There's no harm in posting GIFs, unless one of the GIFs transmits virus.
Likewise you don't go to the scat threads if you're disgusted with it instead of posting how disgusting the scat-loving people are, you do the same thing here. Stay out of the thread or block the images. Simple as pie.

We are not complaining the gifs and pictures are just annoying, you can not go into a thread that has 20 people posting stupid gifs and pictures that has nothing to do with the thread. Someone could have a thread about an car accident and someone is posting a Wendy Williams gif? wtf is that for its annoying and its not funny. i agree with the op its annoying i seen tons of decent threads ruin by gifs and pictures. Like i said before this website really went downhill stop being so immature and learn how to have a mature chat instead of posting stupid pictures

Most pages which are heavily loaded with GIFs are the so-called GIF fight threads, in which we post GIFs after GIFs to express our playfulness. There are several GIFs outside which is inappropriately places, like what you mentioned, but so far, those threads are rare and inside them, I have yet to see those pages having more than 3 GIF pictures - unless there is a troll inside and people responding to it.

Moreover, you cannot stand a thread when there are GIFs picture posted prematurely in it? Wow, talking about the spirit of immaturity, I think your impatience against little things are way revealing. So what if there is an inappropriate GIF in a serious discussion? It's kinda funny since there are FAR A LOT people who reply inappropriately or even troll with nothing but their dim-witted words instead of wasting quotas with GIF pictures. Heck, I would feel equally annoyed when someone said, "Children are icky and sometimes they deserve a lesson. I don't care," in a thread about child molestation compared to someone posting meme(s)/GIF(s) of - I don't know - Natalie Portman hitting her head with a bottle while swearing.

My advice?
1). Avoid GIF fight threads if you don't like it.
2). When you encounter situation like you describe, treat it like non-contributing verbal comments.
3). Stop complaining and deal with it like an adult yourself.

I usually find them entertaining, but I can see how they could annoy people. I've used a couple myself when I have one I think will fit a thread perfectly.

Yes, a little bit of selectivity as opposed to just carpet-bombing a thread with them can make a big difference. I think you've hit on the common ground, as someone who usually finds them annoying but I can see how they could entertain people. A few are good; I can see that, but so often overplayed.
