Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

I must protest to the use of the word "whore" I find it offensive. Can we please say "pleasure technician"?

Nah, if people say i'm a whore often enough, that word "whore" will become a status symbol.
I'm a whore at the moment. :)

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

In the UK, prostitution is technically legal. It's activities such as soliciting and brothel-keeping which are not.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

Many gainfully employed persons, sole proprietors and independent contractors, pay Social Security, Federal, State and local taxes using their SS number as a tax ID.

And, as you well know, many demand cash transactions in order to lie about their income, a luxury minimum wage employees are not afforded.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

When prostitution is legalized/decriminalized it basically completely legalizes sex trafficking, and women, men, and kids get hurt and forced into being prostitutes even more...so no I do not think it should be legal or decriminalized.

No, it doesn't. Trafficking is slavery, legalizing has nothing to do with forcing anyone to do anything, so it wouldn't be doing this at all.

Whore is, by definition, a derogatory synonym of prostitute. But that implies prostitute is held in some higher regard, which it is not.

"Sex worker" has never caught on in this country, nor in many countries even in Europe.

We can call them Bing Cherries if you like, but the stigma isn't going to be melting away any time soon, regardless of how PC a gay message board may try to be.

I'm categorically not in favor of prostitution, but I have had close friends in the past who were prostitutes, and I did not shun them in any way. To the contrary, I helped as a friend.

My great grandmother often referred to my mother as a whore, which didn't change my impression of my mother for better or ill. My mother took a morbid pleasure in trying to shock people and unsurprisingly, they were shocked. It wasn't a very impressive stunt.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

Yes it should be legal, but regulated, preferably by me.

I think the fallacy surrounding the legalization of prostitution is that the illegal aspects surrounding it will go away. They won't. Hard drug addicts will still turn to it as an alternative to actual labor, and there will remain a significant portion of the population that will keep it off the record and underground.

What it will accomplish is less bother with the courts and needless arrest of prostitutes which works and even greater hardship on everyone involved.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

By the way,
i am "some sort" of a prostitute but without sex LOL

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

And here I thought you might pick some more salacious title.

Whoremaster General?

Assmaster?

We could do it together.

I don't think it is going to make the illegal stuff attached to it go away completely, I just don't find prostitution morally wrong and I used to. If someone is comfortable enough with themselves to be able to sell their body, I find it totally fine. The legal stuff is all a bonus.

I'd be honored, and I have already proven I can do a Southern accent better than Olympia Dukakis.

I think I've left my beliefs about it being immoral behind, but more in a first-person sense.

When it's a part of some general degradation that drags children, parents, or others along in the wake, I'm not so sure that it doesn't touch on morality then. But that's really a bigger issue than prostitution itself.

And I also think we find it too easy to champion libertine causes when it's not a loved one. I don't know anyone who wants his daughter or son to be a prostitute, and few who would want a sibling to be. That has to say something. It's not the same as any other profession, not matter how much debates try to equate it to realtors, bankers, actors, etc.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

I am sure the idea of prostitution bothers a lot of people, especially the ones who feel sex should only be shared with the one you love or married to, especially when you attach a price point to it. I'd probably feel weird knowing a family member did it legally, but it's not something I'd judge them on if they were truly comfortable with and not doing it to making ends meet and feeling uncomfortable about it.

It isn't the same as other occupations at all, the problem lies where it doesn't lend its "skills" to any other occupation if some one were looking to get out of it, which I would imagine people would considering people get tired of "regular" jobs as well.

I guess another issue would be about people not wanting to get into to it because of the judgmental attitudes towards it as well, but I guess that is no different then other occupations people are judgmental about.

Re: Should prostitution be illegal?

I find many things morally wrong, so I don't do them. If prostitution was legal no one would pay for sex with me and I wouldn't pay for sex with others.
Does this mean that my standard(s) for living my life should be imposed on others?

The only good argument for prostitution being illegal would be "the greatest good for the greatest number", legalized sex for money would encourage people to indulge and this could do more damage to the family unit. Stats show that children from broken homes have more problems in life than those who have mom and dad at home.

Also as I pointed out earlier it would encourage the young adults to go after the easy dollar, then when they got to old to be paid for sex they would have no skill set to make a living and be a burden on society.

In principle a person should have a right to sell their body for sex, just as some sell their brain for other tasks, in practicality it would become a problem down the road.
