Iraq insists on withdrawal timetable

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080708/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Iraq's national security adviser said Tuesday his country will not accept any security deal with the United States unless it contains specific dates for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces.

The comments by Mouwaffak al-Rubaie were the strongest yet by an Iraqi official about the deal now under negotiation with U.S. officials. They came a day after Iraq's prime minister first said publicly that he expects the pending troop deal with the United States to have some type of timetable for withdrawal.

President Bush has said he opposes a timetable.

In other words, Bush wants us to stay so that we can control that oil for his oil buddies and keep sending more and more money to halliburton....

I'm just worried about Iraq descending into chaos when the U.S pulls out. I just hope they make sure Iraq is standing steady in it's own two feet when the U.S leaves.

This "invitation" for foreign troops to exit Iraq is in line with American political and military wisdom, to gradually reduce troop levels in Iraq over some years.

From January, 2009 George Bush will no longer be able to drag his feet on the phased withdrawal time table.

luckily, it wont be up to him much longer.

we said going into this that we were not there to take over. it is their country, if they want us out, then we need to get the hell out.

my best friend is over there right now, it would be nice to know when he's coming home.

^ you mean the US occupation of Iraq was a bed of roses before?

Iraq was never a bed of roses. I just tend to think when you go to someone else's country and fuck it up, you should fix it before you leave.

Actually the news is starting to cover that Iraq is becoming a lot more secure. And it is the Iraqi forces that are keeping the peace more than American soldiers.

Iraq hasn't stood steady since the time of Alexander the Great. What's the difference now? Leave, I say! Leave!

Liberals. When will you learn.[-X I actually care about what happens to Iraq's people.

If we leave Iraq in chaos, then that would be a black mark on the U.S's record.

For the record, I'm a Libertarian

Rigggght. Well the Iraqi people want us out. We want us out. Who gives a shit about a "black mark" on our record? We already have that mark. It was put there the minute we invaded Iraq. It sits right next to our Vietnam mark, and the reelecting Bush mark.

The longer we stay there, the more unsecure the country is going to become as more and more people get tired of seeing us there. I think we leave now while the people are starting to get tired of the violence and take security of their country back.

and you don't think this has not happened already?? what is it now? five years and still the quagmire it was when we stepped into the mighty sands of the Middle East.

And for the record, i am a Democrat/Independent - i would consider a Republican but they would at least have to be the stature of Nelson Rockefeller.

And we wouldn't want to ruin our perfect score, now, would we?

And liberals don't learn. They mature. At which point they're called "conservatives".

Libertarians for the record are anti war and anti occupation. They have been the only anti war party, along with the Green Party. The Dems and Rep have supported this invasion. It's really not a war, it's a illegal invasion.

I'm all over the political map with my political beliefs. But most of my political beliefs fit with Libertarian.

I don't intend to be a sheep to my party and support/be against everything they are.

I just think we should pick up our toys and clean up the play area before leaving.

That's hardly pro-war.

And you are right, Leaving Iraq in chaos would be more of a shitstain than a black mark on the U.S's record.

it's pro occupation. and accepting the invasion as legal. i agree your political beliefs are uneven.

The invasion wasn't legal. I didn't accept the invasion as legal. It happened, we couldn't stop it, so we gotta deal with the current situation.

Iraq was never a bed of roses. I just tend to think when you go to someone else's country and fuck it up, you should fix it before you leave.

IMHO, I don't think that was in the initial plans.

LMAO

Leave a black mark? PLEASE!

Let's see, totally destabilized one of the few non-Islamist* countries in the region, unleashed ethnic cleansing on a massive scale, slaughtered countless civilians, bombed the country from the 19th century back into the 15th century, empowered and emboldened Iran...

Ya, if you stay a few more years...or eight, or ten... you'll be able to get it all straightened away - and continue to devalue your currency 'till it's about par with the Italian lira, drag the world into a global recession, and fill countless more body bags.

Sounds like a solid plan. I'd go with that.

What? -.-
They are so Buddah, right?

Low blow right there. Unlike McCain. I want to GTFO of Iraq asap.
You do realize if we stay to "clean up our mess" it will be another 5 plus years right? Surely you have some common sense?

So you are ready to accept what might happen if we pull out in let's say now? Or you don't give a damn what happens to the Iraqi people?
