  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I do not believe in sexual orientation.

That's right, Asu. Those parents were trying to give their child a unique identity by spelling it weird.

I submit to you that self-identification as "bisexual" or as "gay" is much the same thing—part of an attempt by the individual to give himself a certain identity.

That need for a certain identity is manifested different ways, but I think it's something everybody does, one way or another.

(BTW, I saw a scientific study that showed that people who'd been given "weird" names were significantly handicapped in the work force, but since this is off-topic, we'll have to discuss it some other time.)

If a name is odd to you, it is only weird because you are raised in a different culture then others. There are names that are "odd" that you have never heard before. As for Kristopher that name is spelled exactly that way on my birth certificate. Kristopher is used in Europe as an alternate spelling for Christopher. Sometimes its spelled with Kristopher and other times Kristopher uses the letter "F."

If we're going to use labels, we should be accurate with them.

First, graph attraction to same v. other sex, from -10 for other and 10 for same.
Now, on a second axis, graph the importance of personal interaction to getting turned on.
On a third axis, indicate preference for monogamy v. playing the field/open realtionship.
On a fourth axis....

Then we can just introduce ourselves, and say, like, Hi, I'm Rocky, and I'm a -7, 4, -2, 6......

I believe in sexual orientations. People have preferences that often hinge on the way we are brought up or the way we view things.

Sexual orientation isn't black and white as I myself consider myself bi-sexual, but saying that thier is no preference among people when it comes to sexual preferance is not a very well thought out statement...

and plus Sexual Orientation is a fact. It can be proven to exisit. It isn't a religion or somehting you can say isn't real. Science has proven that it is present. So...yeah...

And I'm sorry, but until we all carry both sexes with us (like hermaphrodites), there will always be labels to distinguish and know what you are getting into.

My meaning was looking at things deeper, rather then looking at the simplistic notion carried out so commonly. If we were to have a simple discussion, I could easily use the labels of being "gay" for I know what those terms mean in common knowledge. Common knowledge is not always the most accurate and intellectual however. I believe in the concept of sexual orientations to a point I was rather pointing out that our common terminologies fail to accurately describe each individuals unique character.

On a dating site recently, I messaged someone who chose the "bisexual" field, but wrote in his profile that he only dates guys.

He wrote back that he didn't want to be labeled as gay. Already, he faced discrimination from straight guys who wouldn't invite him to sporting events or strip clubs. Also, the guy doesn't like feminine queers or other guys who identify with being gay.

So, quite frankly, he hated feminine queers, and in order to fit in with the heterosexuals, he's saying he digs chicks (even though he exclusively sits on dicks).

Closeted self-hate seems to manifest itself by rejecting "labels", nowadays.

You got something on your face Kris. Right side and it's brown.

How can you see me if my webcam is off?

Ok I have reason to feel frustrated. I tried to bring up a topic and explore the concepts of sexual orientations themselves under the layer of what the common public sees on the outer layer. I try to have a deep discussion and people are only able to see the outer layer. Nobody takes me seriously and they bring up a reference to another topic from months or years ago, to put me down and I wanna know why some people are acting so ignorantly. Some simply did not understand, but were in the lines of being respectful. Can't we all be respectful? Is that too much to ask?

What you are saying is true for some, but where do you conclude your reasoning for the part in bold? He used a different label then the label many others would use to describe him. So its not that he was against labels, he jumped from one label to another. How does that infer he is against the concept of labels on an overall basis? You were telling a story and came up with a conclusion that was TOTALLY off field and makes no sense.

A man who exclusively dates males is GAY.

There is no other way around it. To reject the label is to reject the reality of who you are. It's internalized homophobia.

I had a friend who believes similarly.

He was determined to not OBJECTIFY.
He told me he would jerk off on the physical sensuality of his own body and not think about a partner during the act.

Nor is it constant. My orientation varies with the seasons -- annoying, but what can I do?

I believe in the concept of sexual orientations to a point I was rather pointing out that our common terminologies fail to accurately describe each individuals unique character.

Our common terminologies leave a lot of things non-specific. For example, "red" covers so many shades of color it can be confusing. But human language tends to balance efficiency with precision -- not always well, but that's a driving principle in language.

Rubbish, and bullshit.

Is a guy who exclusively dates whites racist? who exclusively dates guys his own age ageist?

I'm attracted to both. That makes me bi, by definition. But I've pretty much decided I'm only going to date guys. That doesn't suddenly make me gay. It doesn't make me homophobic. It makes me an individual who assessed his situation and made a choice.

You just gave me an idea for a bisexual porno! :D

A guy lusts for women in the summer and men in the winter. During Autumn its 50-50, first cum first serve. And spring he gets freaky with transsexuals. He struggles to find true love and eventually wins the lottery and ends up moving to a island where autumn and spring are the only two seasons thanks to global warming and gets involved in a 4 way relationship with a man, woman m2f and f2m transsexual.

And there's a big orgy every solstice.

I call it Season Lust
