I didn't know this, if you are fat just starve often ...

It's really not a good idea to send someone on a google search when you're challenging viewpoints

Why shouldn't I? Up to your post, aristomaniac has made 20 posts and hasn't offered a single bit of proof. Not a single link. He even made an entire posts of myths and fact, and still nothing more than his flapping gums.

I did research and decided that intermittent fasting is not something I would choose to do, and I'm not going to do something at his demand that he has not made a single attempt to do himself.

Anorexia is a true mental disease and people have died from it and still do. Telling people to starve themselves to lose weight it is such a dangerous idea and I don’t recommend it to anyone

As I stated before, my weight hasn't changed ever since I started doing intermittent fasting 4-5 days out of the week for the last 6 months. It has remained at about 165. What's changed is my waist size (down to 30-32) and the muscle I've gained. Both of us have gained a lot of muscle and our sex drive has increased.

But enough of my annecdotes.

Ok, let's talk about myths and zombie myths.

Myth:

Did you know that the daddy long leg spider is the most venomous spider in the world and could kill an adult human in seconds? The only thing prevents it doing so is its fangs are not big enough to penetrate our skin.

Reality:

What a load of nonsense. And yet, most people at some point believe this myth.

Myth:

The moon causes the tides by pulling onto the water.

Reality:

Do you feel lighter when the moon is directly over head? No, of course not. The reason the moon causes the tides is by causing a slight bulge on the Earth because the side of the earth that is closer to the moon is affected more by the moon's gravity than the side of the earth that is far away.

Myth:

Cardio exercise will make you lose weight.

Reality:

You cannot out-exercise a bad diet.

Myths are untrue things that people believe. But once someone points it out, people will stop believing in the myth because it really doesn't matter to them.

But there is another kind of myth out there. I call them zombie myths. If you stop for a minute to think about the myth, it doesn't make sense at all. But for some reason, people will bitch, moan, and fight to keep the myth alive. I call them zombie myths. They should be dead but for some reason they keep on walking around.

Zombie myth:

Global warming means it will never get cold again and that there shouldn't be any snow around. Therefore, snow and cold days disproves global warming.

Reality:

Tyson puts it best. Imagine a kid walking with his dog on a leash. The dog may be going forward and backward. But the kid is moving in one direction. If the kid is walking east and sometimes the dog temporarily goes west, does this mean the kid is not walking east anymore? Of course not. Same with climate and weather. The weather may fluctuate and get cold, hot, cold, etc. But the climate is trending in a certain direction. And we know what that direction is. And yet, the myth of snow disproving global warming persists. At this point, it's a zombie myth.

Zombie myth:

Vaccines causes autism.

Reality:

Need I say more?

Zombie myth:

Skipping meals will put you in starvation mode and crash your metabolism.

Before I go to reality, please stop for a minute and think. What is a person's metabolism? Just think about it for a moment before you go on reading. Try to answer this to yourself. Just think for a moment, please.

Reality:

A person's metabolism is the total energy used by the body to remain in its current state. I'm sure there is a better definition out there, but this is the one that is off the top of my head. Think about it for a second. If your metabolism is suppose to crash if you skip a meal or two, does this mean your body temperature will drop below 90? Can you answer honestly what it means if your metabolism crashes? I bet you can't.

The fact of the matter is the human body is designed to go through periods of not eating. And it's called fasting, not starving. If you think skipping a meal or two means you're starving, you are in for a rude awakening if you ever truly starve for real.

When you are in a fasted state, the body will continue to use its storage of glycogen. Once it has depleted this storage of glycogen, it will switch to breaking down body fat into ketone bodies and begin using those for energy. Your metabolism will remain the same if not more efficient.

Zombie myth:

If you skip meals, your body will break down your muscle for food.

Reality:

The picture I posted of myself with my face blacked out proves that this is simply a myth. I gained all that muscle while leaning up at the same time by working out during my fasting. Sometimes, I fasted for 2 days straight without eating anything and workout. During these long term fasting state while working out, I always have plenty of energy and could lift more weights than I ever could before. I bench at 120% of my body weight while fasting.

