or news sites, just personal sites important only to me. Some of these sites are gay-specific, like gayromeo, or gaydar.

Thanks.

why take any chances? i wouldn't go near those websites while you are in those countries. you do not know what kind of trouble you could get into.

i am sure you can survive, for your own safety, with out your profiles and personell ads for the duration of the time you are in present and residing in those environments.

it's your well being at risk here. think about it.

lol i looked up porn in some arab countries, i used blogs though, they're not blocked :D

I am not looking for porn, just gayromeo, an gaydar, an it's more Iran I am asking about, not the Arab countries. I'm not sure if you know, but Iran has one of the world's best internet filtering systems, maybe second only to the Great Chinese firewall, which I managed to beat a couple times, but I didn't know about gayromeo back then, so I never tried it.

Anyways, Gayromeo, and especially manjam is full of Iranian profiles, the latter has hundreds of guys, with pictures in Tehran alone, so they are using these sites, either at home, or in the back corner of one the countless Internet cafes there, so it's happening, and I don't think they will arrest them for browsing specific websites, I think they just tell you stop it, so don't worry. I will be with Iranians the whole time anyways.

The Middle East is officially scary. Please don't look up porn while you're there. You may have been able to explain how hot and horny cum filled manholes ended up in your history to mom when you were a teen, but it's not going to fly with the authorities out there. I saw video by accident that apparently came from the middle east of a guy having a long spike shoved up his rectum. Then they stood him up and he was impaled on the spike. As he slid down it finally came out through his shoulder. AHHHH!! Please don't let this happen to you.

pm link to vid plz

That's fucking insane! This planet has some fucked up people on it, especially from the lunatic muslim area. To torture people to death over ideology, sexual preference or anything is sickening and wrong. You're taking a really stupid chance.

Just one little thing to add you say you have seen lots of personal ads for guys in Tehran now i wont swear that its the same as i am not sure but i have a villa on the banks of the Nile at Luxor and its not unknown for the Egyptian police to set up false profiles and arrange meetings the rest i am sure you can work out yourself but its fair to say compared to the Iranians Egyptians are quite understanding so i would suggest the same as everyone else leave the sites well alone and have a little clean up of your hard drive.

Just go to witopia.net, works like magic.

Manjam is very popular in the UAE, so is the mirc channel gayarabs

I realize there are a lot of sexy guys in places like Iran and Saudi Arabia, and a vibrant underground gay culture, but it is really not worth risking your life and freedom over. If I visted one of those place I would check my gay card at the door.

Some of you have a really bad image of the Middle East, especially those people making jokes about executions, beheadings, etc... I'd bet most of the people making offensive comments about an entire country, or region have probably never even been there...

I will stick with my instincts on this one.

Ya, going to Iran = death, what a stupid conclusion some of you have made. Hey, if they kill gay in Iran, what the hell are all those Manjam and Romeo profiles still doing there? On manjam alone, almost 100 seperate profiles have logged on in the last 24 hours. According to your logic, they should be dead by now, after all being Gay = being dead in Iran.

I bet you are an American, and that is why you hate Iran so much, and have you even read the details of the circumstances involving the exectuation of the those 2 boys? Do you even know what you're critizing, or are you so blind to the fact that they are gay, and therefore are demigods on earth.

America has one of the highest execuation rate on the planet, and you have the nerve to criticise Iran, what a load crap.

Concentrate on your country, before you get involved in another war.

Facts remains that the US does not have the death penalty for being gay. Iran does have it and they have not shied away from executing gay people in the past. Scroll up to the pic of the two hanged teens. I'm not American (and against all forms of the death penalty), but I do call executing gay people barbaric.

Look, there may be a 'vibrant underground gay culture' in Iran and there may be Iranians with profiles on Gayromeo, but they're still playing with fire. But as natives, they are (probably) well aware of that. Also, they have intimate knowledge with the country's culture. They know how things work, they blend in and, most importantly, they know how to play the game. As a foreigner you lack those advantages.

My advice: don't be stupid. Put a notice on your profile that you'll be offline for a while. While there, keep your gay side under check. Most of all: stay safe.

Look, I'm Lebanese, and i agree with most westerners on this site that what Iran is doing is at least a little barbaric. Just be careful is all we're saying.
have fun on your trip :-)

Of course I will be careful, and I already know what to do re: discretion in Iran, I am not stupid. Actually, I had no intention of getting political here, I just wanted advice on how to access gay sites in Iran, but I guess I asked the wrong people, who obviously hate Iran.

And I know what Iran does to gays is wrong, but that's the last thing I want to hear from a bunch of ignorant, political gays in America complaining about another Muslim country they've never been to, and probably don't know how to handle.

And barbaric is your media that brainwashes you about the Eastern world. You know nothing except what your corporate media feeds you, and that's barbaric. Intellectual barbarism at its worst.

You wanted advice, you got it. It's not what you wanted to hear, but that's the way we see it.

I don't believe anyone has commented on Iran itself, but only on the simple fact that homosexuality is illegal there. It sucks, but it's the reality: if you go to Iran and visit gay websites or have gay sex, you put yourself at risk. Let's draw a comparison:
In the Netherlands, smoking weed is legalised. I am allowed to roll a spliff and light up. If I go to Indonesia, I wouldn't dare to smoke a joint there. Why? Very simple: if you go to a country, any country, you have to abide by its laws. I may be allowed to get high here, but I am bound to Indonesian laws while there, so no weed for me. Same for you in Iran: while there, you have to follow the local laws. And visiting a gay sex site is simply illegal. No hatred of Iran at all, just a simple truth: follow the laws of the place you're in.

I am getting upset because you are acting like an ass,

and you are NOT getting it, i know it's against the law, and if you can't help with my the filtering system fine, but keep your uninformed political opinons to yourself. i never asked you what you think about sexuality laws outside your own country, i just said do you know how to access specific sites

As far as I am concerned, unless you know how to do that, don't answer the post.

and lol @ moral high ground coming from an American, give me a break.

Canadian? And you think that means your better informed? Please

You people don't know jack squat about Iran, and therefore your opinons on the country, (gay or not) are worthless.

The sad reality is if actually ever visited Iran, you would probably love it, but you will never find out, since you've closed your mind to that part of the world because of 2 executions?

And what makes you think they were children? Anyone, anywhere under 18 years old is a child? Have you considered maybe different countries have different cut off points for age of consent, maturity, voting, etc/... Regarding the latter, I know Iranians can start voting as early as 15, few do, but that's the law.

And executing rape victims? You forgot to mention these rape victims killed their rapists, which makes them murderers. And it's because they commited murder they faced execution, not because they are raped. Just your head, oh wise North Americas, you think you're so ahead of the world, but all you know how to do is judge anyone against your trends.

I know in the US you can murder someone, and call it self defense, manslaughter, 2nd degree, etc.., but what makes you think you are right layering murder like that? Killing someone is murder regardless of the circumstances. Hell, you can say soldiers in Iraq are murderers, and many of them are, but you call them soldiers, and it's permissible to kill all of a sudden.

Bottom line, you are NOT in the higher moral ground, NO ONE IS, it's called the WORLD, and different cultures deal with the same problems in different ways, NOBODY is superior in morality, because morality is relative, and subjective to different factors, some of which you're confused minds well never understand. Too much CNN..

You see where this is going now.
