Michael Sam Discussion Thread [MERGED]

Well let's see how banged up all the teams are at playoff time. He may get a chance to shine then.

We have also took so many steps backwards into getting openly gay players in the NFL>

Aaron Rodgers, Manti Te'O, and Kerry Rhodes have padlocked and barricaded the closet door.

how do you know that they're gay though? rumors are just that.... rumors especially coming out the mouth of bitter personal assistants.

1. The Rams starting defense ends include one of the best in the league and a former first round pick (Sam was 7th round).
2. The backups that made the team are more versatile (can play other positions) and larger than Sam is (scouts had said his smaller size would be a disadvantage).

Sam may still have a place in the NFL, but the Rams were not the right place.

People will say this just a football decision BUT we live in a very prejudiced homophobic work.I feel bad for Michael Sam I know he is disappointed about not making the team.
I'm curious how he ended up being considered by the Rams in the first place, because they obviously had that position amply spoken for during the draft, already. Not being a big football fan, though, I know little to nothing about the winnowing process getting down to the 53-player roster, or how many more than 53 they begin with.

But teams have variability in other sports as well. In the same way, a team can already have incredible starters, but be terribly deficient of good relief pitchers, or the same works with soccer (futbol), basketball, hockey, rugby, any other team sports. It even works that way all the way down to junior varsity sports in school.

He certainly did take his elimination in utmost grace, though.

That's the million dollar question.

We may never get the answer. It's kinda fifty/fifty on whether not he was drafted so low because he was gay, if he was drafted so low because of his combine, or if he was drafted because he said he was gay.

I think it's a bit of everything. There have been a few coaches who said point blank period no because he's LGBT. And handful that were apprehensive and just said he was a "distraction". I think the NFL still is scared of the negative press of not giving him a chance so idk.

He really needs to just transfer to Canadian league. America isn't ready and I sadly agree as an American.

So supposedly he's gonna be on WWF next monday night but I dont know if it's gonna be apart of a scripted act or just them interviewing him but I feel indifferent about this. He seems really pissed to want to do wwf/wwe of all things, I do understand that people move on, shit happens world still turns but stil. This is gonna make him even go farther into making it into the league.

Many thanks to ESPN for the hatchet job they did on Michael Sam. Hope finds a team other then the Cowboys.

Yes I heard Dallas might be good for Sam I hope this works out for him! This is awesome news!

No Sam wants to me in the NFL it is either NFL or nothing for him. I think homophobia was indeed in play the guy is a solid player had a good pre season and YET the Rams dropped him. The good news is Dallas is thinking about using Sam. I hope he passes and gets on the squad.

Aaron Rodgers is a joke and so is Kerry Rhodes both those queens got outed by their male personal assistants. Rodgers hiring Munn to be his girlfriend is lame and Kerry Rhodes denying he likes penis is BS. If the world was more open minded Rodgers and Rhodes would be out and proud. I think most people know Aaron Rodgers isn't straight he lied about dating a woman and he lied about his former ex boyfriend saying they were just pals.

Re: First GAY NFL draftee Michael Sam CUT by St. Louis RAMs

The message this sends is "stay your faggot ass in the closet!".

It doesn't matter what profession you're a part of; being GAY in the workplace will always place you at a disadvantage.

sadly, this is the underlining message Kane is right. The homophobia in the NFL is extreme and I think Sam is indeed a bright young man. I do hope it works out in Dallas this guy is good enough to be in the NFL. It shouldn't matter that Sam is gay. So many wife beaters, rapists, and other jerks in the NFL but a gay man is a problem it is so sad how the NFL is so homophobic.

yes west coast team. and all the homophobic dallas fans are just gonna have to get over it.

Rememba this?

I've been arguing with bitches all across the world wide interwebz about Michael Sam's release, and it shocks me just how dismissive people can be when you place facts right in front of their eyes. Even gays who admit to not being sports fans were yelling and screaming about "it being a football decision" and NOT homophobia.

Bitch what?

This!

I'm still sitting in my office. Just heard this on my radio. Texas Cowboys just picked up Michael Sam.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/04/s...-sam-to-join-cowboys-practice-squad.html?_r=0

It is true. All of the local news outlets here in Big D confirm he will be on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. It's a chance - not a guarantee. But a chance.

WFAA-TV sports director Dale Hansen, who supported Sam in those famously viral editiorials...

...Well Dale kept up his support, last night on Dallas-Fort Worth's Channel 8 - "I'm real tired of hearing what a 'distraction' he might be"

I'm real tired of hearing what a "distraction" Sam might be. A Jerry Jones team, and you think Michael Sam is a distraction? As the great Jimmy Johnson would say: "Please!"

We still don't know if Michael Sam can play in the NFL, but if Sam can't play for this Cowboys defense, he might want to find another line of work.

He simply wants a chance. The Cowboys are giving him that chance — nothing more, nothing less.

People can rationalize all they want. What's happening to Michael Sam screams of closet homophobia.

I've been there. I've been driven out of a job before. With my current company, I've been keeping my mouth shut while other guys talk about pussy and camel toes. Not even a hint of having a boyfriend. And I've made it to middle management. In the other company, I was somehow not qualified. Of course they denied it had anything to do with who I date.

Cuts are a necessary and normal part of the game.....every team has to get the roster down to 53. It is not at all unusual for a last round draft pick to be cut.

It would have been worse if they kept him on the final roster BECAUSE he is gay. They treated him like they would treat all the rest of the players. THAT is a good thing.

He has been picked up...that is also a good thing.

But that's what they all say. As I said before, I've been burned at a job before. Held me up to impossible standards and then hit me with over exaggerated bad reviews. The company I currently work for is much more prestigious and I've made it to middle management. Even got my own office nowadays. All it took was for me to not give a single hint that I live with another man. While people talk about their wives, pussies, camel toes, and tits walking by the office, I keep my mouth shut. In the other place, I kept using gender neutral terms, and that was what gave me away. This time around, I don't even mention anything at all.

Bigots nowadays don't just come out and tell the world they hate gay people. Like I said before, it's not the loud bigots that scare me. It's the ones that pretend to be your friends that keep me up at night.
