HBO's "True Blood" [merged]

I have a question about Russel's accent: If he is 3000 years old, shouldn't he be talking with some European accent or wherever he's from? This southern accent should have only been around for a few hundred years and I would think he would still talk like wherever he was from .

I had this thought too...

But if you go back to first season, Rene used tapes to help him develop a 'Cajun' accent...

And depending on how long Russell's been in Mississippi, he could have easily picked up the accent. I, for one, know if I spent more than 3 years in England, I'd leave with my voice sound quite different.

So, it's likely one part of how long he's been there...And also, possibly, something to keep him in good favour with the vampires he rules over, if most of them are from Mississippi in the first place...

But that's just my thoughts.

I....:luv: this!

Obviously they werent gonna kill off Eric, but having Russell forget about killing Eric and all of a sudden wanting to attack the American Vampire League is just too damn stupid and makes no sense.

I think Hadley's son's scene was executed poorly but made perfect sense to be part of the story. Maybe not part of this particular episode though.

I'm intrigued by Holly too. My guess is she is a witch or something. Clearly she isnt just a regular woman. No strangers just show up and they are just regular people.

Crystal I still couldnt give too shits about. It's obvious that her and her trashy family are shifters. I dont get why they are dragging it on and on, like we've never seen shifters before.
He did that because he thought the AVL/Authority was protecting Eric from him. So he decided to attack them the best way he knew how, and that was by going on TV. No doubt, he is still going to try and take down Eric

Russell doing what he did is stupid. He's 3,000 years old. Why would he assume anything? Plus a few minutes after he got there the VPL left, leaving Eric completely vulnerable. To go along with logic he would still make killing Eric is top priority, not what ended up happenning. It's fuckin dumb.

The truth is the is like one of the gayest shows ever, and prolly the first time theyve objectified and sexualized men as much as women. A large part of the appeal is the male nudity. Look how crazy people get over any time a guy shows his ass. It is a very sexy show.

But for those reasons people tend to make excuses for bad (not always bad) writing and horrible inconsistencies. I think writers take that for granted. "We don't need things to make sense just show Tommy's ass."
Russell also just lost his lover of 700 years. That's why he did what he did. That was the whole point for the opening scene when he was crying and loosing it over the remains of Talbot, and then again when he had a jar of Talbot's blood and guts. It was to show that Russell lost his fucking mind.

It's still fuckin ridiculous. Even if he thought they were protecting him, Eric KILLED Talbot and Russell knows it. Nobody, no matter how crazy they are, is gonna skip over the person who actually KILLED their lover and go after the people who were supposedly protecting him first. It makes no fucking sense. Period.

If somebody murdered your bf would you go after the person who did it or the people who were protecting him first?

He's 3000 years old! He sees Eric as an insignificant nothing compared to himself. And when you have forever to get things done priorities shift. Maybe.

Russell might be 3000 years old, but he would still have to take down all of those soldiers and Eric. And sure Eric is 2000 years younger, but you know he ain't going doen without a fight.

I found the scene totally plausible.

What? It makes perfect sense. Why wouldn't he run to the news broadcast Nan is late for? What he said, what he's done...will be absolutely devastating. That damage is irrepairable from a public relations perspective.

He will have plenty of time to kill other vampires. Creating moral panic in society is more diabolical.

Lame, boring episode tonight.

So, Sookie Stackhouse is one of us, um, I mean, a fairy?
Bring Mary Ann back. She was more fun.

The only highlight was Pam's line to Eric when he said, "What?!" and she said, "Blah, blah, vampire emergency, blah."
:rotflmao: she's so good

Yeah, I normally enjoy True Blood, but tonight's episode left me underwhelmed. I just wish this season was longer--it doesn't feel as if the stories have played out to their full potential.

The episodes have been longer this season, but I'd like to see a longer season too.

I get that everyone is in love with Eric and dont want him to die, but to say it makes sense for Russell to not go after him first when he killed the person he's loved for centuries is BULLSHIT. He might worry about the whole political after but his top priority would be Eric in any reasonable scenario. Even before he fucked a Talbot knockoff hooker tonight.

TOnight was good and crappy at the same time like most episodes. I see they are still marginalizing the gays as much as possible. Jesus and Lafayette take V while lying on top of each other, and instead of having a sexy trip like everyone else they have that bizarre santeria voodoo nightmare. Such utter utter bullshit.

I enjoyed tonight's episode....it's called good storytelling, good character development. Some people want thrills and chills that bite you in the ass but the plot was moved very well along tonight.Complex storytelling builds layers...we're building to the season climax and I'm much more invested with these people as characters as they are fleshed out more.Tara's traumas,Franklin and learning the thuth from jason about Eggs?Sam's darker nature, and how he fights those inner demons every day despite the outwards appearance of success?Sookie,Bill and Eric's complicated relationships, and the moral conflicts that are inevitable now that Sookie's parentage is known and how lethal the vampires are to her race...can she afford to trust either Bill or Eric?Eric's relationship with Pamela, and their conflict over how he's dealing with the recriminations of betraying Russell in vengeance of what he did 1,000 years ago in slaughtering Eric's family?

It's not boring if you're in it for the characters and great acting that brings them to life.Everything in the series is based on the characters and relationships from the book, though some elements have been adapted for the miniseries. But the essential stories here are what the essential stories in the books were as faithfully as possible in most instances...though if anything last year's Maryann theme, while fun and over the top,was actually stretched a lot farther than the stories. And I prefer this season as really being more grounded in the traditional dramatic themes of intrigue, suspense and emotional conflict. The Maryann thing pretty much was like a distraction,it went on too long thinking about it.I just don't feel let down, not at least with this episode. But stories do by their nature get drawn out,and unless you're really willing to commit to the story it can be distracting at times.

20 episodes, like Battlestar Galactica...maybe split up into two halves would be nice. The longer the season, the more you can play into developing the core themes of the stories. It won't happen, but I concur with the sentiment!

Tara's character (Rutina), she deserves an emmy this season(the lady can act, shes my personal favorite.....I look forward this season to her story line the most). I must say also Pam (devilish, sexy and just plain cool), Jessica (likable, also talented , want her to be more dark, shes getting better and better) and Sookie (do love her slutty innocence) also have the acting chops. Al above are strong females in their own right. The women are stealing the show.
The men are strong and sometime eye candy, yet I think the woman rule this show. They own it this year atleast. Crazy gay old guy is good, yet a bit over the top at times.
Yet I think Taras character just shows her range as a very outstanding thespian, heremotional abilty and strength is dilivered by this lady.
Pam again, I like her a bit more confident (Yet I know they are showing her softer side). Sookies character is not as polific this season with her range I feel. Shes a fairy and wants to sleep with everyone, I get it, I just want more for her (sorry never read the books).
Fell for Rutina during the first episode (love her wit and spunk).........glad they ditched the plot with her from the second season. Just writing about the ladies (not about the eye candy, the men need to step up their acting chops a bit more I feel)

I agree with everything written here.

I literally LOL'ed when she said that.

Better.

I was relieved that Tara finally stopped crying. I'm so happy to see they're bringing her mom back for the final. Sam's outburst was odd. I guess that was the point, though. After three seasons of the same personality, it's really, really odd.

Jessica and Hoyt back together. Yay. I love both their characters and Hoyt's mom is fabulous. Every line she delivers is so visceral.

I'm gonna miss Russell. Flawless acting by that man.

I wish we'd get a sex scene b/w Lafayette and Jesus. Come on, HBO, time to get your gay on. We're paying for unedited tv, let's see some.
