Lockdown at the US Capitol

There's two thing that are troublesome about the Ray Epps example: it's scape-goating/deflection and it's using social media for terrorizing a private citizen. Both are Trump tactics that are being adopted by other groups. It's normalized.

When we saw this happen to Kathy Griffin back in May, 2017, it was a template. Mr Epps is not innocent- he was a Trumper and he was at the insurrection. But to go from a Trumper to being accused of inciting the whole riot in order to hide and distract from Trump's misdeeds? Sheesh.

I'm just waiting for someone to connect Epps to the Georgia Guidestones.

I thought Days of Distraction were going to end on 20-Jan-2021. The distractions continue.

This is also why I've softened my criticism of people who aren't marching with us or deeply entrenched in politics. It's dangerous! Social media companies and da innanetz aren't even trying to take responsibility for their role in the harassment and death threats or the ease with which you can find somebody's home address and broadcast it to the masses. Months later when they finally catch on to what's going on the damage is done. But say something unsavory about the government and you're banned that night.

This entire century is the worst trial-run in history. Everything we're doing, we're doing wrong. 1,000 years from now if the planet and we still exist, this time period is gonna fall under the "don't" list.

Pretty. Much. This.

Right-wing media is sometimes referred to as "Earth 2" by critics. It is a very strange place... with "alternative facts", disinformation and smoke screens.

I don't think it even qualifies as "2"; it's farther out than that -- or if it is, right-wing social media forums are "Earth 3".

In grad school I thought I was straining my brain by trying to wrap my mind around some of the ancient literary types that bear no resemblance to anything we have today, but the last few weeks haunting a few right-wing sites has bee an even bigger stretch. Things like "Russia is secretly still communist and is funding the Democrat (sic) National Committee" and "Putin is run by the 'Deep State' and given orders to do things that make Biden look good" and "Hunter Biden learned from the communists and trained the antifa terrorists" are bandied about as accepted truths! A recent bizarre idea on one site was that since Trump was 'defeated' by Biden he can run again and stay for two terms because the Twenty-Second Amendment really means "two terms in a row" rather than two total. Another is that the only thing wrong with the events of 6 January was that the crowd wasn't organized by platoons that had elected their officers. These people believe things that are almost farther from reality than anything the Kremlin media toss out like clockwork!

I take comfort from the minority who except for one or two issues would be voting for those who fight for universal health care, expanded Social Security, increasing the minimum Social Security payment, restoring the tax rates from before Reagan, and repairing the nation's infrastructure.

I read Ray Epps story a week ago. More republicans cannibalizing their own. Leaving little if any doubt that there's no hope of ever breaching through their walls to reason with them.

It's because they personally are 110% certain they can't be wrong -- which means that someone must have fooled them! And of course that someone can't possibly be one of their own, so it must have been a "false flag operation" run by (who else?) the "deep state".

I object to the "we", unless you want to argue that the powers-that-be have so screwed up the system that we peons have no right choices available. That's what I was trying to get across to another JUBber recently, that if you turn out to march for something sponsored by either major party you're engaging in perpetuating the system... which is wrong.

The depth of the situation is somewhat revealed by something both of the big two parties are united on: making sure no other party can get in on the game, at last not nationally; though there are many hundreds of minor party people elected to local and even state offices, neither the right- nor the left-wing media actually admit that there might be another solution.

Back to the "we"... the current situation reminds me of one that one of my philosophy professors described when he and his family were facing the mess in Eastern Europe in WWII: on the one side the Nazis insisted that they were the force of righteousness while on the other the Soviets insisted that no, it was they who were the angels, and there were only three choices: evil, evil, or flight. The trouble is that his family could flee westward and most of them managed to make it to the United States, but where can we flee in these days? If we can't flee, then we're stuck with just the first two of his family's choices: evil, or evil.

