Michael Sam Discussion Thread [MERGED]

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

Aww :(. He sacked Johnny Manziel so this was totally a race/sexuality thing. He should just go to Canadian league. I'm starting to hate this country for real.

The message this sends is "stay your faggot ass in the closet!".

It doesn't matter what profession you're a part of; being GAY in the workplace will always place you at a disadvantage.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

I hate football and I normally don't give a crap about the Rams. But Michael Sam made me feel proud of the Rams and my city. This turn of events makes me feel sad and very disheartened. I hope someone picks you up Michael if you're reading this.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

So does anyone who watched his games know why he was cut, or are we going to go for the "he was cut because he was black and gay" that I already see in one of the 2 posts I can see?

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher:

Fisher said Sam worked hard, but the team already had a lot of strong defensive ends.
....
The Rams' move does not necessarily mean the end of Sam's professional career. He could still be picked up by another team, possibly on waivers, or return to the Rams as a player on the practice squad, Fisher said.

1.SEC West coast player of the year. (This is one of the highest awards you can get in college football)
2.Arthur Ashe award (Another accolade given to very few)
3.Sacked the number one rookie of the 2014 nfl season
4.Was drafted to one of the worst teams of the nfl even though their west coast.

So yes he was cut because he was black and gay, the same as to why he was almost undrafted due to that same occurrence.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

Poor Michael.

At least Kane is ranting because he's a homo and not because he's black.

that is progress.

The problem with the "white gay community" is that you could give two fucks about his blackness. Thus making his sexuality even more irrelevant.

And don't assume to know why I'm upset about his release from the team. As seen from your comment, you're wrong already.

So can I turn it around and state that Tim Tebow - another very high ranked college player, Heisman trophy and all - was cut because he was white and Christian? Or, was he cut because he wasn't superb enough (or, especially in Tebows' case, over-hyped) to continue on with the team when there are, simply, better players on the roster at this point? Sacking Johnny "Football" may shut that guy up(and shut people up about Johnny "Football"), but it doesn't - and shouldn't - guarantee a roster spot. It's just one moment.

I also find it laughable that you're making it about race when, in the NFL especially, discrimination based on race is a VERY low factor. Hopefully Michael Sam uses this to get better, and according to you, get on a better West Coast team, because it's now gone from "he made a team", to "homophobia for cutting him", to "that team was crap anyway".

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

More News:

The next 24 hours will determine Sam's immediate NFL fate. The other 31 NFL teams can put in a claim for his services and Sam would go to the team that claimed him first. If Sam is unclaimed, there is a strong chance he will be signed as one of 10 practice squad players by the Rams.

If that happens, Sam can practice with the Rams but not play in a game. For that to happen, he will have to be placed on the active 53-man roster, something that can occur, for example, with injuries to other players. Practice squad players earn a minimum $6,300 per week they are on the team. This amounts to $107,100 if he lasts all 17 regular season weeks on the squad. Had Sam made the Rams roster, he would have earned $420,000 this season. He gets to keep the $45,000 signing bonus he was given after the draft.
=================

So hopefully, a team can pick him up if it's within the next 24hrs. Otherwise, he'll just be a practice dummy for the other players making $6,300 per week or $102,000 instead of the half million he would've gotten.

This is gonna be it, because we are gonna have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Tebow is a very spiritual person and I think half of it was his personal choice to not continue as a professional football player at this time. Instead he wants to do missionary work in Asia and in the Philippines. Yeah you just think I don't know why shit, don't you?

A straight black man, and a gay black man are two different things. Yes race in the sports world has been down a little, but that doesn't mean it still doesn't go on. Lots of straight black players do receive discrimination from time to time. Being a gay white man, and a gay minority are two different things, because as we speak, the native american, hispanic, asian and black ethnicities and races do not support homosexuality.

But black AND gay just adds lots of confusion to people in the sports world who are some the most closed minded people in the world.
Being black is already iffy in the sports world, but it's another thing to be black AND Gay.

Even through what he knows to be a bunch of bullshit, Michael is able to show just how professional and admirable he can be.

hell.... tebow got it way worse. they shitcanned him out the league.

hell, not denying that homophobia may play a part in michael sams not getting picked by any team but anybody that has been following knows or has heard that michael sam compared to the rest of the talent wasn't likely to get on because he wasn't playing as well as others. he wasn't that good in the combine and he was like the 7th round pick.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

Michael Sam may find a place with another NFL team. I hope so.

But considering what has happened with Chris Kluwe. the NFL is a difficult place to be.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

I feel sad for Mike. While I can't prove that this happened because of his sexuality, my personal experience tells me it is. I've been burned from a job because of my sexuality before. It's incredible how fast people turn against you when they figured out you're gay. And despite what most people think, bigots nowadays are smarter than to leave evidence for a lawsuit later on.

I sincerely hope Mike will pick up from here and continue on his quest.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

If he was really good, no one would care about his color or sexuality.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

While I can't prove that this happened because of his sexuality, my personal experience tells me it is.

Then you are not very informed of the basic facts here, and your personal experience is irrelevant.

1. The Rams starting defense ends include one of the best in the league and a former first round pick (Sam was 7th round).
2. The backups that made the team are more versatile (can play other positions) and larger than Sam is (scouts had said his smaller size would be a disadvantage).

Sam may still have a place in the NFL, but the Rams were not the right place.
