HBO's "True Blood" [merged]

Oh yeah .. by the way .. I thought Sam needed to "imprint" the animal before he could shift it.
Where did he suddenly get that huge ass of a bull?

I think it's safe to assume Sam was living his life and encountered a whole lot of animals before we started watching True Blood.

I guess no one likes Bill huh ? lol

I like Bill, when he's not being an overprotective pussy

So why did he need to imprint the fly? I guess he did encounter flies before .. ;)
Also it appeared in the series as if he always could only shift into the most recently imprinted animal.

I can understand why they didn't show Sam imprint the bull. We weren't supposed to be informed about Sam and Bill's plan to kill Maryann. If they showed Sam staring at a bull, it would have spoiled the moment -- we were supposed to believe that Maryann fulfilled her objective and her god actually came for her.

And as for the most recently-shifted-animal theory, I think that if he can picture the animal in his head accurately enough, then he can shift. It just makes it easier to see the animal in person. That's why he can shift into the dog without having to be around the dog.

^ of course he could just did that "off-screen". the thing is that too me at least the bull looked somewhat "exotic" = not your everyday kind of bull that would stand at a farm. but maybe european farmers have different breeds :)

I was reading the twop forums and found this explanation:

I might be wrong but the bull was a zebu, wasn't it? Why the heck did they use a zebu? Where did Sam get the "imprint" from for this?
--gwion

You have never been to a rodeo. I think brahma bulls, which are zebus, are pretty common in the southwest. I have seen them on ranches from California on east. Sam claims he is from Texas, but even if he is not I bet he has seen a brahma bull or two in his lifetime from having lived in rural parts of the south and possibly southwest.

I've never seen a zebu, but then again, I don't live in the sticks ;)

Or the dog could have just always been his most recent transformation. Up until recently the dog was the only form that he was ever shown taking on.

I suppose either could work really, I just got it into my head at some point that he can only 'store' one imprint at a time (but I'm not sure where that came from).

You're probably right. He shifted into the fly a number of times in succession, without having to see a fly after the first time. And remember, Daphne can shift into a doe or a pig, and we didn't see her "imprinting." I bet Sam is just a novice at the whole shifting thing.

I guess in times of desperation, he can shift into other forms and he's just starting to learn more about his powers now.

Some exciting casting news for season 3 of True Blood (SPOILERS BELOW):

'True Blood': 'Prison Break' alumni are fresh meat
by Andy Patrick
Categories: Prison Break, True Blood

Someone old, someone new… HBO is now confirming that True Blood has cast both kinds of characters for season 3.

First up: Marshall Allman, best known as Dominic Purcell’s son on Prison Break, has landed the plum part of shapeshifter Sam’s younger sib, Tommy. If you must, go ahead and launch into your own rendition of “He Ain’t Hairy, He’s My Brother.” I’ll wait.

Ready? Alright then. Shannon Lucio, who on Prison Break was the GATE receptionist who turned out to be an undercover Fed, has been cast as Bill’s wife, Caroline, to whom he never returned after becoming a vamp during the Civil War. (Yes, we originally saw the character in a season 1 flashback played by another actress. This guest spot promises to be a bit more significant.)

So are you psyched about all the new additions to the cast? Or are you worried that they’ll take too much time away from Sookie and Co.? Discuss below.

I love seeing Prison Break alum as part of the cast. Marshall Allman/LJ Burrows is so hot! I think Shannon Lucio is ok, although she bored me to tears on The OC...

Not sure about those storylines...especially with Bill's wife. Alan Ball really should stick to the general storyline as laid out by the books. It should be interesting to see.

Wait, what...Bill's wife is a vampire...and they haven't seen each other since he left for war? That sounds pretty terrible from a writer's perspective...especially since his maker has already created a mess. 3+ romances on one character will create disinterest. I guarantee it.

Bill's wife isn't a vampire. He was with her during the Civil War when he became a vampire. She will apparently be seen in flashbacks.

And in further Prison Break news, Wentworth Miller was set to have a staring role as the newest vampire on True Blood.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out. The producers didn't think anyone would buy the concept of a vampire that wouldn't come out of his closet even after the sun went down.

I've heard Dominic Purcell's name thrown around for Alcide a few months ago. But that would be too many Prison Breakers for one season.

One Tree Hill's Joe Manganiello has been cast as Alcide. He's pretty cute.

Oh, and Alfre Woodard will play Lafayette's mama.

He's good looking, but not how I pictured Alcide. I pictured Alcide more exotic looking if that makes sense.
