  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I would like to start a boycott of the Philadelphia Eagles

I don't care about "he's paid his debt to society"

Then you don't get the legal system.

Also, and I say this without vitriol, no one cares that you don't watch football games with him in them anymore. Not a soul. Not Vick, not the fan, not the networks or advertisers.

This whole topic is absolutely ridiculous...

I am so totally boycotting the Eagles. Have been for 40 years now, since the day I was born, not about to stop now.

Unless I move to Philadelphia.

Once more, you've cut through the bullshit and explained it all in a few sentences. :)

The teacher inside of me tells me that Michael Vick has learned his lesson about thinking that being an NFL superstar made him untouchable in the eyes of the law.

He was convicted, and served his debt to society. You will not find any argument from me that his behavior was anything less than heinous in this act.

He now has to earn back the respect of everyone. His behavior both on and off the gridiron will be watched carefully.

The Philadelphia Eagles were willing to give him a second chance. I don't think that they would have taken a chance on him if they didn't believe in redemption.

He was not a favorite player of mine, even before his mess, but I wish him no ill will.

I love how some want to cast stones, but live in glass houses themselves. Michael Vick has served his time for the crimes, don't realize there a number of laws on the books in which human life has less value in the years served in prison than other acts?

Some people want to castrate the man over those incidents, which I say he was stupid and heartless for but what's done in the past has been done. All he can do now is make up for that in the future. However, I'm betting these same individuals considering what he has done unforgiveable have committed a morally reprehensible act in someone else's eyes themselves.

I know how you feel. I want my ten seconds back that I had to spend reading your post three times trying to figure out what you were talking about.

Regarding MV, sure, I'll join your boycott. Although as a Chiefs fan living in Minnesota who has been to Philly once and wouldn't be caught dead at an Eagles game (because that's probably what would happen), I'm not sure how much good my boycott will do.

Actually, I'm all for second chances, and I hope he is truly remorseful. But I understand if people don't like his second chance and want to boycott the Eagles or those who sponsor them.

wow you should of just move on i can read it just fine :wave::wave::wave:

I'm Philadelphia-born. But I've never been to an Eagles game. Football isn't my favorite sport, and the Eagles are now way too expensive.

But I'm less upset with the Eagles for hiring Michael Vick than I am with the Flyers for letting their goaltending pair of last year go. They're relying on a has-been back-up and a goalie who can't seem to stay out of DUI trouble who wasn't even in the NHL last year. THAT bothers me.

^ You'll boycott someone if they club you to death? At that point, it might be a little late for that.

Oh, um, good point?

wow you should of just move on i can read it just fine :wave::wave::wave:

Only because you wrote it. At least this time it only took me two times through to realize that I'd never figure out what you're trying to say.

Some people want to castrate the man over those incidents

They do? Why? He didn't fuck the dogs (or did he?)....just killed them brutally.

Does he deserve a second chance? I guess so, but I don't think he deserves to be able to play football again for what he did.

So, you're saying he doesn't deserve a second chance then?

So then what would have been his second chance? A second chance as a free citizen. And not having another chance would have meant jail for life?

I don't think his "second chance" should include an exciting lucrative career. I know too many honest people doing hard work pushing a mop for a living. And this guy is supposed to have a fun job again? Nahhh....

Man you know how many convicted felons are in the nfl???

If you're going to boycott the Eagles you might as well boycott the whole National Footbal League

Consider it done!

Fun? You've never watched nor played football a day in your life, have you?

So I guess once you get out of prison "getting a second chance" only applies if you get a job that, what, makes you miserable? I forgot the "No More Fun" clause in his sentencing.

Some of these replies are so silly, even moreso that you guys are serious.

If it was cock fighting, I bet people wouldn't care nearly as much.

Because he is being treated as nothing has ever happened. And we obviously live in society where Dogs/Cats are considered family, which is where that comes from. The fact that there was absolutely no repercussions in his professional career is absurd.

What a vengeful, uneducated thing to say. The purpose of the justice system isn't to "ruin your career."

I always wondered if people realize just how stupid thy sound when they denounce logic for emotion. Guess this thread answers it.

The "man" tortured untold numbers of innocent dogs by drowning them, hanging them, electrocuting them, watching them being maimed to death in fights and starving them to a slow and painful demise.

And as sure as I'm sitting here he'd still be doing it if he had not been caught.

But of course, now that he's been jailed for his deplorable acts he's found God and redemption and can't believe he'd ever do such a horrible thing.

HORSESHIT.

Some of your are in favor of reintroducing him into society ? (Or his cruel, crude and heartless version of it) Fine. Let him get a job bagging groceries, digging ditches, or better still.. shoveling out shit on a horse farm.

I'm supposed to be OK with returning to a high paid job of throwing a ball and running into people ? Fuck that.

If NFL fans thought with anything but their dicks and their Budweiser-soaked brains they might agree as well.

But, there's little chance of that, is there ?

From my understanding it wasn't the actual fighting of the dogs that people found so heinous and despicable, it was that he electrocuted, drowned and basically all around tortured the dogs who lost their respective fights.

I realize that. Replace dogs with cocks. Doubt the reaction would be the same.

You're not paying his salary. So you need to get over how much he's making. It's not like he's taking it from you. If you want to complain about how professional athletes are overpaid, that's a different discussion.

Boycotting the Eagles seems inappropriate. You should look to boycott the entire NFL instead. Vicks could just as easily be traded to any other team in the future. Not that your little boycott would ever make a difference anyway (we all know football makes most its money from the gay crowd, lol). Just saying.
