  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I'm bored with men's fashion

I survived the forward fashion world for guys from the late 60's through the 90's

I've had bell-bottoms, bigger bell-bottoms, platform boots, nehru collars, paisley, wide stripes, psychedelic shirts, disco suits, pencil thin ties and pants, wide collars, pastel shirts, Crayons....need one continue?

Sometime I realized along the way, that I needed only the classics in my wardrobe. Made well, but classically styled so that the clothes would look as good a year later or five years later as it did when I bought it.

I was exhausted throwing away last season's look and wasting clothing....only to look like a fashion victim.

But it seems as though Walmartization of fashion now means t-shirts with stupid graphics and cheap pants and socks.

Shoes are a disaster; I haven't seen a beautiful new pair of shoes or sandals for a decade; fortunately I still have some great classic shoes to wear still.

I say, go after the fashionistas and tell them you want cool clothes. Make your own by modifying stuff and wearing to clubs. Make a new statement.

It is how fashion moves the world.

I am also all for accessories.

Jewelry, even. I buy a lot of the jewelry I wear from second-hand stores and from retailers like Forever 21. While Forever 21 does have a men's line, 21 Men, I've made pieces from the women's line work. I think it's really about discretion and common sense when it comes to making women's pieces practical for incorporation in men's fashion. For instance, as a rule, I don't buy jewelry with any kind of stone--other than Onyx. It just seems more masculine to me, while still being chic. Also, the "Modern Warrior" trend of recent fashion seasons is full of great accessories that are of a more masculine influence and are pretty readily available right now because the trend is so current.

I hope this helps! ^_^

Because all five of the things in my pocket require a separate pocket. They must not touch each other!!!

Do you have a photograph of this shirt you could post?
I've attached the Beckham photo of the shirt. I'll see if I can find the blue version I saw in the Bay.

Men's fashion is supposed to be practical.

Maybe for you.

where are some of your favorite places to get stuff online? I like....

gilt.com
pistolpete.com
rufskin.com

I generally shop American Eagle and I love getting concert T's. I will definitely look into the bottom two sites you posted. I don't have too much of a budget for clothes, but I love the ideas. When I went to NYC, I went to a vintage store, but didn't find too much, much to my chargin.

Benners, thanks for the jewelry suggestions. I'll definitely look into it.

Thiga, if I wasn't so hairy I might look into drag. Unfortunately I hate shaving.

Royal, thanks for posting the pic of Beckham.

I have always thought it would be fun if kilts would come into fashion. I don't know if I could pull it off...but it would be fun to see men wearing them. Men can have sexy legs too. ;)

Until we all got arrested for indecent exposure when the wind blew and it turned out we were all freeballing...

We would all be freeballing, right?

I used to be into suits and stuff like that when I was younger, but I really hate them now. I hate the idea of "dressing up" because who am I really impressing?
Lately, I like to do the T-shirt and jeans thing. I know a few graffiti artists that make great (one of a kind) hats that I'll never see on anyone else, so I stick with that. Bright, vibrant colors and comfortable clothing. That's how I do.

I should hope that you would be impressing yourself!!!

Dont forget, guys in show biz can get away with alot more than the general public can. Their job is to be "showy" and flamboyant, and to GET NOTICED. But you can borrow ideas and adopt it to your lifestyle. Your true personality should always be reflected in your style.

I love all the pictures you posted, bric-a-brac especially the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th one.

I love Austin Scarlett. He was one of my favorite designer's on Project Runway. I definitely think of him as androgynous, but perhaps there's a more appropriate word for his more feminine look.

I am a t-shirt and jeans guy. I wear khakis with a dress shirt or polo for work. I wear a suit when necessary. Other than that, I prefer to be naked whenever possible.

The topic doesn't come up too often. But I'd look at that forum occasionally.

I'm actually liking Urban Outfitters, but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the discussion in this thread.

I also think a fashion forum would be great.

I love that idea bric-a-brac and have loved your additions to this thread. Thanks!
