Harry Reid’s Wild Speculation About Mitt Romney’s Unreleased Tax Returns

Then you'd have to become a fat, uneducated, drug addicted, greedy, sociopathic piece of shit liar who demonizes everyone who isn't like you.

Ya know..... like all of todays conservative republicans. I don't think you have those qualities but I can think of a few here that do....

not a perfect match but let's say 50%

it's a good start

I couldn't be Rush for even 1 day - I can't manufacture enough rage to spend 3 hours straight calling a woman a "slut" and a "whore" just because she testified that her friend needed birth control for her hormone imbalance. And I couldn't stand the idea of taking more pills in one day than Judy Garland did for breakfast. On the plus side, Elton John would play at my wedding...after the $1 million check clears...

"I don't think the burden should be on me," Reid said. "The burden should be on him. He's the one I've alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn't he release his tax returns?"

LOL

Okay I haven't posted an actual opinion on this yet because I've been waiting. I wanted to see how this played out a little bit because I find it fascinating and SO bizarre.

I especially wanted to see what Harry Reid SAID and DID in the wake of this, figuring that might give me some insight into just what is going on. I think it has.

Now, say what you want about Harry Reid but he is a politician, and not an un-shrewd one at that. It made NO sense for him to go off half cocked and say something as outrageous as what he said with nothing to back it up and no "exit strategy." It just doesn't add up. Interestingly, as Rachel Maddow pointed out in her show tonight, Reid hasn't walked backwards, hasn't walked away and hasn't backed down. If anything, he's digging in. Now what's going on here? Reid HAD to know there would be pushback over this and he HAD to know there would be controversy surrounding it. But Harry Reid HAS to know SOMETHING (exactly what, I'm not sure) to make him comfortable enough to take such a risk.

It leads me to think that one of the following scenarios must be true.

First scenario is that Harry Reid is telling the absolute truth. I'm not sure I buy this one but it is a possibility.

The second scenario, which I favor, is that Reid KNOWS what is in the mysterious tax returns and knows that Romney cannot, under any circumstances allow them to be released. This allows the heat to stay on Romney and the returns (it isn't going away) without there ever being a risk to Reid that he will be proved wrong.

The third scenario also has Reid knowing what's in the tax returns but falling on his sword. This one has him taking a calculated risk in goading Romney into releasing them, knowing that the political damage of his being called a "dirty liar" by the chair of the RNC and being made a laughingstock all over television is worth the payoff of getting "whatever" is in there out in the open.

In any case, he MUST know something. He's just not the type of man, regardless of what anyone thinks of him personally, to take such a stupid risk without having something up his sleeve. I'll say it again, it just doesn't add up.

The easy answer to all of this is for Romney to release the info once and for all and just about everyone outside of Fox News sees that, George Will included. I, of course, am hoping that he doesn't.

By the way, I sat through O'Reilly (who I actually don't dislike), Hannity and now Great Van Sustern tonight and it's kind of funny to see them all huffing and puffing about Harry Reid yet inexplicably having NO intellectual curiosity about WHY Romney refuses to follow presidential campaign protocol and release his tax returns.

Oops EDIT: I spoke to soon, as Greta just brought up the idea of releasing the tax returns so I stand corrected. Of course, she DID bring it up just so that Reince Prebus (yuck!) could tell us why he shouldn't and then twist to his talking points of why Obama hates the American Dream.

Romney does not dare release his returns because, no matter how pure and innocent they are, the Democrats and the Democrat media will attack him for every line. Own McDonalds stock? They sell high fat food. WalMart stock?, they buy from China. He may wait until the last moment to show he pays high taxes without giving much time for the Dems to fabricate.

Except the issue isn't going to go away for him so, not really "game, set & match."

the game set match is for reasonable people who know the tactic is loathsome and transparently fraudulent

for others, and it appears you're in the camp, partisanship trumps reason and "it's working" becomes the narrative - not that it's a cheap political Obama backed attempt to dominate share of voice in the media

this specific is not about mitt's taxes - harry reid's proclamation on the senate floor is a new low and suggests that we live in France of all places - where you are presumed guilty

Yep, it's not over for those who think only the GOP is intellectually dishonest, but can't or won't admit in their politics it's war damn the consequences. Reid IS a disgrace...and no, Mitt isn't completely exonerated by the Washington Post but they are actually trying to be fair and balanced. Something you rarely see in these here parts....not on FOX-GOP, or MSNBC-DNC either.

Yes, whether Harry Reid was right in saying that, whether it was a blatant lie or not - that's completely irrelevant. At worst, he's discredited himself even more. Won't make Romney's tax returns any more released.

Rolyo85: why are you interjecting logic into our nonsensical thread?

The upside is that he will break the atmosphere of "having something to hide". Trust me, a LOT of swing votes are being lost every day that he isn't releasing them. If he has no skeletons in his closet that he's ashamed of, then releasing his tax returns is strictly a positive thing for him.

Except, he clearly does, or he would have.

1) Harry Reid isn't running for President.
2) George Romney wasn't eligible to run for President because he wasn't born in the USA.
3) Wouldn't be the first time Mitt has folded under pressure. He's been doing it quite a bit lately.

You do realize the concept that a Republican shouldn't admit fault is moronic and destructive to the political process, yes? We shouldn't accept "Republicans do not admit faults" as a default or the system is dead.
