I agree with those who aren't buying the "I'm not racist!" plea. He's been in the entertainment industry for 25 years, he gets heckled by a couple of houligans during a stand-up routine, and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is "You would have been lynched 50 years ago"? Geez. That's not some irreverent sense of humor, that's just pure hate and ignorance. And the fact that he repeatedly used the phrase "Afro-American" during his public apology -- if you can call it that, since he's obviously only sorry that he got caught -- shows how completely out of touch he is.

Exactly and a little over 50 years ago Hitler would have tried to exterminate him in his concentration camps.

I guess he simply forgot that he's Jewish and would have faced persecution too not too long ago.

This whole incident could have been avoided if the guys in the balconey had kept their mouths shut and just let him do his act, however good or bad it was... It's unfortunate that the video doesn't show what was happening prior to this, because all we get to see is his outburst...

Maybe the owner of the club could do a better service for everyone, the comedians and the club patrons, by ejecting hecklers.

Hecklers are a part of the comedy scene. Just ask Jay Leno. First it was people defending the pedos in the Dateline "To Catch a Predator" thread and now people are blaming audience members for a racial onslaught directed at them.

People need to put on their thinking caps and use some common sense every now and then.

Once something like this happens, it becomes much easier for it to happen again. I can very easily imagine that if he were to resume comedy in public, there may well be a small number of people who will buy the ticket and go there, solely for the purpose of "testing" his resolve.

I completely agree. I've heard people use the N word in comedy routines before, and although I question it's use in most cases, that isn't what bothered me the most about this attack (and yeah, I think it WAS an attack - I'm not sure, but I think here in Canada, that would be considered a hate crime).

No, what shocked me the most was how he went on about 'how things were 50 years ago'. That wasn't a slip of the tongue, he ranted at some length and sounded (to me, anyways) like he was missing the 'good old days'. Maybe I'm wrong (haven't seen a clip in a few days), but I was just chilled by the anger and hate I saw. Not only in his performance, but also in his 'apology'.

Theyoungman, the fact that you consider silence to be best in this situation makes me sad, particularly given that your profile says that you're multi-racial. I hope to God, that if anyone ever talked to you like that, that you wouldn't just let it go. If people refuse to respond to issues like this, it only encourages others to spew their hate and anger at other people, since no one will do anything about it.
