  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

IS JUB over?

Two things.

One, as others have mentioned, JUB seems to ebb and flow. It seems there are days when all the topics are petulant arguments, discussions about pop culture items I know nothing about, and sexual banter that's leaves me as firm as a month-old banana. At times like this, if I have nothing to add, the smart move is simply not to add anything. Eventually, the ship seems to right itself.

Second, and more to the point (and a bit ironic considering where I'm posting this), is something I call the Hot Topic argument. Find yourself a 17- or 18-year-old punkish kid, and ask him what he thinks of Hot Topic stores. Chances are good he'll say something along the lines of "It used to kick ass, but it's gotten all tired and commercial." The fact is - Hot Topic has always been a (tired and) commercial enterprise, existing in malls across the country, and catering to the 16-year-old punk of all ages. If you're now finding Hot Topic to be tired and commercial, it isn't because the store changed. It's because YOU changed.

JUB is what it's always been, more or less. If something changed, 9, it's likely you. You've been here often enough and seen enough that it eventually looks boring and overly familiar. It's certainly happened to me. And when it does, I don't blame JUB. I just assume I've seen enough for now. And I step away. Sometimes for a couple days. Sometimes, like this last time, for several months. I don't delete my account or go out in a blaze of glory - I'm not interested in that. I'm aware that I'll probably give it another go at some point, and if I decide I'm interested again, I'll start posting again.

Lex

This.

Maybe it just isn't as much fun for you with the swing back to political liberalism and only having a Republican party trainwreck to watch these days.

Hard to say.

I find that the boards are as much fun as ever, but with travelling and now the onset of gardening season.....not as much time to piss away these days.

Maybe there wouldn't be as many train wrecks

if you watched where you were pissing and tried

positive posting?...just a conservative point of view.

Let us know how your garden grows.

I don't find JUB to be boring at all. I haven't been a member quite as long as some others here, but I still enjoy the site quite a bit. I agree that those who may be growing tired of the site are doing so because they, themselves, are changing, not necessarily the quality or relevance of site. It's completely natural, really. None of our lives really stay completely static. Interests grow, change, dissipate and may grow again.

This sums up how I feel on this matter......

Jos, did you read about you in leftovers?

Are you not a reborn Jubber.

I detect hints of my old bud who lived in an igloo

then moved to the Canadian Coast got posting cancer

and died. I still miss him and davy to.

And I predict that JUB won't be over but

ULOM will get over and play the old

kitschy and glow with Mitchy the schmo.

Pictures or I tell everyone it happened.

Well, it's like Dr. Phil always says:

"If all you're doin' is throwing bird seed behind the barn door every night then you can't expect to be picking daises on Christmas morning."

Words to live by...

NOC...Think about it..We're the only Group of people that Understand "Gays" & "Straights"...We get them, We Like them, We Fuck them really Good and We Love them...But they HATE our Guts........

So yeah...The Massive wave of Registered "Bisexuals" that began on JUB 2yrs ago was ONLY the Beginning...We are the Leaders...We are the Future of JUB...I thought that was Common knowledge.....Hello somebody...:p..

As I've said for decades, in the future everyone will be bisexual... (!)

Was that the doctor or sex doctor who helped out in Health and Well Being?

No, the guy I was referring to was a player, quick with puns and jokes

and entertaining. Had his serious side but generally was just a fun man

to know. First met him when he lived in the 'outback' of Canada, damn near

North Pole conditions by his account. Smart guy, Moved to the Big City on

the Canadian Coast and faded away:(:(:(

Hey, I still *heart* JUB... ..|

My opening post in this thread was prompted, initially, by visits to Fun & Games. It seemed to me that the "fizz" was gone there. Posts to even the most popular games seemed to be going unanswered for hours, even days. I'm sure that the guys there are bored with some of the games, some newer members maybe haven't discovered that place yet, warmer weather is beckoning, etc. etc..As for the rest of JUB, I still find myself dropping in almost daily. Maybe not sticking around as much as I used to. And, as others have pointed out, it can seem repetitive to anyone who has been a member for years and years. At least, it seems so to me.

One thing that's changed in my behavior is that I go to the porn galleries more, while in the past I almost never did. The forums were a bigger draw than the porn. Today, not so much...

THe big thing with Fun & games, there are only a few regulars there anymore, the rest have gone away from Jub. THe games are still fun but many people don't go there as much as the others one.
As for the rest of JUB, I left for a while because it was nothing but drama but that seems to have settled down.
The only difference is during that period many others surely left as well..I don't htink many of them have come back.

The porn star Jasun, why he isn't posting ?

good post on this earlier by the user almondmilk (or something like that, I probably got it wrong) - also Jasun just needed to manage his priorities and activities, because he was keeping himself busier than even he could deal with all that well. I think more of us than not, deal with such a thing at least once in our lifetimes (in the long term, rather than something temporary).

Alley was ever so much more fun before he got 'partnered'

I suspect his needs and priorities have undergone a serious

series of modifications. Sad, but, perhaps it is his best days

that are behind him.

I prefer to think that this is so NOT true...that he's only now starting to experience his best days. He has somebody, and he's moved to a place which is more in tune with people of this sexuality. His best days, as they just get better, can be so involved and busy that maybe JUB just gets crowded out. In other words, there's no guarantee that his "best days" necessarily mean that he gets more involved in JUB rather than less, nor that he necessarily should.

