CDC quietly removed pages about STIs, sexual identity and gender identity from their website under orders from RFK Jr's offices in DC.

They also closed down one of the labs that tracks and analyzes drug-resistant STIs, which is a major issue in western countries.

The CDC received a directive from the Health and Human Services Department, which oversees the agency, to remove certain webpages by the end of the day Sept. 19, according to an internal CDC email viewed by CNBC, which was sent that day to some employees whose work is related to the pages.
Some health equity advocates say removing such resources could create gaps in access to critical health information, especially for marginalized groups, and undermine efforts to promote equitable care.

The goal of the CDC is surveillance and prevention. If we weren't already sick and dying, they wouldn't be needed.

The Administration is of the opinion that some people deserve healthcare (i.e. those who work for the subset of employers that provide healthcare benefits), while others are not.

Some of this is coming from White Nationalists in the White House who feel like things like Black women's higher maternal mortality or the higher incidence of limb loss in Hispanic diabetics aren't important. If we don't report on them, they don't exist. If they don't exist, we don't have to address the problem.

The assault on STIs and on LGBT people is coming from Christian evangelicals who have set up shop in the White House. When you have Paula White speaking tongues in an office in the White House, it should come as no surprise that the pet causes of televangelists (that they have used to bilk money out of Americans for decades) will be under assault. Abortion, birth control, STI prevention, HIV prophylaxis and drug resistant gonorrhea aren't problems if we don't study them. If they're not problems, then we can ignore them. If we remove all of the prevention efforts for unwanted pregnancies and STIs, then people will just stop having sex, right? Problem solved.

The CDC has been a target because Trump feels like COVID-19 cost him re-election in 2020. He's right about that but a narcissist can't admit their short-comings, so it always has to be someone else's fault. In this case, it's retribution for the CDC telling Americans that they needed to avoid getting COVID-19 because it could kill millions of Americans. The CDC was right. Trump was wrong. So, the CDC must be punished.

Here's the reality: you are not important enough for them to want to make you sick or dead. If something adverse happens to you, you're just collateral damage to their crusades and their grift.

You basically said it. They don't care about us. They want to eliminate health care from the people they hate, or make it too expensive to afford, which is the same thing. The things they're doing will make people sicker, spread more infectious disease, and cause people to die earlier. They know that. They want to get rid of the people they don't want to exist. I never said I personally was important enough for them to care about. Don't put words in my mouth. They want to make us sick and die so they won't be bothered with any of us who are unacceptable to them. Hawley is just one of those assigned to be the token opposition on this issue. It's a game and a scam they play. It's obvious and it happens all the time. A few republicans put on a show of opposition or support, whichever is appropriate for the issue. But just watch, when the vote comes, they vote with all the other fascists. Hawley did the same thing with the big ugly bill. He pretended to be against Medicaid cuts, but then voted for them. Hawley has no intention of supporting an ACA subsidy fix. He is lying and is simply playing us.

It is obvious that the insurance companies must think that the extortionate premiums to be paid will offset the revenue from the millions of customers they will lose who just can't afford insurance.

Otherwise, you'd think that an industry as incredibly powerful as they are would be forcing the GQP to extend the subsidies.

This is what I suspect. The GQP will actually provide a 'new' subsidy for insurance if Dems will allow a rewrite of the law that the Republicans created requiring hospitals to treat undocumented immigrants in the emergency departments.

They will get a win/win. A big story about the Dems caving on wanting healthcare for illegals and the wall to wall coverage of how they have helped the American consumer (insurance industry). Meanwhile, the Executive branch gets to use the shutdown to consolidate executive power and reduce the influence of Congress even further. Expect all the programs and departments they hate but have been forced to keep to emerge as completely hollowed out shells. They only need a couple of months to finish the job.

It's a little puzzling how docile the healthcare industry is.

The local hospital is almost always the biggest employer in town. At a minimum, 50% of their revenue comes from Medicare/Medicaid, yet when the government demands something ridiculous of them, they don't push back. The last time that they tried was the pushback against HIPAA but when they realized that the Democrats had put lots of sugar in the bill in the form of quicker electronic billing and payments, they quickly shut up and went back to minding their own business.

Everyone hates EMTALA.

But everyone knows why EMTALA replaced the requirements of the Hill-Burton Act. Hill-Burton said, "The Federal government will give you millions of dollars to build hospitals but in exchange, you can't pick and choose your patients based upon race, creed or national origin."

EMTALA took it a step further by saying, "If you have an emergency room and you accept payments from Medicare/Medicaid, you can't pick your patients based upon their ability to pay."

The ACA was based upon an idea from a Republican think tank that said, "Make everyone have health insurance, even if the government has to subsidize it". If the ACA were fully implemented, EMTALA wouldn't be needed because everyone would have insurance.

But the Republicans succeeded during the last Trump regime to remove the requirement that everyone have insurance, so we're back to needing EMTALA to guarantee that hospitals don't dump patients off on teaching hospitals and publicly-funded hospitals, based upon a patient's (in)ability to pay.

The thing is that the insurance companies have been jacking up premiums and making record profits- just like the pharmaceutical industry- because the subscribers don't pay the full price.

The example that Jon Ossoff provided of a $900/month insurance premium vs a $300/month insurance premium is misleading. The premium is always going to be $900/month; the difference is whether the government picks up the tab for $600/month of the cost.

The insurance companies want that premium payment assistance because it allowed them to jack up the prices without the subscriber balking. What should be happening is that the government should be asking, "Why the fuck does it cost $900/month for health insurance?".

As long as the health insurance and health care industry keep sending back lots of cash to their Congress whores...no one in Congress is going to be addressing this. It is the biggest sccam going.

And it is why I don't think that the Congress actually plans on seeing millions dropped from the insurance rolls and that whole source of income to their friends being turned off.

The anti-vaxxer tone in the current Administration has consequences. Louisiana and Mississippi are having a pertussis (aka whooping cough) outbreak.

Children get their first immunization for pertussis at age 2 months. During pregnancy, women should receive a pertussis booster to increase antibody levels so that they are passed on to the newborn. Every case of diphtheria and pertussis in the population puts children under 2 months at risk. Cuts to Medicaid, which funds free immunization clinics for children, will increase risk for children.

Pertussis cases increased during the pandemic because children were missing their pertussis vaccinations during the lockdowns. The numbers were coming down until 2024.

Mississippi infant younger than 2 months dies from whooping cough. Third death since 2008

The Mississippi Department of Health announced Monday, Sept. 29, that an infant died from pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

We had an outbreak in 1994 in Ontario and I had it again as an adult. Wanted to die.

And of course it was then realized that the vaccinations need to be repeated for adults. The idea that there are people out there who would put themselves and children at risk for this is inconceivable.
