Harry Reid's never released his tax returns.

That's a really deceptive statement. Reid is in Congress, and all congresscritters every year have to fill out financial disclosure forms detailed enough the IRS would be content with the information in them. So saying "he hasn't released his tax returns" is sort of like accusing someone of not locking his kids' doors at night to keep them safe when the house doors are double locked and there's an alarm system armed every night at bedtime.

The upside is that he will break the atmosphere of "having something to hide". Trust me, a LOT of swing votes are being lost every day that he isn't releasing them. If he has no skeletons in his closet that he's ashamed of, then releasing his tax returns is strictly a positive thing for him.

some of the highlights of the piece are:

- he likens it to the question "how long have you been beating your wife" - and calls harry an intellectual and moral mess
- why would a Bain investor (Harry's supposed source) know about Romney's tax returns - if you own FB stock, would you know about Mark Zuckerberg's taxes?
- "if something is not proven false ........ then it must be true" LOVE IT - puts him sorta side by side with the birthers and the truthers
- he's changed his story several times - who told him - when - how many people
- it's a whacko charge - the kind u would expect from an unknown partisan blogger or msnbc host - not the senate majority leader

I'm beginning to think that while progressive crazies (the majority here) love this farce - indies are not dumb - they see george stephanaplous and anderson cooper and bob schieffer and most legit papers saying harry is like the uncle in the garage who drools on himself and who everybody references as crazy in front of him because he's not really there

That's basically what Romney is saying: I'm wealthy, I got my wealth in ways that many people say are unethical, I pay a lower tax rate than you do, I'm a proven liar about my business matters, so when I say you don't need to see my tax returns... trust me.

To independent voters, that looks like a used car salesman on steroids.

The thing is, Romney isn't running against Reid. In fact, at the moment Romney isn't even running against Obama -- he's running against Romney. I don't mean his dad, even though he'd lose every state to that honorable man, but himself: he claims to be about values, but he keeps showing that he lacks honesty and openness, so his campaign boils down to...

Senator Harry Reid is single-handidly exposing Mitt Romney as a coward. At this point it has become clear that Romney doesn't have the courage or the conviction to release and stand by his tax returns or his finances.

Mitt Romney isn’t “special” and he’s getting what he deserves from Harry Reid. Romney can easily make these accusations go away by simply releasing more of his recent tax returns. It was Romney, after all, who, when being vetted for VP by McCain's team, released 20-plus years of tax returns to the McCain VP vetting team. It's not Reid who should "put up or shut up” – it’s Romney.

At the end of the day, it appears the GOP has picked a coward for a nominee.

Actually, the proper term is probably just "voracious".

We had that discussion in fantasy wargaming, where every creature was classed as good or evil, and decided the classification was nonsense for many, because they weren't good or evil, they were just hungry, and if you happened to be there when they wanted a meal, it was tough on you, but wasn't good or evil, it was just the nature of the beast.

I don't remember nearly this much cacophony of noise about it in '08.

McCain wasn't suspected of cheating in the market or manipulating the law to rip off taxpayers or whatever, to get wealthy -- just of manipulating women's emotions.
