Mariah Carey + Madonna = Boring

Re: Mariah, Madonna Make History!!!

Oh, I was hating but in that kinda lovable way that I do.

Yeah, I really gotta dial that back.

To be fair, I didn't like "American Life" much either when it first came out.

LOL! Ok...........

Re: Mariah, Madonna Make History!!!

I think you're probably right.

I mean...the video hasnt even been released, it just went to number one on the digital songs chart today.....so..next week it might dethrone "Touch my body", maybe....its def. a possibility..

Lately, there seems to be dozens of threads about Mariah Carey and Madonna, some attesting to how good or bad they are, some wanting to know about the marriage/love prospects of one or the other, and some that don't seem to have a purpose at all.

Whilst I am aware of and appreciate that we all have different tastes, I would like to let it be known that I don't like either of them. In fact, I find all the carry on quite boring.

There are obviously some people who think these two much hyped women are the greatest singers who have ever walked the planet, and spend hours telling us that they .

I just wonder how many of those in Jubberland feel like I do. I would go as far as to say that I don't give a flying stuff about either of them.

slim to none. because half Likes mariah half likes Madonna....but there are some people here that dont like either of them..so..

Well, the thing is, they both have new albums out now, their new singles are burning up the charts all over the world & they are 2 of the biggest names in entertainment around so u know threads about them are gonna be popping up everywhere. And we all know how fans of both singers are - loyal & fiercely supportive! So there's no escaping threads about them right now!

And I agree with LatinoStar. Some love Madonna, some love Mariah, some love both & then there are people like u who don't give a rat's ass about either.

Thanks soooo much for that thread, Ramindra. It's so faggish to love these two women, you know, I thought I was the only 'straight-acting' - in terms of music - guy around here...

I agree with what Mystique wrote. You can't escape them since every time they launch a new record, it's like a big company launching a new global product - music is just like laundry soap and 'Mariah' and 'Madonna' are just brands among others. It's just business, and unless you live in the middle of Papua you can't escape that - which makes every 'OMG this is sooo amazing and new and innovative' stance about their music even more ridiculous.

Sure we all like what we like, but I'm quite sad to see that every bitchy thing is supposed to be 'gay', that's so cliché... It's like you're not a 'good' gay guy if you don't like either the big-boobed dumb one or the old anorexic cunt (as they once called her in South Park).

All that glitters is not gold - I believe a lot of guys should think about that...

I agree about Mariah. I like her but she is quite boring to me. Same old, same old right now.

I do appreciate how re-inventive Madonna is currently. Call her a sellout or whatever else you want for using Kanye, Justin, Timbaland and the Neptunes for helping with her new record but I simply love it.

Well, if I may add my two cents?

As the overwhelming majority voted here, I from now on am going to merge all topics pertaining to a "popular" CD to one thread. For example, there is a generic "Mariah Carey" thread, and there is also a thread dedicated to "E=MC2." Favorite songs on her latest album? Merged into the latter thread. Random thoughts on Mariah Carey, what she ate today, who she married, etc.? Into her "official thread."

While I realize that there are artists out there that a stereotypical gay man would flip their shit over, there are some that I would like to see more dedicated to. I realize this won't happen, and I'm OK with it.

That being said, if multiple threads start popping up about a certain artist (Madonna and Mariah lately, as I mentioned) then they are going to be merged. There's no point in having thread after thread after thread about "Hard Candy" or "E=MC2."

First, this is a gay forum. Second, they both have a new album out and there's tons of hype/rumors going on recently (i.e Mariah getting married, Madonna's marriage on the rocks with Guy)... If you go to any gay-populated msg board, chances are at least half of the first page is threads about them :P

I personally do not get the back and forth stuff. I did buy Madonna's album but honestly, I am almost over the techno/dance stuff. And don't even get me started on the top 40 chart as it is UTTER SHIT music. Nothing ground breaking or remotely original.

There are many great artists out there that write their own songs, play instruments and sing at the same time. It is a shame not too many gays venture out of the norm.

Bands like Sigur Ros, Spoon, Ryan Adams, Explosions in the Sky, Just Jack, Of Montreal, and Wilco just to name a few.

I can see some of you saying, "Don't you mean Bryan Adams?" ](*,)

Well, i love Both Madonna and Mariah, ive been listening to them since i was a little kid.

Stereotypically for a gay man, they are really my top 2 artists i listen to the most, with Prince coming in 3rd.

Im not too crazy about eithers new stuff, but....itll grow on me.

I mean i have 80 Madonna songs and 57 Mariah songs on my Ipod....

I dont go a day without listening to either.

It has nothing to do with gay people. People generally pay attention to the same crop of mainstream artists. It isn't just gay men making Madonna and Mariah #1.

And there are plenty of people on this forum in love with a plethora of different artists. They just don't make 10,000 threads a day about them.

Maybe not for Mariah cause she is more R&B than dance but sweatheart...have you ever been to any Madonna concert??? Half the audience is GAY. ..|

Madonna has always had a huge gay following before she even went the dance genre route. My parents of all people with my younger brother, when I was off away in college, saw her Girlie Show concert in Philly...I was so jealous. First thing they commented on was all "the gays" there.

Ramindra - I'm with you!

Madonna is almost as old as I am (even if she is in good shape) and I always thought she was overrated - and way over hyped, oh, and shall I mention 'up herself'?

Mariah...who? OK - so I have heard her name - but you'd pretty much have to pay me to listen to her.

There again - I am so totally NOT into the whole Celeb thing - but I do love me a good, and talented, rock band/artist.

Mariah and Madonna are so...yesterday.

I wasn't saying they don't have huge gay fanbases, they do. But my point is, their popularity on this board is indicative of their popularity with the general public. And though there's been dozens of threads about them lately because of their upcoming albums, there are plenty of other artists that the gay men on this board appreciate.

I listen to Santogold, Conya Doss, Adriana Evans, Estelle, Robyn, Algebra, M.I.A., Skye Edwards, Keisha White, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ledisi, and Meshell Ndegeocello.

Many of those artists are indie or badly promoted artists that sing about serious topics and are alternative, unique artists. But I also listen to Madonna, Mariah, the Pussycat Dolls, Raven-Symoné, Girlicious, Leona Lewis, Danity Kane, Justin Timberlake, Britney, etc.

What I am saying is there are various artists and genres people like. People respond differently to music, which means, in my opinion, that there is no such thing as "good music". I think we should all respect each others' interests in music and not typecast people or insult them for their taste. If you don't have anything nice to say, let it go.

That's my $.02.

They're both washed up and waaay past their prime.

Mariah was hot about 5-7 years ago but after the whole "Glitter" shit and her breakdown, she just started looking chubby and got annoying in a pathetic sort of way.

Madonna; everything after Ray of Light has been disposable, uninspired crap. Sometimes I wonder how she managed to last this long and still be successful.
