I Got Lung Cancer

ALAN!
You'll remember me by another name (which I have post commented ;) )
YES I missed you and wondered why you had "gone away".
What wonderful news for you!
I am going on two years of not smoking after a 42 year habit and ending with smoking over 2 packs a day!....... :(
Your story is great incentive for current smokers TO quit and GREAT incentive for those of us who HAVE quit to STAY quit.
Glad you're BACK!....... (!)

Hi Alan,
I'm so sorry for your ordeal, reading about your surgery and subsequent treatment brought tears to my eyes, I had to blow my nose and everything. I'm glad you are on the mend and hope the best for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Alan - Sorry to hear about your health situation and I wish you a full and speedy recovery. The treatments can be tough...but the results can be great.

Just so that you are aware of other treatments (should you need treatment in the future), there is a treatment with a device called the CyberKnife. It is radiosurgery, which differs from radiotherapy. It has proven to extend the lives of many treated and the side effects are not as great. Many hospitals and cancer clinics now have the device and I just want to spread the word about it as not all oncologists are aware of this treatment. For more info check out accuray.com (Accuray is the company that develops the device).

Take care!

Wish you great luck on your recovery--glad you are still here with us.

Wishing you the strength, good humor, and support and love you need to get through this..... take good care of yourself!

Alan you are one very strong man. I'm sending you great thoughts for a 100% recovery.

Congrats, Alan. That's wonderful news! :=D: You have my respect for going through that treatment. You're tough as nails! I wish you continued improvement in your health. :D

I know sometimes the treatment seems worse than the disease but it isn't - keep up the fight.

I had lung cancer which was treated in a similar fashion with chemo and radiation prior to surgery and chemo after. Cancer free now for two years.

One of the things that helped me get through this ordeal was the kindness and support of friends and family. Take it all in, it's cheap and effective medicine. Wishing you all the very best for your recovery.

Feel free to PM me if you wish.

Stay positive and try not to worry. And if you start worrying, think of all the good folks in JUB who are wishing for your speedy recovery.:)

Alan. may God bless and keep you! I'm very happy to hear that things are looking up for you.

I'm also very impressed with the way you've conducted yourself. Without self pity and with a purposeful dignity. You are a shining example of the way we need to live our lives. Thank you!

So glad to hear that things are looking better for you. It is a long haul and the support of friends and family make it so much more manageable. Best wishes for continued recovery. It is thrilling to hear someone beating this disease.

I'm kinda new hear Alan, so I don't know you from before....but your story is very inspiring, and you are a very brave man for doing all that you have so far. I wish you only the very best and continued great test results...now, live a healthy and nutritious anti cancer lifestyle and get rid of that crap forever... My prayers are with you Alan...!!! Stay positive and strong!!!

Thanks again guys for all the words of encouragement.
Every get well card, every phone call, every visit from a friend and every message I received has given me that extra boost that got me through the day.

I was always a bit of a control freak in my daily life and everything always had to be just so. It was terribly difficult coming face to face with something that I could not possibly control.

I quickly realised that the best way to get through was to place my trust in the hands of the experts, do as I was told by the doctors, and accept all the help offered from my friends and family with good grace.

Once I let go of my "control freakery" and let the medics get on with their job I did feel a lot calmer and peaceful somehow.

I only broke down twice - once when it was announced I would be cured if they removed my lung. I sobbed on my brothers shoulder that I thought I was going to die. The news was such a relief.

The second time was after I had returned home after the failed surgery and I knew I was now facing months of treatment as well as recovering from the surgery. It took me a while to get my head round the idea and I was so weak and exhausted I must have cried a whole afternoon on my own before I pulled myself together. I gave myself a very good talking to and once again put myself in the hands of the docs.

I did have a few tears the other day when I got my good news - but that's cos I was so happy.

One other thing I realised quite quickly was that it wasn't just about me. A lot of people around me were affected by my problem too. Keeping a positive attitude for them helped me keep a positive attitude for me.

Love (*8*)