I miss his posts big time, and his last-year-started relationship seems like something that can inspire us all.

Maybe not sticking around as much as I used to. And, as others have pointed out, it can seem repetitive to anyone who has been a member for years and years. At least, it seems so to me.

All of us joined JUB for a simple reason...because we liked it here when we found the site. Nearly all of us maintain some "blank slate" properties even into old age, we have evolving tastes and activities, etc. For some, JUB may not be as good a "fit" as when that person originally joined, and that doesn't mean that the site necessarily got any better or worse. Our first impressions of something new tend to be what imprints on us to some degree, and for better or worse the entire JUB experience does evolve and change. (Unlike NoC, my frequency of going to the porno and galleries - almost never - hasn't changed or wavered in more than five years.)

I remember having to backtrack through pages to find updates to posts on one of my older accounts (circa 2005 or 2006 iirc). I kinda like it this way being able to catch up more easily but I can understand the fondness for the older days.

I remember that as well, back in the 2006 and 2007 era. Even in CE & P, the first fifty threads often used to be all dated within a 24 hour period, and now the same headcount of the fifty most recent threads can often go back a week or two. In HT there were usually about 100 new threads being created every day, now it's more like perhaps 35 or 40.

Somebody posted that in the rankings we're up to something like 333 or thereabouts. Of course one must realize that the 332 above us, will include some sites which are nearly entirely inactive, or have fallen off remarkably, and all sorts of sites will eventually pass those nearly-dormant sites. I think that indeed JUB has trailed off its activity, and I've long noticed what Sharkell said, but JUB hasn't trailed off nearly as quickly as some other websites, and this is still a vibrant community. I hope it stays this way!

I don't know how it can be considered "dead" or anything near that. The site is still very active.

Did those of you who think it's changed ever consider that the reason why it might not feel the same to you anymore is because you've been posting here for 5 plus years? I mean, nothing is going to seem as interesting and fun as when you first started using it. Especially after that long of a time.

Anyway, the most important thing is that I'm still here. That's all that really matters at the end of the day.

^ As he said. OK, maybe not the last part...:p...but we're ALL part of this community, and validly so, including the guy who is directly on top of me here. (Does that make Sultan the top, and me the bottom? LOL)

Yes definitely he says it well. After years, almost ANY concept becomes repetitive. It's all part of human nature. Over the years, threads often become a sense of deja vu, the topics do tend to recycle every so often.

But that's a good thing, because there are always new people walking through here, and it can be hard to find a thread that's sunk to Page 317. Sometimes a thread will bring up something the reader didn't even realize he/she had a need for, and it's a rehash of a topic that made the rounds 17 months ago. It's all good.

Again we seem to not be on the same page. Same story, different page.

Regarding Alley...I am delighted for him and want him to have a wonderful
life, life experience or whatever. My post was a bit tongue in cheek. The
intent was to convey that JUB wasn't dying like trees and plants and the
flowers. They are constantly being reborn. The cross-pollination (newbies
and life changes of the members) put a different, not better or worse face on
the whole.

If I had a bitch about JUB it would be that some people are either combative,
thin skinned or looking for someone to stub their toe. Yes, I find myself fitting
in that mold at times...and dislike myself for it. Probably why I joke about
almost everything.

Still have some old friends here and even a couple of new ones...but the
writing is on the wall and when I say good bye JUB it will be with a hug and
a kiss and a warm spot in my memory for a place that has an awesome
job and the members to do it.

Yeah I think it was Jayhew who I'm talking about. He wanted the Ex-JUB member to be a cook for his restaurant, and wanted him to move, and wanted me to move there as well. It hit the BF real hard when Jerry died.

Thank you for the clarification, Lefty. Actually, my post was a way of helping assure your intentions were clear (as I really DID know your hopes about Alley), and I used that "correction" more as an emphasis that indeed I hope that Alley's life in FtL is going as well as I **think** it is.

I hope that the "writing...on the wall" for you is a LONG time away yet. I know that is true for me - I became a lifetime supporter for a reason. I agree this is an awesome site...I embraced this place within four days of having my own computer, and I've never since plunged fully into any other social site at all (not even Facebook, though I'm on it).

i think the best years of JUB are behind. There seem to be a lot of members who dont get on anymore. There are only so many topics you can talk about until it starts sounding repetitive.
Not only that but people are being forced to either agree with the topic at hand or just shut the hell up because disagreeing is "negative". it's like what the fuck, just because i disagree means i'm being negative. psshhh shyte.
Also, OOooo don't dare to say something is wrong to do because they will call you not only negative but be called the moral police.
Like it was stated before, people are being scared off the site. JUB is about discussion, and people get penalized for being objective.
And in the political forum, im sorry but they are a bunch of stuck up dicks, they won't acknowledge you and when you comment on something, automatically someone says, "what do you know? you know nothing". it's like who da fuck are you to tell me if my comment is wrong? they some stuck up muthafukas.
OOOoooo and the moderators is somewhat of a problem too. You would think the moderators are old, fat, and jolly like Santa Claus, but they are strict, boring, and motherly like mother teresa... no offense.

I hate everything and everyone, this place is flaming troll hole. No offense.... :)
