Isaiah Washington Fired from Grey's!

The world's gone mad yet another african american actor off screen and probably now hated he may never work again. I hope everyone iinvolved is proud wonder what would have happened had a white actor used the n word????
My guess is that he would have been fired immediately, or if not immediately, then after his contract was up whether he had apologized or not. The public feels that racism is less tolerable than homophobia (which is great for minorities, though hardly good news for LGBTs) and my guess is that a racist slur would have made that actor a social pariah for the rest of his or her career.

LOL LOL...

God your posts are always funny... But you are absolutely 100% INCORRECT. Talk to anyone who actually has some "sense" and they will tell you what word is more offensive.. even if that person isn't part of that race. The "N" just has more history to it.. it comes from a very very sick past.
Are you just trying to be ignorant? Where exactly do you get the idea that one word is worse than the other? Can you even prove that 'nigger' has a longer history than 'faggot'? 'Faggot' has been around for a long time, ever since they used to burn witches at the stake, which if YOU really want to start measuring history, is from a time period older than when the slave trade brought Africans to the United States.

Just because you refuse to see outside of one perspective in your life you call everyone else a racist and a liar and an idiot for saying that 'faggot' is just as bad as 'nigger' because you only felt the hatred that came from the word 'nigger', not the word 'faggot'.

To me, they are equally offensive and if ever used in such a manner against someone else would warrant equivalent punishment. No, I'm not a black man, I'm an asian one and I experience racism, too. And things have happened against Asian Americans that have been publicized that I didn't see some African Americans care about in the least.

Luckily, there are a good number of African Americans who aren't like you, who recognize that words that stem from hatred no matter their history are unacceptable. There are African Americans who aren't consumed about making sure that people believe that their struggle is the most difficult and the most terrible to weather, and who instead care about ensuring that everyone's struggle is recognized and who work toward ending prejudice anywhere.

Unfortunately, there are also people like you, who apparently only care about prejudice when it comes to racism against African Americans and no one else. People like you argue that prejudice and hatred against gay men and other minorities is less important and okay so long as no rights against African Americans are infriged upon.

'Faggot' has a long and painful history. Gay men were thrown into the sea in ancient times. They were stoned to death, burned, tortured, and mutilated. They have had to live in fear, in hiding, always concerned that if anyone ever knew that they were gay that they would lose their families, friends, homes, rights, and safety. And we're not just talking about now. We're talking about since the time of the Bible. Faggot came about during the times of witch trials. Why does 'faggot' originally mean 'a bundle of sticks used for kindling'? Because gay men were burned alive at the stake.

Yet despite it's history, even one that may be older than the etymology of the slur 'nigger', I don't see it as 'worse' than 'nigger'. I find both inexcusably hateful words that no one has any right to offensively throw at anyone else.

Thank God not all African Americans and civil rights activisits are as pig-headed and ignorant as you. You talk to anyone with "sense" and you'll find that they'll tell you that both are offensive and completely unacceptable. Anyone who thinks this some contest to see who's having the harder time is an idiot.

And everything else you wrote in that post was laughable and unbelievably ignorant. Hardly worth a response. Truly the pot calling the kettle black.

You my friend are racist.

BTW you are NOT black so you will never understand the "black struggle" in this country..

Also you can NEVER compare the N word to faggot.. too much history involved with the N word.

WHAT?!?!?! You do know that homosexuals have been shunned, killed, murdered, and oppressed for at least one millennium(more than that actually) before Africans were taken out of Africa against their will.
Don't bring up history, when you have no idea what the real history is.

Have you ever been to Africa? I lived in Kenya for a year and a half. They work 5000 times harder than most African Americans in this country do and make a whole hell of a lot less money. Do you have any idea what most black Africans think about African Americans? I can't tell you how many times I heard massive tirades about how African Americans are spoiled rotten lazy idiots who have no idea what they have, and after living in Kenya, I agree 100%

By they way, before you chastise me and call me white. I'm Latino, so I am part of a minority, and my grandmother was a black Cuban, so don't give me any crap about not being able to understand the scenario. I obviously seem to understand it better than you.

He acted like a bigot and he deserves everything he gets. I'm glad he got his ass fired. It's simply not okay. And if one of the cast had referred to Washington as the N word they would have been put out to pasture. End of story.

But, in the risk of being a year behind everyone else, what EXACTLY happened? I heard Dempsey challenged Washington for calling Knight a fag (for being late or something), but at the same time have heard a few other stories. Has anyone actually heard the definitive?

Before this thread gets mega offensive, we just have to understand that no matter what "category" you're in, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Blacks feel they have it worse than gays because Blacks can't hide their skin color while gays can hide their orientation. Gays feel they have it worse off than Blacks because racism is unacceptable while homophobia is still encouraged.

As a black homosexual in the United States of America, I live in two worlds at once -- and neither of them are a walk in the park in present day society. I've experienced racism and I've experienced homophobia and both forms of hatred, ignorance and rejection are equally painful. And I hate when blacks act like it somehow hurts less to be called a faggot than it is to be called any kind of racial slur. Like, somehow, when you're hated for your sexual orientation, it's not as bad as being hated for the color of your skin.

Both are shallow forms of ignorance and hatred and both dehumanize a person no matter what.

Now... I'm off to look at some interracial gay porn to make myself feel better.

