These people who have no empathy, NEVER talk about the unfairness of some megacorporations paying NEGATIVE income taxes (i.e. getting tax REBATES from the USA government), or "SPORTS WELFARE" where a local government will just hand over $400 million to their sports team for a brand-spanking-new glitzy stadium while pieces of exteriors and interiors are falling off of the local schools and the potholes can entirely hide their BMW's, etc.

I still doubt your talk of charity gone wrong is anything more than a way of trying to cast doubt on the worth of anyone acting charitably.
You question others charity. I question yours.

Trying to justify one's meanness by saying everyone else is just as tight.

I was re-stating the problem a bit to say that Poverty teaches us virtue in a way that Wealth cannot.

I was not saying the poor are virtuous, and the wealthy are not.

Poverty gives us an example firsthand, perhaps making us more willing to learn and care. For the wealthy, those examples are often remote.

I don't mind saying, then, that there is a real value to poverty.

I hear this statement a lot. And I agree. Which is precisely why I came to the conclusion that religion is bullshit. You guys can't even agree on who to hate. Make up your mind.

If love and tolerance really is as mainstream among religionists as you make it out to be, we wouldn't be fighting tooth and nail inch by inch for the most basic human rights throughout our history.

Ok, you have my permission. When this is all over and it is no longer fashionable to hate gay people, you have my permission to try to revise history and say most religious people were always loving and tolerant toward us gays. Then you can go on and find another group to hate. May be aliens?

Remember, marriage is between a human and a human. Klingons can't get married. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Martok.

Fact is, most of the do-gooders who do things like help the poor (topic of this thread) are religious.
They're not actively converting, they're not damning people for their poor choices and lifestyles, but they are helping out.

All you pay attention to are the self-righteous zealots who use religious rules as justification for their own prejudices.

Survey in the western world showed that Empathy is down in the states by a great degree sad. Although my favourite ate the one sthat have none but go to Church every Sunday.
