On-Topic Missouri Republican’s Controversial Remarks Regarding “Legitimate Rape”

To begin with, the entire notion that women who get raped don't get pregnant is about the stupidest medical opinion that I've ever heard on the subject and there have been some pretty stupid ones over the years.

Men should shut the fuck up about trying to write the etiquette book for rape.

Evidently Aiken is going to give up the nomination according to local news reports here. He's toast -- he was an awful choice anyway.

Now Claire is robbed of the guy she wanted to run against ... and after she spent all that money in the last couple of weeks making the guy look even more like a weirdo than he is.

I think it's time the republican party to go after Claire.

Tell her story -- about her drug dealer husband, questions about her involvement in his murder, her tax fraud, fraudulent expense reports as US Senator -- charging taxpayers thousands for her private jet, her new husband's overseas business dealings (would make Harry Reid blush), and look into her history as Jackson County Prosecutor.

She's played nasty. It's time to get nasty with her.

Re-introduce her to Missouri voters and the nation.

Wonder who the Mo republican party will choose.

I didn't know there were legitmate forms of rape. How silly of me!
Seriously, the Republcians's are going overboard in their attempts to try and control everyone's sex life, enough already!

This thread isn't about Claire.

Stick to the topic please.

As resident of the Show Me State we are really proud of this state as produced in circus of the GOP. First we get Rush Limbaugh the lard butt of far right media. John Ashcroft the all mighty moral leader of the GOP. And now Todd Akin the darling of the Tea Party and the anti aboriton forces.

Could be. But hes still primarily just ignorant.

This is the problem with the US politics these days, idiots are being nominated for political office to legislation impertinent social issues when they lack basic knowledge about them. This shows the Missouri Republican Party and the Republican National Convention didn't do their proper homework to discover whom this guy was although he has been in the US House for years now...

In other words, it is beyond ignorance, this is just plain inexcusable and down right disturbing.

One post here says Akin is gonna quit the run, I hope the hell he stays in. It would be guaranteed the Dem would win. Someone else asked can a politician win with 0% of the women vote? Let him run.

Even if he does or doesn't stay, he will become the poster child of social regression that some are trying to shove down the US's throat.

Read it in context. He was not saying that some rape is legitimate in the sense of acceptible. He meant that Doctors have informed him that in the ace of actual violent rape the womans body resists conception. That reaction might not occur in the event of less violent rape with less resistance. It is a simple gaffe.

Seriously? Who are these so called "Doctors"? - I'm betting their names are Demento and Feelgood.

Claire McCaskill selected Aiken as her candidate. She and her pac's spent millions of dollars in TV and radio ads promoting him for the republican nomination.

Aiken became the nominee because Claire's ads promoted him as the most conservative and ran ads that exaggerated positions and accomplishments of the other candidates. It's not a good idea to get involved in the other party's selection process.

I have no idea of what Aiken was talking about regarding rape -- he's not a polished speaker.

Claire is a trainwreck waiting to happen -- she has a tremendous amount of baggage.

I knew you were going to come up with something stupid and you didn't disappoint as usual.

Why the fuck are you talking about Claire McCaskill in a thread about a republican moron talking about "legitimate rape:"...? Are you that desperate to change the subject and derail the thread? Or is that a Freudian slip on your part?

Jesus fucking christ Springer. Do us all a favor and keep your computer turned off. ](*,)

HMMM millions Huh? According to this WSJ website John Brunner had 1.6 million spent against him but NO other MO candidate makes the top ten for support for or against. SO i suppose that makes your claim made up or false.

NOW back to topic

This whole rape thing is amazing that the idiot actually said it in the first place. Then you have both Romney and Ryan backtracking on legislation they have said they support. The support person hood amendment which says all abortion is murder no matter the cause. Now all of a sudden that Aiken has their bacon they are for Rape abortions.... poor weathvanes can't decide which way the wind is blowing. These are the principled leaders the right is bemoaning all the time. Gimme a fuckin break.

Well, in a move that should surprise NO ONE, Tony Perkins (our dear friend at the Family Research Council) has decided to publicly support Todd Akin full stop. Apparently, this is all "gotcha" politics (????)

In an UN-expected move, he also took the opportunity to send a WARNING (he's looking at YOU Scott Brown) to any conservative candidates who don't toe the line in standing behind Akin

"For other Republicans, I have not seen Scott Brown’s statement, but he should be careful because based on some of his statements there may be some call for him to get out of his race," Perkins added.
Asked what he was referring to, Perkins said that Brown has been "off the reservation on a number of Republican issues, conservative issues."
"His support among conservatives is very shallow," he added.

OUCH!!!!

Family Research Council Backs Akin

Is it wrong to hope Perkins gets raped some night?

Akin is toast, he's exiting the race tomorrow.

The GOP wants that seat and they know he is a dead man walking if he remains their nominee.

Huh? How can it possibly be rape if there was no actual contact? Attempted, maybe.

I considered a whole bunch of unpleasant ideas swirling around to a confluence in my head and I asked myself, if I were the Crown Prosecutor would I be motivated to apply a rape charge in some imaginary no-contact situation: Yes, I would.

I think confinement is a necessary element of rape; either by physical means or psychological. A person must reasonably feel or know that their right to withhold consent is being ignored, and they are in a situation they cannot exit. So in a way it is like kidnapping. Given the context, rape might also be called sexual kidnapping.

The sexual nature; the absence or withdrawal of consent; the inability for whatever reason to preserve and enforce one's own autonomy by just leaving - these seem to be the essential elements of rape. It used to be based on a specific gender combination or a specific orifice - distinctions I find outdated and meaningless. To me I think it boils down to those three things, and perhaps only those three things, though this is a new idea to me so I'm certainly open to revisions.

With no sex, no consent, and no door, it's kidnapping or unlawful confinement.
With no sex, consent, and no door, it's a denial dominatrix.
With no sex, no consent, and a door, it's a boring date that ends early.
With sex, consent, and no door, it's kinky bondage play from the fetish forum.
With sex, no consent, and a door, it's indecent exposure or attempted rape.
With sex, no consent, and no door, it's rape.

So what if one is confined and made to bear witness to or display sexual behaviour in violation of the person's choice? When someone shows indifference to consent and thus perverts human contact it certainly counts as rape. But contact is perhaps not the only intrusion to merit the label of rape. Is physical contact a meaningful threshold in that situation?

(BTW I assume by "skin to skin" you mean any physical contact: semen to skin; skin to hair, covered hand to skin)

Again, I'm grateful for any input on an aspect of something I've not previously considered.
