Why don't you come down south, go up to a redneck in his big truck with a confederate flag on it and tell him he's racist for having it? Make sure you pick one with a gun rack in his truck, it won't be hard to find.

The confederate flag is a part of American History....Yes...they believed in the right to hold slaves...for the most part. However it was not the only reason they decided to succeed from the union. Furthermore...as a person who gets funny looks from African-Americans when I explain I am Half - Egyptian and Half- Scottish...the confederate flag is irrelevant. African Americans (not all and I dare someone to say I'm making generalities). generally hate on each other. I seem like the light-skinned skinny- pretty African american...and I get degraded for it. Until I explain that I am nothing of the sort....and then get further degraded because I "don't count" for the struggle. Take all that on and add it to the stigma of being gay...and ask yourself if you really know what the hell the confederate flag means. It means nothing. It is a valuable part of history simply because it is a part of the civil war.
Besides...no one can prove that someone displaying it simply likes it more than the stars and stripes - it may be their way of keeping an American (which it is) flag.

You'd think one of these days it would go away, especially now, given the fact that since 2007 more than 50% of babies in the US are non-white. I guess give it another 10 or 15 years where color isn't black and white only.

Technically Egyptians are not considered black in the traditional Sub-Saharan sense. North Africa is considered part of the Mediterranean/Middle East.

I always figured it was more so the people behind the flag, rather than the actual symbol. Then again, I guess there really isn't a difference.

It really depends on how a certain person perceives it. Not everyone looks at the Confederate flag as a racist symbol. Some simply view it as a symbol of southern pride.
Just because it's commonly used by certain racist groups that doesn't mean the flag should inherently be seen as racist. Keep in mind the swastika was never considered a racist symbol at all until Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party adopted it. Now the symbol which is several thousand years old has a negative reputation that it may never get rid of.

You do realize that a lot of the crime that goes on in those neighborhoods is not random. They're usually over drug sales and rivalries. I've lived in Compton, Ca and Oakland,CA. If you mind your own business 9/10 times nobody will mess with you..Especially if you're white.
