Grocery shopping...home delivery

I do not fucking believe that All Purpose Flour is still sold out everywhere.

I have heard of stress baking and have done a bit myself....but really?

This surprises me as well, I honestly didn't think that most folks knew what it was for.

We have our next grocery pick up booked for the 17th and should be fine til then. Amazon delivered 2 large jars of Jif yesterday, one of the things out of stock here and clearly considered essential.

I've been doing most of our shopping at Eataly. Hardly anyone else is there, unlike our local Whole Foods which is pretty crowded. They provide gloves at the door, and are constantly cleaning. Good supply of vegetables, fresh pasta, fish, etc., etc.--just about everything we need other than household goods. First rate, but I wonder how long the green-eyeshade types in Turin will allow what is obviously a huge-money-loosing operation to continue.

Wish me luck.

I used up the last of the AP making pierogies yesterday and we are heading out to the stores tomorrow morning.

Yay.

Scored a 5 lb bag of AP flour. One of 4 on the shelf in a Superstore.

It took 2 hours to shop. First we lined up outside; only 100 customers were allowed in. Then, once the shopping was done, we lined up in a single queue for the 7 cashier stations open. Generally the stock was good...although large yellow potatoes seem to be in short supply this week.

Definitely an experience.

Outside of the deaths and illness, I see this as a positive for some of us who take 'the good life' for granted. A taste of inconvenience is good from time to time.

Nothing beats shopping in person.

We are lucky goig left from our downstairs door there is a gigantic supermarket to our right 1 1 /2 blocks and one to the left smaller but has it all!

I just returned from not picking up my grocery order. My "reserved" time was 11 am, and when I called they suggested making it 11:45. I called from the parking lot at that time and they were still working on the 11:00 orders. I understand they're busy, but I'm surprised they have no idea how long it takes to handle an order. This is a large grocery store that has been doing curbside pickups for a long time.

On the way there, I noticed the Aldi parking lot was full. I got a home delivery from them last week, also much later than predicted in various notifications. They did eventually give me an accurate time, two days later than originally scheduled, but they were right on time that day and did most of the order correctly.

I stocked up on most things about 6-8 weeks ago -- just trying to top off the fresh food and what I forgot. Two of my relatives declined my offer of extra toilet paper, saying they thought they had plenty. I gave them my extra bottles of alcohol gel.

We needed something big delivered from Home Depot or Lowe's, and HD said they were too busy to take more orders. Lowe's took my order and it arrived early. Big difference between stores I normally consider equivalent.

The local Walmart wasn't worth trying. I could get some things delivered or sent to the store for pickup, but not at in-store prices. They're out of too many things.

About half the people I saw today wore masks. It was my first time out in about a month, when I was the only person wearing a mask.
