Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Pretty amazing.

Great experience in the main stadium. Atmosphere was great. Had to eat in the biggest McDonalds (seating 1,500), service was excellent. Next visit to the park will be in the main stadium at night.

^ I was there to watch history in the making, it was very moving. Good luck to Oscar.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

What an AMAZING week of Olympic events..

The entire Women’s Gymnastics team is just talented beyond words. I am so Proud & Honored they represented The United States @ the London Games. With so much going on back here @ home their determination.

16yr old Gabrielle Douglas was on FIRE all week…When I learned she won the Gold @ the All-around event Thursday Morning I had to tune in Thursday night. Gabrielle’s ability to throw herself in the air as if she’s flying is unreal. To be so young she was confident and on-point with her routines. I can’t wait to see what she does in 2016…

Swimming Phenomena Michael Phelps is KING and long may he reign. I'm so thankful The Human Fish was born in The States…He claims he's gonna retire this year but we'll see what Mama Phelps has to say about that...

The Men’s Water polo event was pretty exciting to watch. It has to be very difficult using your whole body in the water while trying to score points against the other Team….It’s amazing what these Olympians put themselves through. They are Champions…

The Most INTENSE Game this year has got to be Men's Soccer. I watched Mexico take on Senegal yesterday and I sat on the edge of my Bed GLUED to the TV. All of the Olympians are bringing their A-Game to every event...

Now it’s time for the Majority favorite event Track & Field…

The Women are up first and we’ll see who’s gonna be the front runner for the title “Fastest Woman in the World”….

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

How can people watch this crap? Many gold medalists will be found to be cheating on drugs long after the games are over. Except for the track and field events most of the others are just silly. And people watch because it's the Olympics. If raking leaves was an event people would watch that too.

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

How can people watch this crap? ... And people watch because it's the Olympics.

We watch because, for the next four years, we're watching a lot of the same countries at war with each other.

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

I'm down in Maryland right now and the American coverage is terrible!!! They do not show anything that isn't of American interest. And there are like 7 commercials every 5 minutes. The coverage is so bad I just stopped watching. Even when there is no American winnings to report on, they show American winnings from previous Olympics. Holy Crap! Can you say propaganda?

Yep that sounds about right. Thank goodness for other sources. Aren't the commercials IRRITATING? Makes you want to make a list of things NEVER to buy or use.

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

I can tell you that I am watching NBCs coverage right now and I want to hang myself. The commentators fuckin SUCK. I wish they would shut up and let us watch without all the jibberish chatter...

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

It doesn't have to be good. It just has to get good ratings. And they're getting that, in spades. And in 18 months, when the winter olympics come back on, all the Americans will have forgotten how terrible the coverage was, and they'll watch in droves yet again.

I've enjoyed seeing some of the snarky comments about the coverage. "The Olympics should consider adding a sixth or seventh sport to the Olympic games" was one of my favorites.

My friend said on Facebook - "I love watching America destroy all the other countries every two years in the Olympics!" I responded, "I think that makes us like that guy in high school who only got good grades in gym."

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

The set-up of the Olympics means that it's all broadcast through their official channels. The difference is dependent on which network you watch through. In the UK the BBC shows no adverts as it's paid for via the licence fee of the people. Internationally you have to contend with adverts, though to a lesser extent than usual broadcasters if you watch through BBC America, etc.

Well - it looks like Australia is finally going getting a small leg up on the Gold medal table, thanks to our sailors. It has been a bit disappointing in that regard thus far - tho' there have been some very good performances. Lots of questions being asked here - especially as to whether the funding for sport in Australia is being spent in the most effective way.

Must say that it was nice to see Andy Murray win Gold in the tennis as well. Glad to see him finally break through - wouldn't surprise me if that gave him the confidence in his own ability to start closing out a Grand Slam or two as well.

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

It would make a great amusement park ride.

It was designed by the popular and prolific British artist Anish Kapoor, who is best known in the US for the "Cloud Gate" or, as it is popularly and more commonly known, the "Bean" in Chicago's Millenium Park. It is planned that the tower remain after the end of the Olympics.

… the popular and prolific British artist Anish Kapoor…

Popular with whom?

Prolific at nonsense?

At least this painfully ugly tower has some kind of use. That Chicago Bean looks ridiculous!

Whimsical follies like these belong in the gardens of menopausal millionaires' like Donald Trump or Saddam Hussein.

They shouldn't be foisted on to the long-suffering taxpayers.

Re: Why are there so many ads on American coverage of the Olympics?

The Olympics are almost over and I'm really disappointed with the coverage by NBC.

NBC has made them the Volleyball Olympics -- there is volleyball every day.

Very little track and field so far -- I know we have part of the weekend left -- but so much coverage to just a few sports.

I've not seen any wrestling and men's gymnastics were hardly covered.

Why is Ryan Seacrest there?

I like to see other countries too -- not just the USA.

Another grip is -- what happened to the award ceremonies? When did they do away with them and just hand them the medals in private now?

OK -- I've bitched enough.

Forgot one thing . . . the whole broadcast is so heavily edited, it doesn't even seem real.

WTF? Olympics spectator handcuffed and whisked away to London police station for not smiling

clown4.gif

Who let the insane clown out of the asylum and put him in charge of the London police?

Can you say...totalitarian police state? Why not just take 2 seconds to ask the man why he's not smiling before going to such draconian extremes? Answer: Because that wouldn't allow the clown in charge to feel power happy. This is exactly why more and more people are becoming afraid of clowns.

First, clowns from hell took over politicians' offices, and now they're taking over police stations. If they wanted everyone to smile, why didn't the cops dress in clown costumes and make balloon animals for everyone? Answer: You guessed it...then no one could be arrested, and the head clown wouldn't be able to feel power happy.

Do you think the head clown should be sent back to clown school?
