I Got Lung Cancer

letter to Alan

Dear Friend,

I just read your personal mail and learned about the reason of your absence - it made my skin crawl...
We know each other from the early days of JUB on and I have never vorgotten on you though there have been longer periods of silence from both sides.

My thoughts are with you, and me not being religious send you lots of positive energy instead of prayers. Your future has brightened up and I am glad to hear you are gonna stay with us.

Love

Michael

Alan your perseverance is an inspiration. We all wonder how we would react to such an ugly situation.
Smoking is not always the reason I lost a good friend who never smoked once in her life. Its random.
Best wishes and thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys!

I'm having some much better days now - my energy levels are returning gradually so am able to do a lot more than I could. But I must remember not to run before I can walk. When I'm feeling energised I tend to do far too much and then the next day I'm absolutely knackered!

I went to town shopping for an hour yesterday on my own! That's the furthest I've been in over a year under my own steam. Even got the bus there and back (only a 10 minute journey though).
(!)

I got the date for my next CT scan - next Thursday 18th Feb, so (touch wood) I am hoping to have some more good news shortly after that.

Thanks again for all the good wishes both in posts and in PM's - it really does help keep me in a positive mood.

Love

Thank you for the update, Alan! I'm happy to hear your recovery is going well! Cheers! :D

Alan - I missed this thread the first time around (I was away on holiday at the time) so I'd like to add my good wishes for your continuing positive progress.

Best of luck (with the sincere hope that you won't actually need it ;).)

I'll be saying special prayers for you Alan - thanks for the nice update news!! (*8*)

Great, news!

Well guys I have been to see my fave doctor today after my last CT scan.
It is looking good. The tumour in my left lung that started out at a size of 11cm has now been reduced to an amazing 9mm!

The scan shows a lot of fibrosis - scar tissue - which means I have a lot of trouble breathing on exercise. I'm still suffering from the paraneoplastic syndrome which is causing arthritis in my right hand, knees and feet (but not as bad as it was).

All in all I'm feeling much better than I did a year ago. And, hopefully, things will get better still. My consultant said that if things go as he thinks that I will be left with an 'inert' tumour after twelve months and no more treatment will be required.

Now, how I feel, honestly.

I have cried most of the afternoon. I just can't seem to get a grip.
I sort of thought that it would all go away today. I've had enough. After the last consultation I imagined I was cured. Of course I wasn't at all.

I know I'm OK for now and I'm not going to drop dead any day soon. But for the first time I'm frightened and I realise what is in my body.

I think maybe I'm just having a 'release' day as I haven't cried much over the last year. I do hope I get my strength back tomorrow.

*Takes a deep breath*

Lots of love

Alan (*8*)
