"I'm One Of Those Moms That's Breastfeeding Her Kid Through Puberty"

And if you are bothered by the fact that there are people in this thread who dont like breastfeeding in public. Maybe you guys should look the other way. ;)

None of the people who dont like it are not physically going out stopping women from breast feeding in public, so it isnt a matter of "can't."

Awwww, lookit you, pretending social opinions have no affect on public policy. So cute.

Life doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. But I strongly suspect everyone knows that already, or the fight for marriage equality would never have been started.

*The joke being, that if he tells the manager or calls the cops and reports 'em, they'll be told to cover up and/or charged with indecent exposure and a fine. And you'd be free to go about your day uncovered.

Figured I might as well elaborate, since so very many people are having a problem with this particular concept.

Where did I say social opinions have no affect on public policy? I said no one in this thread is going out of their way stopping women from doing it, just expressing their opinion.

Maybe you should take less time being condescending and more time practicing reading comprehension.

Speaking of breasts, have you seen Aretha Franklin's? Jeez, you could feed the entire North American continent.

Singers need big chests to sing well.

First, it's sarcasm, not condescension. Condescension would imply that I think you and others are stupid, which is not so. I think you're willfully obtuse, which again, isn't the same thing.

which is what I responded to. Because you can, in fact, stop everyone from breastfeeding since you are allowed to go shirtless and women are not. Women tend to get charged with indecent exposure and fined for breastfeeding in public. Go do some damned research.

Because yes, public opinion changes law. Your opinion is not an island unto itself.

It would behoove everyone to remember their opinion goes farther then they'd sometimes wish and that such things actually have consequences.

And you complain about my reading comprehension.

And for clarity, that sentence above was neither condescension or sarcasm - it was ironic, though more of an inside joke than I'd wish.

*Well, sarcastic hyperbole when used for description, although I did tone it down quite a bit before I posted it.

When used in writing or speaking it accentuates the humor between what is currently happening and what everyone claims happens. It only works when the details are concrete and the instances are clearly put.

In other words, condescending my ass. Haven't done that in years, I find sarcastic hyperbole much more useful since it points out things (redundancy and self-serving-to-a-single-group statements in particular) in a humorous fashion. The description using concrete detail and hyperbole help nail it home in another way as well; If one were to negate a statement denouncing such hyperbole, they must type what would actually occur.

But if you did that, you'd then be doing research and having to admit that breastfeeding people can and have been arrested and fined and that such opinions as "Get back in the house, woman!" are not as benign as you (and others) claim them to be; but only when it suits you, o'course.

SOME (ignorant) establishments *may* ask a patron to stop - BUT, if they, you, or anyone else call the police, the breastfeeding mother isn't the one who will be charged - not under the current laws in effect in the United States - at least not in New York and many other states - I can't swear it's a Federal Law, but I do know they are protected by the law. Breastfeeding is NOT indecent exposure, and it IS a protected activity in public places.

Saying "Aww, look it you, how cute" is the way you would talk to a child. Not an adult. It was condescending, you can try to play it off as something else all you want and at this point I'm not interested in anything you're saying. Have fun.

That's nice, thanks.

....No, that isn't how I'd talk to a child. I'd hope that isn't how you'd talk to a child, either, as most of them don't get sarcasm until later in life. I've raised several, you see, and despite cartoons you may have seen on television that's not how they communicate with adults or adults with them.

That is, however, how adults communicate with other adults when they believe one is being willfully ignorant about what their actions and opinions and the subsequent meanings are. You want to pretend your opinions on women's bodies have no meaning but others' opinions on, say, marriage equality or gay rights matter, help yourself.

But everyone, including you (I think) knows it for the lie that it is. Which you still won't address. Which is why you got the "So cute!" Because if you want to play the game of "Do what I say just not what I do", well then, I'm always available. Because sometimes mocking works and if that's what it takes, so be it. After all, it isn't your life that your opinions are hampering. :)

It definitely isn't federal, I used to live on the border. The thing about opinions is they also affect how cops interact with breastfeeding women. Which is not always how they're supposed to act by law.

There's also the not-funny bit where you're allowed to ditch the shirt and no one with an 'f' on their ID card is allowed to. The reasons for the double standard are identical to the breastfeeding issue.

*Basically, I'm against adults playing silly buggers with a topic while pretending to have a discussion. Not every opinion one has is valid, so to speak - it's something I think a lot of people need to learn. I occasionally forget that myself, it's a human thing. Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should. Opinions make laws. If someone can't accept that they might be wrong on something they shouldn't be hoisting their opinions high-in-public in the first place, even by what amounts to scribbling on a bathroom wall. Because if you cannot defend your opinion beyond "Ew, Icky!" and you want others to take you seriously? Yeah, that shit needs to be mocked.

....people do piss in public, what do you think urinals are?

yes, but they are in a separate room not visible to everyone walking by like say on a bench or restaurant. which is where women should breastfeed if they need too.

I hope you're saying they should breastfeed on a bench or in a restaurant.

Otherwise, we'll have the waitstaff serve you at the urinal or on the crapper.

So comfy and sanitary.

Ill explain my post like this: Go into a private room if she needs to breastfeed. Just like you would if you had to pee. Nobody wants to see either one done out in the open.. Make sense?

Not at all. The activities are completely different.

Most women are pretty discrete when breastfeeding.
