I'm not talking about personal preferences. I'm simply discussing levels of singers. Beyonce is very overrated as a singer when one observes her natural abilities. She is still on the average side of singers; she will not be remembered for her voice.

Christina Aguilera, whether you like her voice or not, is on the same level as Mariah, Whitney, etc. If you do not like her voice, that's fine; all I am saying is she has abilities that rival other amazing singers in the entertainment industry.

Her voice just isn't that great. She sounds like a frog is dying. Sure, sometimes she can hit okay falsetto notes, but other than that, her voice simply cannot rival that of Whitney, Mariah, or Celine. Thats...not even a fair comparison.

i really think christina's incredible, i like her sound more than even whitney houston's personally. can i just say that singing in falsetto isn't the mark of a good singer, (even though i think christina does it beautifully) - it ruins your voice and in any case mariah's had her moments when she's blundered in it. christina can't beat mariah because she doesn't have the range or the layering to compete but she's still in the top league as far as im concerned due to her power alone. here's my favourite of her performances, i love it when she grunts! please watch it, you won't be sorry

Ive had Christina fans show me so many performances, and I'm just not impressed. I like a lot of her songs, but her shitty attitude makes me not buy her stuff. And I just don't like her voice...I mean it just sounds...weird. Now, I would put Leona Lewis in their category as far as vocally, but not Christina. This would be my list of spectacular vocalists IN ORDER:

I don't really know what else to say; This is not about what you like. I am not telling you to like Christina's sound; I couldn't care less whether or not you liked Christina's voice. All I am stating is, Christina has natural abilities that rival Mariah, Whitney, Patti Labelle, etc. There are facts in music, or even human physiology and biology for that matter.

strictly speaking 'diva' is a term from the bel canto tradition reserved for coloratura sopranos who have spent many years in training and treat their throats like fine instruments.

none of the singers mentioned in this thread could even begin to sing bel canto.

Cecilia Bartoli's pinky has more 'natural ability' that christina or mariah.

not of you has the faintest idea of what i am talking about.

go to the met or covent garden and try yelling 'you go, girl!' after Lucia's mad scene :)

I'm gonna have to go with the majority here and say Mariah. Beyonce is a great performer but vocally, she's no Mariah.

Both desperately need to reinvent themselves, but I think Mariah in her prime was FAR more appealing than Beyonce in her prime.

Christina has Beyonce beaten vocally, like Mariah. Boring is subjective, so I am not arguing your opinion of her as a performer. The same can be said for oversinging; however, Mariah seems to be showing more vocal restraint on her E=MC2 album all around.

That's great, if you do not like their voices; that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, Beyonce and Christina do not have the same or even similar vocal abilities; that is not debatable. Christina is on a different level than Beyonce, despite what you think of them personally.

Beyonce is probably the safer of the two. Christina has songs with deeper content whereas Beyonce sticks to the same kind of content: 1) Loving a man and 2) Hating a man. Besides, this is mainstream music anyway, this is what the masses buy. If you want to see different content, look in the independent labels, if you are searching for other content.

As far as bashing, I am not bashing. I just do not buy into the Beyonce hype; I still like her though. I used to sing when I was younger, which is why I guess I go on about this.

Marley, you are correct sir. Nobody can touch Beyonce in the technique department; I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've never seen a bad Beyonce performance. I've seen Mariah hit bum notes within a performance as well as having completely horrible performances (BET's We Belong Together).

I also agree that Beyonce has more of a stage presence; Mariah's just there. Unlike you, I do not believe anything could ever help Mariah with her dancing or her presence. She's been doing this professionally for twenty years, so if she does not have one yet, she never will. Plus, she's just not a dancer. Poor girl.

The only thing I can say about Beyonce is her riffs are not exactly riffs. They are too rehearsed; in other words, she riffs at the same point in each song the same way live. It kind of contradicts what a riff is at it's supposed to be a freestyle.
