On Topic Discussion Monkeypox Outbreak

According to that official September 30 report, those two deaths were due to meningoencephalitis, and a patient who died "from other causes", had nonetheless suffered an "infection concomitant with monkeypox". So yes, there were three.

Damn that yellow flag, stands out like a BREAKINGNEWSREDALERTALARMALARMALARM!!!

It seems so passé that even in death-leading (2 dead last summer) Spain you have to dig down to the related government site to find any "new news" about it: https://docreader.readspeaker.com/docreader/?jsmode=1&cid=cesks&lang=es_es&url=https://www.sanidad.gob.es/profesionales/saludPublica/ccayes/alertasActual/alertaMonkeypox/docs/Informe_de_situacion_MPX_20220930.pdf&referer=https://www.sanidad.gob.es/

Yesterday in the news: the outbreak is considered (rather than "officially declared") under control, after a total of 2149 diagnosed cases in Catalonia (98% being males), 47 hospitalizations, and over 11163 doses administered, now going for a second shot... and Fuck knows how many long hours and days of sexual abstinence

Global update

According to the ‘2022 Monkeypox Outbreak: Global Trends’ report published by the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a decreasing trend in the number of new MPX cases reported globally, with a decrease of 3.7% in the number of reported cases in week 46 (14–20 November 2022) compared to week 45 (7–13 November 2022). According to the report, globally, the majority of cases (91.9%) were reported in the Region of the Americas.

Monkeypox has been renamed mpox by the WHO.

So monkey pox... I mean really we need to worry about being pc with it?! We aren't worried about curing it and eradicating it we are worried the word monkey pox is offensive! If I rolled my eyes any harder my retinas would whip out the front of my eyes!

Sorted.

Just in time for some breakthrough cases in Chicago and Europe... and IML2023 and Pride in the US. :##:

The smallpox vaccinations in the US did slow the 2022 outbreak but these new cases from April are happening in fully vaccinated people are a little puzzling.

On Monday, Howard Brown Health, an LGBTQ-focused clinic in Chicago, reported eight new cases of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, since April 17. By comparison, only one case, also diagnosed at Howard Brown, was reported to the Chicago Public Health Department in the previous three months...

Diagnosed cases have been “increasing slightly” in eight countries in the past three weeks, including France and several countries in east Asia, said Dr. Rosamund Lewis, the technical lead for mpox at the World Health Organization. About half of the recent French cases were in vaccinated people...

Seven of the eight newly diagnosed patients were in gay or bisexual men, said Dr. Leanna Gordon, the medical director of preventive medicine at Howard Brown. One person was unvaccinated, one had received one dose of the two-dose Jynneos vaccine, and six were fully vaccinated.

They should make enough vaccine for everyone! You never know where you might pick something like this up.
