The man on the street schtick is going to get really old really fast. It isn't real journalism.

And he definitely can't carry off the gravitas of reminding everyone to 'just get along'.

It is just so much gaslighting and anodyne platitudes being pushed by the oligarchs now because they may feel there is a real threat to them in the air.

So it is clear that Ellisons are determined to make the network a FAUX rival...with FAUX pulling about 2.65 million and down in the key demographics. Eventually Weiss and Dokoupil can deliver similare results.

I agree. I watched a lot of coverage of Gaza on Al Jazeera. Many of their journalists died to produce that coverage and their commitment to exposing the cruelty being inflicted on civilians and medical workers in Gaza is what journalists should be doing.

Biased, perhaps. But lefist?

It was pretty jarring to watch Fox News and MSNBC last year- the overly made-up talking heads sitting in nice clean studios in downtown Manhattan while real journalists were wearing helmets and protective vests while bombs were exploding around them.

Also, they have Fox & Friends to the right of OAN? Maybe what is missing is a third dimension measuring "batshit crazy stuff?".

“He said, ‘Make sure you guys don’t cut the tape, make sure the interview is out in full,’” Ms. Leavitt said in an even tone, according to a recording of the exchange obtained by The New York Times.

“Yeah, we’re doing it, yeah,” Mr. Dokoupil responded.

Ms. Leavitt replied: “He said, ‘If it’s not out in full, we’ll sue your ass off.’”...

Ms. Leavitt, reached for comment, said: “The American people deserve to watch President Trump’s full interviews, unedited, no cuts. And guess what? The interview ran in full.”

Not long ago, the notion of a White House press secretary’s casually threatening a lawsuit if a journalist does not obey her orders would be shocking.

...In the audio recording from Tuesday, the CBS group seemed surprised by Ms. Leavitt’s comment — “Oh, great, OK!” Kim Harvey, the “CBS Evening News” executive producer, replied — and Mr. Dokoupil quickly turned to humor. “He always says that!” he told Ms. Leavitt in a light tone, referring to Mr. Trump, who indeed urges reporters to publish his interviews in full.

Looking for News Nation on here, though I have no access. But I was also surprised to se al-Jazeera on the left, which I always thought of as a pretty reliable news source (though that almost seems paradoxical - and I also only rarely have access to that either).

It will be interesting to see where 60 Minutes lands in the near future. That show has been a staple of my viewing since it debuted in 1968, even including the middle 1970s when I was barely watching any TV. The last couple times I've seen it, it's been entirely defanged, and being turned into propaganda.

I'm not sure why she didn't confront Jennings and/or CNN face-to-face, instead of on Substack.

There's some strange stuff going on in Kentucky. Jennings was rumored to be in the running to take over McConnell's seat when he retires.

Then Andy Barr, US House Rep for KY-6 announced he's going to run. This was a little bit of a surprise, although Barr is an old-money Kentuckian from Lexington who interned in McConnell's office and Barr has Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation connections.

Even stranger, Barr's long-time campaign aide, Tatum Dale (a woman), who was managing his Senate campaign "died unexpectedly" on Christmas last month. The press was very circumspect about detailing the cause of death. This is particularly odd since Barr's wife also died unexpectedly at home in 2020 at age 39.

I remembered this because OAN, ever the source of accurate news, reported that Congressman Andy Beshear made the announcement. Andy Beshear is the Democratic governor of Kentucky. Andy Barr is the Congressman whose aide died.

And another weird coincidence, the person who will be taking over Barr's campaign works for Scott Jenning's consulting firm. Lots of insider trading in Kentucky.

Scott Jennings is one of the main reasons I don't watch CNN much anymore. As soon I see Scott Jennings, David Urban, Shermichael Singleton, or one of those other republican mouthpieces on the panel, I know I'm going to be lied to, and I know CNN will refuse to confront the lies. But Jennings is the most arrogant, smug, prick they have on. Fuck him and fuck CNN. They betrayed me.

That changed as CNN started to chase the MAGAt demo and CNN ceased to rein in the liars and performance artistes from the right.

Remember a few years back when there was an evening show on CNN called "Crossfire" and Jon Stewart did an appearance on the show and said that shows like Crossfire were the problem? Shortly, thereafter CNN canceled the show.

Fast forward to 2026 and CNN's evening lineup is now Crossfire on steroids. It's just a bunch of paid political hacks shouting at each other. It's all party talking points and propaganda and has nothing- nothing at all- to do with news.

CNN is now part of the problem. It is no wonder their ratings and the traffic to their website have been in decline. It's like everything bad about Fox's evening lineup and everything awful about reality television shows like The Housewives.

CNN thinks that can have it both ways.

Attract the hyper partisan crowd from both extremes and the hate watchers in between their actual dismal news coverage.

During the Iraq war, when CNN gave itself over to being a propaganda outlet for the DoD...we switched over to BBC World. And when we tried going back to CNN...even with Christiane Amanpour...we gave up.
