Um, if you don't write your own music or play an instrument, aren't you just a singer and not a MUSICIAN? (Legend or not?) Just saying...
Besides, FalconFan is my boy, so I had to defend him, lol.
I can play Mozart. I learned it long ago. I can play Beethoven pretty much spot on. However by no means would I consider myself Beethoven or Mozart.
Some people are born with singing abilities but to me art is the expression of ones self
and to compare the paint by number "Starry Night" to the real thing or my rendition of Moonlight Sonata to Beethoven just isn't a real comparison.
quite Frankly neither Mariah nor beyonce will be the new Lennon or McCartney any time soon
As far as me saying it's pointless it's because these diva's are mass produced. No one is intrinsically better than the other.
Beyonce... hands down. Excellent singer and entertainer.

And I'm sure Beyonce and Mariah don't consider themselves Tina Turner or Patti LaBelle. Doesn't change the fact that a voice is an instrument.
You don't think people with raw talent still have to learn how to use it? A voice is a tool, and one must use it properly just as they would a violin or a trumpet.
And you don't think someone can express themselves through singing?
What does that even have to do with anything?
O...kay? And neither will anyone else. Your point?
Right. So why did you bother replying to a thread titled Beyonce vs. Mariah? Does it make you feel better than everyone else?
I haven't signed back on in a little while. Anyway, sure, Tommy could've been controlling, but he couldn't have exerted full control over her because these aren't the slave days, she still had a choice and could've said something like, "Look, I'll fulfill the number of albums that's on my contract, but I'll be me".
And I'm sure Beyonce and Mariah don't consider themselves Tina Turner or Patti LaBelle. Doesn't change the fact that a voice is an instrument.
If by complex you mean loud and able to hit notes that make dogs go apeshit, then yes.
No offense, but you obviously have no idea how recording, or any entertainment, contracts can work. Your ideas are more ideal than real. I know a few people who could have had record deals, but the record companies would not give them artistic control, so they never signed. People who fight really hard with record companies have to be extremely, extremely talented and/or established.
Don't get me wrong guys, I LOVE Mariah!! Vision of Love is indeed lovely but it's a standard ballad that's made remarkable by her AMAZING vocals. Beyonce's songs feature more memorable hooks and slicker productions (they're also less lazy) but if Beyonce would kill for anything, it would be Mariah's voice. Beyonce's songs are better on their own but they can be sung by anyone, Beyonce herself doesn't make them special. Mariah's songs have been made timeless by Mariah's voice and THAT cannot be duplicated. And anyway I love Fantasy, Always Be My Baby and Breakdown (and ok, I have a fondness for Someday).
So reeeelax.
I can play Mozart. I learned it long ago. I can play Beethoven pretty much spot on. However by no means would I consider myself Beethoven or Mozart. I'm not saying that their voices aren't instruments but I'm saying that doesn't impress me nearly as much the artistry that goes into creating a song. I'm just not as impressed. Some people learn it. Some people are born with singing abilities but to me art is the expression of ones self and to compare the paint by number "Starry Night" to the real thing or my rendition of Moonlight Sonata to Beethoven just isn't a real comparison. It's a joke. It's just one of those things where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts and quite Frankly neither Mariah nor beyonce will be the new Lennon or McCartney any time soon
As far as me saying it's pointless it's because these diva's are mass produced. No one is intrinsically better than the other.
Mariah, hands down. Beyonce is too full of herself, and yet people think her voice is so extraordinary. Um, no. She just yells a lot.
mariah carey has a much bigger voice and far more range, beyonce's voice is MUCH thinner although she does have impeccable technique, her phrasing, diction and riffing abilities are far beyond the average pop star (don't respond to that if you haven't seen her in concert because this girl can tear the rafters down with some runs). beyonce's range is pretty average though but she's a better performer than mariah who usually either stands in one spot or moves around awkwardly to awkward choreography. i'd still pay big bucks to see either one, they're definitely better entertainers than anybody bashing them in this thread
I've never, ever seen one sign of Beyonce being full of herself; from what I have heard and seen, she is very down to earth. If anything, there are times when she performs where it seems that she may be slightly insecure with her abilities as she may try to upstage others (Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion).
I do come across a lot of people trying to compare her to more extraordinary singers like Mariah, Whitney, Christina, etc. So, I do understand what you're saying in that respect.
