Apparently, she's a hermaphrodite with no womb or ovaries, and does have testes that aren't descended. It really is a shame that the matter wasn't resolved before the World Champs, which would've saved both Semenya and the IAAF a lot of embarrassment.

Well, I feel bad for her, but is it fair to the other women to let her compete in women's events?

And she wouldn't even make the finals of the Men's event. Her time in the 800m was 1:55:45, and the slowest man was 1:47:80...

Its not her fault she was worn like this. She identifies as female.

There was a Greys Anatomy episode where a little girl got to choose who she wanted to live her life as, and she chose to be a boy.


Caster never cheated. This is a health issue.

Sure, it's not her fault at all. And she should be proud of who she is.

But how can a genetically female athlete compete with her? They can't. That is very unfair.

Maybe they need a third category for hermaphrodites and transgender? She wouldn't win against a man, and would beat any woman, so she's stuck.

I do feel bad for her. What was her trainer and home country thinking?

Well, if the report is correct, Caster has a whole new set of pronouns to choose from.

I agree there is no evidence of deception and the awarding of the medal should probably stand. I also would say this should be the last race in the women's division.

But all of that seems incidental to the important point; this is hardly the way to give someone important medical news.

I imagine Caster's genetic reality, combined with her physical development, combined with being raised as a girl, may have left a profound mark on her psyche already. If she never quite felt like she was like the girls in her classes, which is very likely, there is now a clear indicator why. Success in sporting events certainly would have been the success that might have lifted her out of that angst, so this news must be doubly troubling.

All in all, what a ridiculous way to find out.

What if you were a woman (with ovaries and low testosterone, as most women do) who competed against her and you came in second place? You trained your whole life for this event. Victory was snatched from your hands by someone you couldn't physically compete against.

Would you want her to keep her gold medal? Is it fair?

She keeps the medals because she honestly felt she was female so she was not cheating.

A medal can only be taken away if a positive drug test is found or proof is there to indicate an athlete knew they were ineligible but competed anyways.
