I went out with a guy last week and frankly, I was on the fence about him anyway. We were talking about which banks we were using (sexy huh?) and I mentioned that my job had accidentally deposited double the amount of my pay into my account. And it was a bit of a hassle to get it cleared up.

He proceeded to tell me that his bank once screwed up and deposited a couple of grand into his account and that he drew it out before they noticed the mistake. And he then went into how he manuvered around so that he got to keep the money free and clear (don't know if I believe that). .

I have a pretty guilty conscious and I could never have done that---

You have a conscience and it works. He has none or if he does, he has hardened it.

I stole someone's heart. I kept it. Does that count?

Pens, highlighters, and sticky notes from work. Every so often my secretary reminds me to return them when there are none remaining. !oops! There's a lot of traveling w/ my job. Crthouse to crthouse, firm to firm, DA's to PD's office in our jurisdiction, etc. I also keep working when I go home. I tend to be rushed, so I'm constantly throwing more pens, highlighters, and sticky notes into my bag instead of finding the ones that I already have. I gather them from everywhere. It's definitely a bad habit.

Alley, it's awesome that you notified the company about the mishap. You're such a sexy role model. :p If the bank catches your bud, he'll probably have to return the money. In the long run it just doesn't seem worth it.

^^awww that made me smile :P

i stole a monkey toy thing from the school book fair in middle school lol...i didnt feel guilty :O

I did call them to see what was going on--but they already knew about it and had tried to cancel the draft--which my bank would not allow. The payroll dept even made insinuations that I had taken the money out so that they could not do so. I finally just had a money order made up and sent it back to the head office--but I made sure to show my boss my bank receipt showing that my balance was more than enough to cover the draft.

I don't think so. I've absent-mindedly walked out of work with dry erase markers before, but I always bring them back. Any work supplies I end up with always go back to work with me to be used there.

I guess I just don't understand the impulse some people have to take something that isn't theirs.

Rude! :grrr:

In other words, they made a huge mistake and instead of being thankful that you were forthcoming and more than willing to return the money, they began blaming anyone but themselves.

Only as a little kid, and only once.

I hung around this guy that called his stolen candy and trading cards 'five finger discounts'.

One time in 7-11 he talked me into it, and I stole two pockets full of candy and other little stuff. It was remarkably easy, this being before there were cameras every two feet. I felt so guilty about it I never did it again...

Fast forward 25 years and that same guy is now in jail for embezzling money from his bank job as a teller to pay for his crack habit.

True story.

Oh, wait....

Now that I think about we used to 'steal' HBO and Cinemax in our college apartment.

Does that count ? ;)

No. Even something like a pen brought home from work is used to do work at home.

OH, well, there was once this painting, The Scream, from Edvard Munch....but then everybody steals that...

Of course I've stolen things.....in my childhood and late teens. It's against my basic philosophy now and I haven't stolen anything for many years. OK. I did download a few songs and a couple of porn flicks but I stopped doing that because I felt guilty.

I don't quite the "of course" remark from a few of you, as though theft was natural, to be expected.
