If it made $28 million the first weekend, but cost $110 million to make, that's hardly a good return. I'm sure with overseas markets and so forth, it won't be a money-loser, but I doubt it'll be something they'll be rushing to make the next installment of, either.

Lex

The next one shouldn't cost nearly as much to make.

So has anyone actually seen the movie yet? Ive read some good and bad things about it but was curious about how people felt here about the actual film itself.

Will be seeing it some time today since there isnt anything else that interesting to see.

Re-runs of Battlestar Galactica?

.
Saw a review on my TV this morning. Nothing was mentioned about homophobia. Reviewers just didn't think it was a very good movie. If I'm going to spend at least ten bucks on a movie, I want to get my money's worth.

You do realize there is a difference between boycotting a film and just not watching it due to a lack of interest in the film?
I fall into the latter. If there was no controversy, it's highly unlikely that I would ever see it in a theater (or buy the DVD) anyway.

No reason for me to watch something that interests me only marginally, when there are far more interesting movies (and other media) that I would probably enjoy much more, than I can ever possibly get to. I have probably seen no more than 10% of all the movies that I KNOW ABOUT already, and that would be more comparatively interesting to me than Enders Game.

Most of my friends loved it - they're making plans to go back this weekend.

I'll probably see it eventually at a friends house or on an airplane or something. I liked the book. Couldn't really give a shit about what some guy I'll never meet or care about thinks of where I put my penis.

I read the book and liked it. But I seriously doubt some aspects in the book would make it into the movie anyway in THIS country.

However, I tend to just netflix movies nowadays anyway, so I can wait. Got a 110" home theater, popcorn and NO kids or cellphones.
Not to mention very comfy massaging recliners, so I'm set.

So yeah, I'm gonna watch it, just not in the theaters.

Do you realize that a lack of interest can be based on the person who wrote the material which might have otherwise been interesting had they not written it?

That is just the person lying to him/herself and denying him/herself what is desired over nonsense.

Bullshit. I promise you if David Dukes suddenly penned a book that became a movie I would have zero interest BECAUSE he write it. The character of the writer sometimes does matter to some people and just because you can't relate to that doesn't make it nonsense.

Wouldn't DD have to learn how to read a book before he can write one?

But back to the point, you would lock out any possibility of reading said book without any interest in at least finding out what is being written about? THAT is bullshit. I have never found a human being with such a lack of intelligence as to function that way. Are you saying you are such a creature?

In an intelligent human being there will be interest to know at least what the book is about, at least some curiosity. Again, said subject would be lying to himself to say otherwise.... Or brain-dead.

It has been a complete pleasure watching Card backpedal as hard as he can. You rarely get to see such obseqious behavior from one of these guys.

Yes...absolutely...I have never watched FAUX News except to see the snippets people post on message boards. I will not subject myself to their propaganda. I am not at all curious. If I find the character of the individual or establishment reprehensible anything they have to say holds no interest for me. I don't slow down and look at accidents either despite people insisting that they "know" "we all" want to look...how embarrassing for them is that that they think their own POV is shared by everyone else?

I am neither lying to myself nor am I brain dead. It's OK if you think I am either or both though..|...

Weird it appears based off of the non scientific means of this test that gays will view the movie at a 60% rate..... so basing that in the total pop where we are 10%-ish... I doubt sincerely that the 2% who don't watch will make much of a message. The 2% who would not watch regardless would always be there.

I am sure in the end the boycott effort will be deemed (err...spun) as a success because many epic and intricate SciFi books have shit turnouts in the US. The imagination lacking I suppose. I digress....

So, I suppose the bottom line is, watch it if you feel good inside about it, don't watch if you don't feel it is ok. NEITHER move will make a damn bit of difference.

Nah... really?

2% is a HUGE difference for movies that make millions. 2% of 100 million is 2 million. Why would you want to give your hard earned money to a bigot who's going to spend it to help promote homophobia? Just watch it for free somehow. Go to a friend's house who's going to Redbox it or something, check it out at the library for free. Or like you said, give your $13 to this homophobe if that doesn't bother you.