Choosing the side the neo nazis are on is a huge blow to credibility. The only allowances I make are for friends who are only casually into politics that don't know what's going on outside of whatever the day's reigning headline is. For people who are knee-deep in it and watching everything happening and still going "Yeah, republican." I'm skeptical, to say the least.

What's democratic evil? Equal rights for LGBT? Not hating black people? Letting women make their own choices? As far as I can tell they're only guilty of the usual US politician sins-- insider trading and nepotism. What are democrats doing that's tantamount to the violence and racial resentment on the right? I've asked that question to many a republican and the closest I get to an answer that makes sense is "BLM burnt cities to the ground" which would be an apt comparison except for the fact that it's categorically false. It's backwash of 1900s racist propaganda about "Those big scary violent negroes." Oh no they burnt a few trash cans and broke some windows, send em to guantanemo!

I live not too far from Portland, Oregon, where antifa activists attempted murder by arson against federal agents. They identified as Democrats, so yeah, there's violence from Democrats as bad as anything from the right. And to make it worse, Democrats keep trying as hard as they can to make it impossible for ordinary people to defend themselves against violence.

Democrats may not hate black people by words, but they treat them like second-class citizens expected to do as they are told.

And in Congress, when Democrats have been in control, they have failed miserably at getting things passed that people actually want and that they supposedly believe in. They claimed to be about universal healthcare, but what they gave us was a sell-out to insurance companies via a system where government money buys medical insurance policies that they people they are bought for can't afford to use. They claim to believe in personal liberty, but when the "USA PATRIOT" Act comes up for re-approval they're right there re-authorizing it. They claim to care about illegal immigration but the best they can do is spend their efforts ridiculing Trump's idiocy instead of offering anything at all to improve the situation. And around the country prosecutors of the Democrat flavor fail consistently to prosecute criminal misuse of weapons, bargaining away those charges in plea deals and pursue other policies that result in violent criminals being released on little or even no bail, only to commit violent crimes including murder within just a few days of their release.

Neither of the big two parties supports the Constitution, only the parts they like, and neither is even close to being as interested in what will help ordinary people anywhere near as much as they care about what will make the wealthiest 0.05% of the population happy.

Most ironic of all is that Democrats oppose the Second Amendment's clear intent to allow the citizens to be armed against a tyrannical government when actual democrats are the ones who at this point in history who should be arming themselves; just as Republicans are no longer republican, Democrats are no longer democrats. Both are evil, and both are primarily interested in perpetuating their own power, not serving the people.

:rotflmao: "This one story of democratic terrorism means both parties are the same."

Does anyone ever fall for that? I'd love to see some hard data on terrorist attacks by democrats or the left. If the volume of incidents were equal, it would be reflected in the numbers. Where are the democrat-inspired mass shooters and hate groups rallying in support of democratic politicians? I keep hearing this bullshit rhetoric that "both are the same" but as an admittedly casual observer it seems the terrorism is almost totally on the right. Perpetuated to this very minute by conspiracies and racist fear-mongering about the great replacement of wypipo by 'coloreds and messicans.' (you can hear the disdain when republicans talk about these groups). we're halfway to the next election and the Trumpets are still screaming "stop the steal." more violence is coming and it's not gonna be from democrats.

And for what it's worth, as someone who would've been picking cotton if able-bodied and killed if sick or useless when the constitution was written i don't get that hard-on nationalists get so "dems don't honor the consutituion" is great news to me. it's a really expensive piece of tissue paper.

Wolf and Cucinelli's texts from Jan 5/6 are also missing.

They were senior Trumpists in Homeland Security.

Any questions?

A Donald Trump fan from Texas who attempted to storm the U.S. Capitol while armed with a gun was sentenced to more than 7 years in prison on Monday after a judge denied the Justice Department's request for a "terrorism enhancement" that would have resulted in a lengthier prison sentence.

Too bad.

This means that the terrorists are being 'normalized'.

The next time...they won't get prison sentences. They will get pardons and appointments.

I am starting to be glad that I only have a few decades left to see all this happen.