I really don't get why race is even being brought up in this discussion.

Perhaps the better or worse pejoratives are a result of ignorance on the part of bigots of all colors.
Many nut cases beleive our sexuality can be changed if we want it badly enogh; whereas our race can't be voluntarily changed (excepting Michael Jackson).

You my friend are racist.
Also you can NEVER compare the N word to faggot.. too much history involved with the N word.

WRONG! Both words are derogatory that degrade a group of individuals. As a black bisexual male, I would be offended if either word was used. I don't care what the context of the situation, you don't use either of those fuckin' words, PERIOD.

The black community is one of the most homophobic factions on this planet, and Isaiah Washington is clearly a product of that mentality. If someone like Don Imus can get fired for using the term "nappy-headed ho" (more of a sexist statement than a racist one, in my opinion, especially since it's the black community that coined the term "nappy-headed"), then a black man should be dealt with in kind for using a term that is just as offensive to the gay community as the term "nigger" is to the black community.

I am so sick and tired of the black community crying "racism" every time they don't get their way, yet they see nothing wrong whatsoever with their own bigotry. My hope is that this incident will compel a lot of blacks to look themselves in the mirror and confront their own hypocrisy.

What I find most tragically ironic about all of this is that the black community's homophobia is a product of the Judeo-Christian religious beliefs adopted by their ancestors from the plantation owners who brought them here as slaves!

Don't group all black people as homophobes. What you said is borderline racist, so I would advise you to think twice before run off at the mouth without merit.

The black people that are homophobes don't speak for me whatsoever. I personally don't associate with those type of folks, regardless of their phenotype (skin color). Honestly, don't understand the mentality of the how the oppressed can become the oppessors but that is whole nother conversation.

You should consider those individuals who say it as assholes and stop categorizing all black people as homophobes.

BTW, black folks aren't the only ones that look down upon homosexual behavior. I know for a fact, since I am of some Latin heritage, that the Latin community does the very same thing. However, they are not as vocal about it.

Homophobia is a worldwide thing that is found in all communities basically, so don't ostracize just black folks.

And btw, black people exist all over the rest of America (THE CONTINENT), and they are nowhere as touchy as African-Americans.(There has been integration of races over there).

True, but Lugus did you say you are from Panama? A nation with a huge Afro-Latino population, so you should know that all black don't think all alike. You made yourself seem as if you think all black people think as such when in reality we don't.

Homophobia should not be tolerated from anybody... Good ridance I say. :=D:

That I do agree with. :=D:

Amen, Tavares! PREACH! I am found this to be 110% true about how gays and blacks view one another. :=D:

Wow, I just read through this whole thread....and some of the comments here are truly mindblowing.

tavares,

This was put so well, and was so vulnerable and human for you to share in this manner. I respect you for sharing this and putting yourself out there. (*8*)

That's what happen when you have a big mouth and can't keep it shut.

And freedom of speech, my ass!!!. You can't go on in life making offensive statements about other's people sexuality. That's not what freedom of speech is all about.

You don't have to reveal your SEXUALITY... but you can't hide your skin color :D

Actually I have not.. and to be quite honest with you. I could careless what they think of African Americans in this country.

By they way, before you chastise me and call me white. I'm Latino, so I am part of a minority, and my grandmother was a black Cuban, so don't give me any crap about not being able to understand the scenario. I obviously seem to understand it better than you.

Nope you don't understand...Blacks will always have it harder than any other race in this country and the world. THAT IS FACT.

...Nope you don't understand...Blacks will always have it harder than any other race in this country and the world. THAT IS FACT.

Millions of Jews were slaughtered in the Holocaust and there are many millions of other victims of ethnic cleansing and other atrocities around the world. My guess is that they probably had it harder. Plus not all blacks in the US have a hard time. Certainly not most black actors in recurring television roles.

Isaih Washington wasn't fired because his race has it harder than others. He was fired because, by all accounts, he was a jackass on set in an industry world where actors (whatever their skin color) are two a penny.

Now out of work actors, they really do have it hard.

Nope you don't understand...Blacks will always have it harder than any other race in this country and the world. THAT IS FACT.

By what standard? Ignoring Native Americans and Jews, you still have the racial genocides in Europe, white farmers in Africa, Aborigines in Australia, and Gypsies in Europe, all of whom are restricted in what licenses that they can obtain, education that they can pursue, and even where they can travel.

Meanwhile, black Americans can still argue discrimination if they don't get a job for which they aren't qualified, can sue family businesses for not being black, and if a lower income black student has to pay more than half of their tuition and books they just aren't trying (in scholarships and grants as opposed to loans). Heck, you can even define people as being non-black (as was done to Obama). For that matter, they can be racist and homophobe, and that's acceptable.

I'm really starting to believe that if black Americans stopped complaining about their lot in life, they would realize that the fight is over and they can do anything that they want...

Methinks you really are Al sharpton, and not just someone with his pic in their avatar. Only Al would be pretentious enough to say something so insolent without considering the other minorities in this county who sacrificed their lives to build this country. To partially quote Huey from the boondocks Al It seems as if your entire generation is trying to take credit for what happened to some people.

No, I just think he wants Blacks to have the hardest time of any race ever. He's probably pro-"passing", too. Way to hold African Americans back, Pices...

What is with this obsession with "No, I'm more oppressed than you!" lol
