I removed a post to this thread because we're not here to bash the OP, hopefully anymore than we're here to bash Mods in this thread.
One question to the mods though...WHY do you do it for free??? lol.
I can't speak for all of the Moderators of JUB, but many of us agreed to volunteer when asked, because it was an opportunity to give something back to a community that we care very much about.
Somewhere down the road it became an
"us against them" mentality for some, when many seem to forget that we all come here for a lot of the same reasons; the sense of community that we all share.
There are rewards.
Like when a newbie comes online for the first time, and wants to start posting but can't figure out how to get some of the features to work and they ask for help. That's fun.
When a member spills their heart out in a thread, and then a few days later seeks our counsel to closing or removing that post/thread. The sense of understanding their feelings about doing such things, and then being able to remove their fears by do something about it for them. That's rewarding.
When a bunch of homophobes invade our website, and start posting their hate everywhere and anywhere they can find a place to post, and being able to stick it their asses with every thing in our Moderator arsenal. That's fun and rewarding.
And!
As a Moderator/Member we're compelled to deal with members and individuals that we probably would put on ignore at first glance as non-moderators, only to discover that those members/individuals are really pretty neat people. That can be rewarding.
So yeah, when all that we focus on is the negative, and the drama, the miscommunications, and the BS, then being a Mod isn't fun for anyone.
This medium isn't always the best way to communicate, and sometimes we all get our wires crossed.
However, I've gotten to know a lot about members that I share being a Mod with, and I can't think of a better group of human beings who are as dedicated to this site as I am to volunteer with.
Things are said, things are taken out of context, karma gets in the way, and here we are another thread discussing it.
There's no real malice behind any of our decisions here.
That's why virtually every decision that is made is made by committee.
The Code of Conduct and the Terms of Service are pretty broad, and can be interpreted in a lot of ways. Sometimes we don't have that committee to rely upon and one of us has to make a decision. This is the reason that I believe the Mods are accused of not being "consistent." Well, one size doesn't fit all, and one Moderator's approach isn't necessarily how the rest would have dealt with it. But we stand behind each other in our decisions.
(Trust me! We get into our flame wars too! We just don't direct our flame-throwers at each other, AND we don't make them public.

)
However the committee that makes up the Mod Team, is a TEAM, and we're what Just Us Boys have to keep this place the place that it's become, and hopefully will continue to be what it is.
We count on members like
excase33 and the rest of you to help us with that, but as has been stated it wasn't anyone's intention of hurting anyone's feelings.
