@Loki: I agree with you that, at some point, our country will have to raise taxes. Romney, however, wants to lower taxes on the wealthy, while making the lower and middle classes pay for those tax cuts.

Obama will probably raise taxes on everybody. Letting the Bush-era tax cuts expire will effect this, all by itself.

Which approach do you think is the sounder one? Remember: the rich already are sitting on $6trillion that they won't release. Giving them an additional tax cut is nothing but pure pork.

If you don’t think that Romney has something to hide, listen to Senator McCain who said on Tuesday he can "personally vouch" there was nothing disqualifying in the 23 years' worth of tax returns that Mitt Romney submitted to his team in 2008, when he was vetted for a vice presidential spot.

Have you ever heard such cautious speech? They think that we’re all a bunch of dumb f…k’s like their constituents.

"Everything was fine," McCain told reporters on Capitol Hill. "I can personally vouch for the fact that there was nothing in his tax returns that would in any way be disqualifying for him to be a candidate.”

When pressed about whether Romney might be shielding his returns because he paid no taxes, McCain refused to discuss such specifics.

Yeah, there it is. Let’s not get into the specifics. God forbid if we knew the truth.

The specifics will probably show that Romney paid zero to 14% in taxes while the rest of America is paying 25% +. Maybe not ILLEGAL but certainly SHADY, SHADY, and more SHADY and something the American public needs to know, especially for a man who purports to overhauling the tax code as a top priority.

RELEASE THE TAX RETURNS.

The weird thing about this is that McCain might be telling the absolute truth, as he sees it.

If Mitt had chiseled his taxes down to almost nothing, his return would have seemed incredibly complex to McCain. McCain, not understanding the complexities, might have honestly looked at it and honestly thought it looked "OK" to him.

Harry Reid might be talking out of both sides of his ass, but I respect the fact that he hasn't backed down from his assertions, and the only way for anyone to prove the Speaker of the Senate wrong, would be for Romney and the right wing nuts to stop making so much hay about this and release more than two years worth of returns.

Romney is the one seeking "the job" of POTUS.

Someone comes to me looking for a job, and they've left out information on their application, I'm going to ask them for it.

If they're going to give me shit about it, I'm moving on to the next qualified applicant.

Not really, Chance. They call that effect "The Rashoman Effect".

Two (or more) people can look at the exact same thing and reach two completely different conclusions on the matter. McCain, in his relative ignorance, might have seen those returns as perfectly OK, while someone like our HenryReardon (who's an accounting genius) might have seen those returns as being "squirrelly" at best, and possibly "criminal" at worst.

The thing is, he won't release the doggone returns, in spite of the fact that everybody else since the 1960s has released theirs. That leads most of us to believe he's hiding something.

Very true. When McCain and camp had time to study all 23 years of Romney's tax returns they ran away from him and decided to pick a raging incompetent for VEEP instead. That says to most people there's something in those tax returns that's not kosher. Something criminal perhaps.

sorta like Obama not picking Hillary
More importantly, Romney was not a favorite of the evangelicals - he wasn't conservative enough - McCain needed them
