Many of us, (including myself) who lived the the Tampa Bay area in the late 90's/early 2000's have a somewhat - oh, I don't know - different view of the spotlight that shines on Mr Beck.

You see, he started his first talk show here in FL, and back in those days presented himself as more of a shock jock than anything else.

Many of his shows were filled with sexually-fueled content, (including the sexual positions he could get his wife to agree to and the easiest way to get a girl to "swallow" when she was least expecting it.

His Web site included a page entitled "Flash Mountain" that featured pictures of women flashing their boobs at the top of Splash Mountain in Disney World.

All of this was titillating fun, (pardon the pun) but it was not much more than the last gasp of local talk shows before clear channel bought up everything and pretty much destroyed the format.

Not, ALL of his shows were silly. He would at times bring up topics such as what effect so many males growing up in fatherless homes was going to have on society, and often he would speak of his own demons brought on by alcohol and drugs.

It was, and I'm being generous, an "OK" talk show, one that could keep you interested for your half hour drive home in the afternoon.

But, that Beck is long gone.

I force myself to listen to about an hour a week of his current radio show, (Just as I do Limbaugh's - keep your enemies closer and all that...) and I'm amazed just how BAD and amateurist it has become.

Often times, several minutes of airtime are taken up with his laughing into his microphone, obstensively at an inside joke he;s sharing with his sidekicks. This is buffoonish behavior that is going to implode.

By contrast - and much as Rush offends and sickens me, I'll be the first to say he is an excellent broadcaster. He can sell 'em snake oil, and does so on a daily basis in turn for enormous personal gain.

Beck doesn't have that gift. Instead, he is headed for a trainwreck as fast as Charlie Sheen.

And yet, the tea-baggers refuse to see this....

Early on, I used to watch Beck, but I don't anymore. He used to support the Libertarian approach to topics, which is more my political stance. As soon as he found God and injected it into his show, causing his ratings to jump, his show turned into a mess. That was about the time that he stopped having guests scheduled.

Every once in a while I tune in, and then shake my head and turn it off.

He has stated two things that I agree with whole heartedly: Gay Marriage is not a threat to America, and Hillary would have been a better president over Obama and McCain.

I love this guy... he writes this when his first post in this thread was nothing more than an "ad-hominem" attack...


I come in this section to read the back and forth and as a person who tends to lean more centrist than anything else I can usually sympathize with everyone ...but this guy... he just makes me laugh with his constant barrage of left hating propaganda. Never anything insightful to add just any way to turn the subject matter around into an attack on the left. It's funny as hell.

I am beginning to believe more and more each day that he is indeed a plant or a fantastic satirist.

I never said that there weren't any right wing bashers on here... but most of the time people of both sides do tend to not start immediately with the bashings of the other side. There is a modicum of civility in here. Most of the time.

Laika, on the other hand, takes every opportunity to bash the left in EVERY one of his posts. ... If someone points out in a thread that someone from the right said this or did that he is the first to say well look at so and so from the left. He has a difficult time defending the right without first bashing the left. Or in most cases trying to deflect attention by bashing the left.

I stand behind my initial assessment... either a mindless droning plant or a grand satirist.
