Is Net Neutrality Coming To An End in the USA? Find out December 14th, 2017

^ Legalised censorship. And just think of the reaction to China and North Korea blocking the internet.

The more politicized everything becomes the less faith I have that the right thing will be done. Once upon a time when Americans didn't like something they protested, they boycotted, they made their voices heard. Now there are so many distractions, like finding out what brand of toilet paper Kim Kardashian wipes her ass with, and taking 16,000,000 selfies a day that it seems most Americans just don't have the time (or the will) to inform themselves on these issues let alone participate in the process so big corps are always gonna get their way until it's too late.

For all the warning we've had, and this is ample time for a formidable response from the American public, I don't see as many people concerned about this as there should be. Naturally, in the modern American tradition, they're going to wait until AFTER this shit happens to bitch and moan and cry and wonder why nobody warned them.

Thanks to johaninsc for this. It is a situation I hadn't even considered:

I would have expected an Internet Freedom March of 5 to 10 million people to be in the works, by now. Censorship and "ownership" of the internet by Big Money is one of the most horrific things that can ever happen in the United States, as "controversial" content can be censored at will.

If things degenerate to the extreme, with dissidents being locked up in concentration camps everywhere, the large ownership of guns may be the only thing that can hope to save us.

I warned about this internet-thing before the election (perhaps even in late 2015), saying that the election of a Republican president would very possibly result in destruction of the internet, precisely because the composition of FCC Commissioners becomes 3-2 in favor of the President's political party. No doubt websites such as this one, Daily Kos, MSNBC, etc. will be among the first ones to be taken down in enough localities that they have trouble surviving, even if they aren't entirely censored.

Would this also allow Google, etc. to censor controversy?

Elections have consequences.

Oh, but her emails and Benghazi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you are missing is that it is the democrats actively trying to control content on the internet. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/oct/24/fec-democrat-pushes-controls-internet-political-sp/
I challenge you to find s Republican trying to control content.

How about all of them who are for getting rid of net neutrality? Net Neutrality is in place so corporations like Comcast can't control what you see and do, it got put in place because of things like Comcast throttling speeds on Netflix because it was competition. This is the kind of shit that would happen that a lot of Republicans want.

Either way, stop playing party fucking Politics all the time because this will fuck everyone if Net Neutrality is killed. Get over yourself.

We have more to fear from government control of content than corporations.

We might believe you if the article wasn't over 3 years old.

I would think you would know how to read the fine print by now.

The intent has not changed. It will not happen with a Republican in the Whitehouse, but someday the problem will return.

How is it going to be for small businesses which can't afford to get onto the 'fast track'? The big companies are going to benefit and the small businesses are going to lose out. Lost business equals lost jobs.

Ultimately, this will not be good for the economy, and the whole thing will wash over into Canada.

Were you not afraid when Trump and his team began deleting official page after official page from government website after government website? When you talk about government control, look at your own so-called president and then tell us that what he did was not 'control'.

Eliminating regulations is eliminating or reducing control. Duh.

Read this in the local paper over the weekend:
As the Federal Communications Commission prepares to dismantle its net neutrality rules for internet providers, a mounting backlash from agency critics is zeroing in on what they say are thousands of fake or automated comments submitted to the FCC that unfairly skewed the policymaking process.
Full article:
Denver Post - Net neutrality process “corrupted” by fake comments
I don't think anyone should be surprised by such happening...

Republicans have opposed the government take over, l.e. mandated neutrality, all along. Any alleged fake comments, whoever faked them, are irrelevant. We also opposed Obama’s give away of the internet, and the FEC’s attempt to limit conservative political content.

Why do you always defend all of the horrible things the Republicans do to Americans and somehow try to make us think that Obama is responsible?
