The people promoting these images aren't gambling on a whim, it's an age-old marketing strategy that wouldn't work if the seeds weren't already planted in our culture. As a true opinion though. There is a divide....based on education and class within the african american community. To the point where more highly educated and wealthy people of color look at the hood sh*t and simply say....thank god I wasn't born with such a narrow perspective and I don't have to live like that.