Look, guys, I'm not advocating starving or calorie restriction. I've been talking about intermittent fasting. Get that? It means time restriction on when to eat during the day. For me, the sweet spot I've found is fast for 16 hours and eat a meal during the last 8 hours. I eat about 2500 calories during this time. Hence, my weight hasn't changed since I started.

Its ALL about what type of people.
Who tell skinny people to lose weight ?????

^ But not one single link to back up your claims/opinions. I had to Google the benefits of the 'diet' myself (and EVERY site I read claimed it to be a diet), and then I Googled the dangers. In my opinion, the dangers far outweighed the benefits.

By the way, your moon 'reality' is wrong. Your 'myth' is the truth, even by the article you linked to. You should have read it before you posted it.

*sigh*

OK, in your own word, tell me why you think my moon example is wrong. Do you feel lighter when the moon is directly overhead?

The reason the moon causes tides is not because it is pulling onto the water. It causes the tides because one side of the earth is pulled onto by the moon's gravity more than the other side due to distance, causing a slight bulge of the earth on the side that is closer to the moon.

I think you should calm down a bit before replying again. You seem really angry about this. If you don't like the idea of time restricted fasting, then don't do it.

I'm here to tell anyone who will listen that after 20 years of being treated for many conditions, all have gone away by a very cheap method of treatment. If you don't think you want to try it, then don't. Very simple.

Starving is a state of suffering and it won't solve anything. Attempting to do this usually backfires, because eating satisfies more than just hunger.

Well, except that it is not starving. Are you saying that not eating breakfast and lunch will starve a person?

Intermittent fasting isn't starving, and a person who doesn't eat breakfast isn't necessarily hungry.
Ok, I'm glad we agree with this.

The human body is an amazing machine. The body gets used to the rhythm fairly quickly. I don't even get hungry anymore until dinner time. I usually work out around 11am or around 4pm with my husband. Working out during a fasted state gives us a lot of energy. I've found that ever since we started doing this, we could lift a lot more weights than before and we are gaining a lot more muscle than ever before.

So, I'm not exactly sure why people on here keep insisting on calling intermittent fasting "starving" when it clearly is not.

I've been intermittent fasting for about a month now. I've lost about 15 lbs and cut my insulin intake by about 25% (novolin 30/70) because I was having hypos. I feel great. But I saw my endocrinologist today and told him what I was doing. He actually went to school with Dr. Fung. He said that Fung is a sellout an just riding his 15 minutes of Fame. But I said, "look at my results. I feel great!" Didn't care. Today he switched my insulin and upped me to 5 injections a day 😟. I'm at a total loss as to what to do.

Our mammalian ancestors evolved for intermittent fasting tens of millions of years ago. It is the natural state of man and most species in our class. Intermittent fasting is well tolerated, although there is considerable debate on whether frequent small meals is easier on the body. I am an intermittent faster myself, but when I eat I EAT heartily. In so doing I maintain a BMI of about 20. It isn't purposeful, just my nature.

Oh, ok.

I refuse to believe that our mammalian ancestors ate 3 meals a day. It is a cultural conception. Nothing bad about it by itself. However, what happened is the world today has an abundance of cheap food. Our bodies simply aren't built to take in so much cheap processed foods. Especially multiple times a day. Hence, the obesity epidemic is rampant nowadays. For the first time in our history, most people are now overweight or obese. And they can't stop eating.

On the flip side of the coin, mammals also evolved to incline towards a small caloric surplus. Only the individuals who achieve storing a surplus of calories survive in the long term and reproduce, in nature. Since, however, we have manufactured abundance, the reasons for evolving these traits are no longer relevant.

We may have evolved to opportunistically consume small meals as well, considering humans are hopelessly dependent on a large number of dietary vitamins. Other animals are not so dependent.

This is the guy who first go me (and many others) His blog is worth checking out. As I've previously posted, for me it's never been about loosing weight, it's about having the best body, health and longevity.

Because it is counterproductive.

I agree that Aristo probably shouldn't have posted as much about the subject when they're currently not as able to produce citations to substantiate their claims. That was a problem. But telling 'em to just google it isn't productive either and could have unintended consequences as well.
