  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

If the confederate flag is not a racist symbol..

Or How he can expose some of the latent or overt racism among some of the Stormfront fanatics who post on this board.

many years ago, I was lost in South Philly - and i stopped for gas and directions way way after dark..

A very nice black man said to me - hey -- what you doin' here,, you need to get outta here?

The same thing happened way back in the early 70s (or late 60s) to my aunt and uncle. They travelled a lot and were driving in an American city (I forget which one) and got hopelessly lost. My aunt pulled over at a phone booth and my uncle phoned his friend. The friend asked him where they were and my uncle told him. The friend told him, "Get back in your car, lock your doors, and drive 10 blocks in any direction. Then stop and call me back."

Why does this mater. I feel slightly offended by this post. Why don't we leave the pass where it stands and step into the future. A lot of people have changed and we live in present day America where we have more important matters. Just saying

I told a lot of my out of town friends if you are passing by my area to just continue on the freeway and go to the next gas station in a different city. My city is so dangerous worse than Los Angeles probably about the same as Compton.

i read: yeah - -we have sooo many more minorities to hate now ........why just in my city alone we can stare at:
Asians
East Indians
Pakastani
Bangla
Turks
and Mexicans

and BTW - those 'strange' people who opened the new Pizza place are NOT Italian, i hate to tell you !!

Then Go fly it around the Chicago West side projects. Go to every door and knock with the flag in your hand and talk about its history and come back and tell me if you are still alive.

You don't need to walk around with a Confederate flag in those projects to find out how dangerous that "neighborhood" might be for your life  As for the history behind the Confederate flag or Civil war not everything is black and white and why it was fought. Hundred years later, people are still debating the history of the war and what the Confederate flag means to people. Today, we have groups that just highjack symbols and history to push their own political agendas from all sides.

There were all Black volunteer units fighting FOR the Confederate Flag and fighting along Robert E. Lee. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8hPo6mYnks[/ame]

The Confederate flag flys over our state capitol. It is our heritage.

Mbamike...How long has it been since you've taken a trip to our State Capital? I live in Columbia and as you should know the Flag was removed from the Capital roof-top back in 2000 and placed on a Flag pole on the grounds....Not that it makes much difference...

To a lot of Blacks & Whites in South Carolina it's a "Non-Issue" considering unemployment has been so High here in SC for so many years.

You've talked about your "Black Lover" in many threads. When you tell him that the Confederate Flag is a part of your heritage how does he react? Is it simply an issue you both feel is not worthy of discussing?

Kris has done it once again.

If it isn't capitalism and socialism, it's the confederate flag and racism.

And it's always same ol' same ol'.

There are similar places in the UK which I would avoid for exactly the same reason. It's not racism and it's not fear as such; it's just a sense of self-preservation.
True, the place I was born only faces you'll see are white. I wouldn't go round most of it after dark.

I thought about wearing the swastika to take back the egyptian origins..

The swastika is actually of Hindi origins, although it's a pretty generic symbol that's probably been used in every culture throughout time. But I agree that its negative connotations suck, since it's actually a very aesthetically pleasing symbol. Wish I could wear it on clothes or as a tattoo without being labeled a nazi.

I don't think it's racist either. To Blacks yes, just like Americans think Liberal means Socialist, Immoralist, Democrat, Leftist, Communist.

It's all the Point of View of an individual.

I don't know why it's the Battleflag they use though, does that mean they're still at war with the Union?

This one place in North Carolina I saw when going south on Interstate 95 got it right when it posted the actual flag of the CSA.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in any neighborhood that is dominant with one race. I really enjoy diversity, and that's what we have where we are.

Why do you, as a black man, have a picture of a white man as your avatar? I've noticed the same thing with at least one other black poster here.