What's really bothersome is that there are apparently no objective criteria for who gets sentenced as a terrorist and who doesn't. Most who actually committed violence will probably get sentenced as terrorists, but that's -- as the judge noted -- not consistent.

I read through Judge Friedrich's reasoning and unfortunately, the sentence was in line with other people who were convicted. She was a member of the Sentencing Commission (along with Ketanji Brown Jackson), so I would expect that she would give a well-reasoned sentence.

The problem in Mr Reffitt's case was that he talked the big talk and he incited others but in the end, Reffitt didn't go into the Capitol building. This is the problem with "domestic terrorism"- there's no specific laws that give judges something to sentence people for being a terrorist until they do a terroristic act.

One thing that I don't get about the sentences for some of these insurrectionists is that the judges aren't sentencing them to psychotherapy. These guys were exhibitioning the behavior seen in religious cults and it's worrisome that there's nothing being done to reprogram them.

Also working in Mr Reffitt's favor is that there's no law which makes it illegal to be an awful person. If your own children are turning you in and testifying against you in court, you probably deserve to be locked away for a really long time.

The Defense Department wiped the phones of top departing DOD and Army officials at the end of the Trump administration, deleting any texts from key witnesses to events surrounding the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. American Oversight has the receipts.

It was an orchestrated coup and Trump had infected every branch of government.

And the Republicans in Congress were all up for it.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK AMERICA!???!!!

And yet half of you will vote Republican this fall.

It is like this in the US, and the other half is oblivious or in denial.

How Kash Patel rose from obscure Hill staffer to key operative in Trump’s battle with the intelligence community [WaPo Apr-2021]
...At the start of the Trump administration, Patel was senior counsel for Rep. Devin Nunes when the California Republican chaired the House Intelligence Committee in 2017 and 2018 ...In 2020, he was a senior adviser to acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell and his successor, John Ratcliffe, helping lead their efforts to remove senior career intelligence officers.

Patel’s most prominent role was his final job, as chief of staff for acting defense secretary Christopher C. Miller in the administration’s last two months. In that position, according to sources close to events, he challenged the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, and very nearly became acting director of the CIA himself...

Remember Bannon's plans to "dismantle the administrative state"?

After the election, the White House moved a bunch of their little operatives into positions in DoD. Part of that was likely connected to Flynn's plan for "martial law" and seizing voting machines. Don't be surprised if there's shredded documents and other things that have these operatives fingerprints all over them.

Devin Nunes and Kash Patel are now employed by Truth Social.

Hoping that the new season of TRE45ON will start with Liz Cheney reading Alex Jones and Roger Stone’s intimate text messages.

The Committee now apparently has them.

There likely will be a whole bunch of new invitations going out to individuals to re-appear or appear for the first time in front of the Committee.

I was just reading about how a jury handed $50 in damages against Jones. In the article it was mentioned that Jones' attorneys accidentally passed serious information about Jones' activities to the plaintiff's attorneys, and how that information got shared with the Jan 6 committee.

Long ago Jones was a good documentary maker. His transformation into conspiracy theorist advocate is an interesting story that boils down to the fact that there's more money to be made fooling people than in explaining the truth. From his courtroom behavior (the judge had to slap him down a couple of times) it seems he's moved into the stage where he believes his own crap -- it's looked that way for years but this just confirms it.

I just hope there's stuff in those messages that will lead to some of the ulta-right figures being indicted.

Actually, I don't think there will be subpoenas and I think the Jan6th Committee and DoJ now already have the record.

As the Sandy Hook lawyer explained...there was a point where they fell into his actual possession after Jones' lawyer failed to claim any privilege...as in...the lawyer could do whatever he wants and the judge made it clear that it was up to him and other law enforcement agencies or bodies to determine the disposition of the records.

When he said in court that there were intimate conversations in the record between Jones and Stone...it was clear that he was sending a signal to the DoJ and 1/6 committee and within 24 hours they had requested the records.
