Mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando Florida: Political Discussion [SPLIT]

Yes but it cannot be sheer coincidence that his religion and culture hate gays. He may have additional personal motivation, but Islam is no doubt part of it.

Speculation, or conspiracy driven theories are predictably driven by personal bias arising from political convictions.

I am not one to speculate without knowing Mateen, or anything of his personal life...so I will not.

So don't speculate. Go by his words and actions. He killed in the name of ISIL, for his god. :(

If you are referring to Mateen's words there is good reason to understand that he had no connection with IS, according to information supplied by his wife during FBI interviews...and that Mateen's religious devotion was rather sparse...according to his wife.

Easy for you to say, far away in Greece. We most do what will best protect ourselves, based on available information. We cannot ignore the muslim threat just because they do not give us sworn affidavits of their intent.

^I can assure you that terrorism is not confined to the United States. I may add that Greece is the principle entry gate for Middle Eastern refugees entering from Turkey, en route to north European destinations. In this respect in Greece we are very familiar with the needs of human beings fleeing war in Syria, and Iraq.

Geographical awareness isn't a strong point for Trump supporters.

Isn't it something close to one million refugees a year there right now? Any idea how many stay in Greece?

His wife? The one that has disappeared? Would you expect her to say anything different? That is exactly why she can't be forced to testify against him.

I thought spousal privilege is what prevents her having to testify against him.

Precise numbers are difficult to provide for many refugees slip through the net en route to destinations further north, with the Greek authorities looking the other way, for the facilities available in Greece for refugees are overflowing.

I quote:

More than 60,000 women, men, and children are stranded in Greece as a result of Western Balkan border closures and a poorly executed EU relocation plan. Thousands are restricted to abysmal and volatile conditions on the islands, while tens of thousands face deplorable conditions without access to services in the camps on the mainland.

MARY!

He had a long history of saying a lot of stuff. For example, he had claimed that Osama bin-Laden was his uncle (Source). He claimed to be a member of Hezbollah and Daesh (apparently not realizing that the two organizations- one Shi'a and the other Sunni- are enemies). He claimed to be friends of Tsarnaev brothers (there's no evidence they ever met- Source).

Mentally ill people say a lot of crazy stuff. He could have claimed to be a Mary Kay lady. However, if the FBI investigation didn't find a pink Cadillac, chances are that he wasn't. However, if you're convinced that beauty consulting makes people mass murderers, you're more inclined to buy into the Mary Kay angle.

I quote:

I think it's fairly appalling that western Europe isn't providing more funding, given they're doing everything they can to prevent westward movement of refugees at the same time as showing tough love towards Greece's economy.

^ The EU has accepted hundreds of thousands of fleeing refugees, housing them, feeding them, educating them, and in general providing employment with Germany the most organised of European nations addressing the practical needs of those human beings who are seeking a better life well away from wars, corruption and political instability. The UK, France, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Italy are also to be commended for their generous contributions providing refugees with a new life.

Nevertheless, more needs to be done including sorting out the Middle East mess once, and for all.

The thing that no one seems to be talking about is how the Syrian situation is resembling the Palestinian situation- where millions of people are in limbo with no prospect for return to their homeland, probably for generations to come.

^I have visited Syria on two occasions and was impressed by its modern, developed society.

I have the impression from discussing the return matter with Syrians stuck in Athens that once the Syrian war ends, they will rapidly return to their homeland. Many Syrian refugees are well educated and are an asset to their adopted country..however, they yearn for their home towns, families, and familiar culture.

Unfortunately, I've heard the same said about Afghanistan before the 1970s. That country is still trying to recover from 35 years of wars and religious fundamentalism.

That has been the history- a "brain drain" where in countries like Afghanistan, Lebanon and Syria, the people who are educated and middle-to-upper class acclimate and blend into their adopted country and never return to their country of origin. It's the less educated and unskilled workers who seem to have issues adapting and assimilating- particularly if there is no path to permanent citizenship. In places like Aleppo, will there be much for them to return to?

^Aleppo was the jewel in the crown of Syria's long history, and mixed cultural heritage sadly destroyed, along with a cocktail of communities now vanquished to the winds of time. Time will tell whether or not Syrians will return. It is noteworthy that those Syrians stuck in refugee centres in Greece are already poised to return to Syria, the result of their frustrations unable to progress further north.

I heard on the news this morning that the City of Orlando is buying the Pulse to turn it into a memorial.
