If she's actually a woman, I just saw one of the most baller races ever. If not, oh man is that one going to be embarrassing. With all the controversy about it, I thought that "she" wouldn't perform well in the final--purposely or otherwise. But she comes out with this dominating performance that suggests she might be one of the best female running talents ever or....she really isn't a she.

Wow. Yeah, I read about this.

In one picture that I saw, s/he has a lot of hair under the arms.

In none of the pictures that I saw did I notice even a hint of camel toe.

In the interview posted above, s/he sounds very masculine.

My only guess is that s/he's hermaphroditic, thus the confusion?

The IAAF is convinced that there's no evidence of cheating, but there's plenty confusion.

The situation is unfortunate, but will be instructive about current conceptions of gender.

I dont think the IAAF should have made it public until they did the test.

Its very embarassing for "her" and "her" family.

It also could have negatively affected her other races.

Do you think "she" can sue if/when the test comes back that she is biological female? or do the IAAF rules state they can do this?

IS SHE a he? That is the question being asked at the world championships about South Africa's Caster Semenya.

The 18-year-old 800m gold medal favourite has burst on to the world scene in recent months, with her appearance, including obvious facial hair, and muscular build igniting speculation about her gender.

Semenya is scheduled to race in the 800m women's final tonight Berlin time, about 5.35am Melbourne time.

Reports out of Germany suggest Semenya is likely to run.

Look at the abs...!

Compare her/his thighs with those of the other women in this photo; also notice that what she's/he's wearing as compared to the bikini styles of the other women; looks padded to me:

Abs dont prove anything. If you watch the World Championships many of the females athletes have well deined 6 pac abs. It comes with intense work outs.

Heck even Janet Jackson has a 6 pac.

Yeah, genetics aren't cut and dry. In this case, the runner has the appearance of a man, but identifies (?) as a woman and has some female subtleties.

I think they were tipped by her surname. Ovulya would be much nicer. She's sort of cute on some pictures. Anyway, I think it's disgusting that this made the news before the actual check. They're doing harm to this poor woman.

Anyway, do You know that one olympic champion, Stella Walsh / Stanisława Wałaszczyńska, Wałaszyńska oslt proved to be a hermaphrodite after her death? Although her male genitals weren't grown.

The saddest thing about all of this is that it has been handled badly by our local officials as well as the IAAF. The gender test was requested weeks ago by the IAAF but suddenly it has exploded out into public.

By all accounts - interviews with coaches, colleagues, friends etc in the local papers - this has been a contentious issue since Caster was a schoolgirl but every time a quick exam has proven her to be female.

Supposing they find otherwise - how does an 18 year old, because she is that young, deal with discovering she is hermaphrodite or something similar when the whole issue is under the entire world's microscope?

The handling of this has been a fuck-up from the word go and the IAAF should not have let it become a media circus.

Both of those women have tits. Caster Semenya has no tits. Also, they look like women...Caster looks, talks, and runs like a dude.

However lots of people seem to be very sure she's a she, and I bet when the tests come back she'll end up being a very, very butch girl.

This has actually been an issue in women's sports for decades.

There are a lot of females who will test as XY who tend to be athletic. This brings into question what are we going to consider WOMAN and MAN.

Jamie Lee Curtis is XY, but is completely female in her anatomy. The only difference is that XY females cannot conceive.

But it says a lot about the gray areas of genetics when it comes to how we determine, via mere physicality, male and female.

Snopes.com also says this is one of those rumors that won't die, despite the fact that's there's a complete lack of evidence. But since Jamie Lee Curtis refuses to talk about it, there's no way to say with 100% certainty that it's false.

I guess it falls in the same category as Tom Cruise being gay...
