I guess I'm in the minority here when I say that I thought that the first epi of Season Five sucked.

OK, "sucked" may be too harsh a word.

Let's just say it was a "transitory" episode. "Treading water" may be a better way to put it. There are a TON of new characters, and Mr. Meloni has yet to make his grand appearence.

Alan Ball has announced two things: 1) This will be his last year at the helm of the show. (Which is odd, considering, unlike "Six Feet Under" he has yet to write or direct a single episode...)

And 2) The show is in it's final stage.

There will still be the obvious "gay people are like vampires" theme... Hated and repressed.

(One has only to look at the "God Hates Fangs" sign in the opening credits to figure that one out)

And 2) Goodness only knows what will happen in the 6th season.

I hope the show does not become a parody of itself, but there HAS to be a reason why Mr. Ball is "jumping ship" a year too early.
 
The show's new season is a continuation of last season which more or less a few days and so the God Hates Fangs signs are relevant and consistant with the storyline, IMO. Usually the whole hour is not top notch, but it depends on your leaning toward the characters and whether or not you like the storyline. I didn't enjoy the Jessica house party but I'm sure there are some that did, if only for the cute guys or to see Jason but I don't count it as a negative, I just assume its a prequal to something involving Jason/Jessica.

Are you sure? According to Wikipedia he's written nine episodes and directed two. He's not much of a director though...

I thought the episode was okay, but after this season I'm likely done as well. Interest is waning.

I am so obsessed with him and his story line.
 
I love that they're going in more detail with Vamp politics. Its an area of the show I've always been interested in since Season 1 & the DVD had those Pro/Anti Vampire rights add.

Loved the Bill/Eric bromance that's happening, loved that we saw an actual background history on Pam, looking forward to seeing more Vamp-Tara as herself & not a wild child the entire epi. Still have much love for Jessica, she's holding her own. Want to see more of Lafayette get back to his fabulous self soon. Not really interested in what Hoyt, Andy, Terry, or Arlene have going on but that may change.
 
Beginning to really regret not watching this series from the beginning. When I get Netflix I probably will.

Caught an episode the other night that made me want to...well, made me want to fast-forward the season and see if the Chancellors of the Authority all die horribly. I'd love to personally inject each of them with their own silver solution.

Yes, I need to do the same thing. I watched some episodes a long time ago and really liked them... but I mainly subscribed to this thread to get the pictures of nude guys. :D

I think the problem with this season thus far is that there is too many characters and they are struggling to give quality time to each of them. Some of the scenes are coming across as forced just to give TV time to the actors.
 
I have to disagree, MystikWizard. I think this season is shaping up quite nicely. The only story-line I haven't fully embraced is Terry Bellefleur's. True Blood's biggest problem has always been the finale...just always leaves me thinking, "that's it"?

Christopher Meloni nude scenes, plz. Waiting sucks.

Jessica's dress shop guy who smelled wonderful, "What are you?!" He has 16 sisters, he's gay. Plz meet Hoyt at Fangtasia.

I liked the scene where we see a bit through Tara's eyes. That was intriguing. Because she's such a familiar character it was like us seeing the world as a vampire for the first time.

Sookie, get a grip. Your constant high anxiety is making me nervous. You and Lafayette deserve each other.
 
Not a fan of Vampire Tara either, so far. I just have so much trouble accepting it since she is such a staple character in the show, and has always been firmly entrenched against Vamps. That was where I liked her best ... as opposed to actually becoming one (even though she despises what she is).
 
Tara/Pam could have an interesting dynamic, and I liked the suicide juxtaposition. I also like Jason's sex addiction acceptance.

The only weak points for me are the Bellefleur's. I don't give a shit about Terry, Arlene, Andy, Hoyt...well, that's about it. Anything else I can deal with. But I think the season is at least better than the last two so far.
