Did you noticed that in the 21st century that most urinals have partitions everywhere you go or in many places the restroom only has one urinal in the corner or with one toilet and one urinal or just one toilet? In the 20th century restrooms had more urinals and not all of them always had partitions. Do you think this is due to homophobia and fear of male nudity? Why are things different now then back then? Men were more relaxed about communal nudity and peeing next to a man in a urinal or trough back in the day. Men also changed, showered, and skinny dipped together. That stuff wouldn't happen these days due to homophobia and fear of male nudity. Even naval bases/naval gyms where communal showering is normal and accepted recently began stalling/curtaining the showers and partitioning the urinals. How can it not be homophobic?!

I wonder about it to a degree.
In high school the stalls did not have doors, there were no partitions, this was in the '60's. We were forced to strip in the locker room, this started at 11 or 12 where I lived.
Today mandatory showers are a thing of the past, stalls have doors and I suppose there is privacy to take a leak.

Maybe men are chicken or society respects the right to privacy, I think in times past much of the nudity in school was to prepare us for the armed forces.

It was probably a good thing though so men and boys felt comfortable about their bodies and not ashamed. I wasn't aware that stalls didn't have doors. I am aware that decades ago swim classes for boys at school and YMCA had mandatory nude swimming and Boy Scouts also skinny dipped. People should have to shower after gym class though otherwise they'd smell bad.

The real "harm" (I use the word loosely) if any is the shock factor, a boy is taught from a young age to cover up, don't let anyone see "it", in my family modesty was an obsession, then one day it's bare all in a locker room, at 11 or 12 it was overwhelming, the teasing lead to physical attacks, no supervision and then getting the hell beat out of you on the way home by 4 or 5 boys, I was uncircumcised and under developed, I survived... but is that what a boy should go through?

If someone attacks someone while the victim is in the nude I would think that to be considered sexual assault no matter what the motive was.

When boys attack boys (at least where I lived) it was a non event. I still remember some bitch teacher asking me what I did to make them hit me. What a dumb fuck remark.
But, as I said, I did survive. I just learned at an early age that many people are quite stupid.

My guess would be for privacy...and to limit the possibility of being splashed by a fella with bad aim.

But the question is where was the concern of privacy back in the 20th century? Back in the day guys had no issue about pissing next to one another, skinny dipping, changing, and showering together after gym or being nude in a sauna/steam room/hot tub. So I can only assume it is motivated by a new form of homophobia that exists now but didn't exist before.

It seems that while younger guys are more comfortable with equality for the LGBT while older guys don't share their comfort so much that older guys are more comfortable with communal male nudity than younger guys are. Ironic how life is!

I don't know. To me dividers don't make a difference. It just gives someone a little extra privacy that's all. lols.

We have two mens rooms where I work. One has dividers, and the other one doesn't.

This is just one of those "who knows" things. The building manager or whatever decided to have/or not have them,

I know at Dodgers stadium, each level has a different type of restroom. lol. One has urinals with no dividers. One has urinals with dividers. One has trough urinals. So, yeah. Why couldn't all the restrooms be the same? lol.

Actually, I see at least 4 questions in your opening post, with this one the last:

How can it not be homophobic?!

The post you quoted addressed that question. Are you stupid?

Looking back to 'the 20th century', we were encouraged to punch perverts like you in the face and then kick in a few ribs while you were down on the piss stained floor.

If you can't allow your sick head to grasp the hygiene/sanitation angle, then consider those 'cock-blocking' dividers there for your protection, to keep you safe from getting bashed, and be grateful for them.

People have always suffered from paruresis, this just makes it easier for guys to concentrate on having a pissing without worrying people around them might look (you can imagine the past as some strange male nude festival where all the lads hung out with their dicks out, but I am pretty sure it ain't true).

Anyway why do you care about some partitions that make it easier for some? You out cruising toilets still?

However, baseball stadiums (at least all the ones I've been to in the past ten years - about six of them - mostly Minor Leagues) have the long urinal units which are made out of metal. No privacy there at all. Why do I see those types of urinals in stadiums, and almost nowhere else? (I've also seen them at a bar somewhere, I think it was a gay bar but not sure, been to both kinds - rarely...)

Funny here in Australia I think I have only ever once come across a urinal with dividers. The vast majority have about 5-8 with no urinals.maldonit is quite common for a lot of bathrooms to just have a long trough. I am 34 and most men my age and above have no issue with using it, but I do notice quie a few younger men and teens don't like using them much, although even they are in the minority. It definitely seems to be more of an American thing. Are there even any troughs left in America?

I think that with all the male porn out there showing guys with humungous dicks......the other 99% are afraid of showing off their shortcomings.

You see them all the time here (bars, football stadiums, music venues) - but normally they are just horrible toilets that never get cleaned/repaired/redone.

"paruresis"

Thank you Jonny. I never knew there was a name for it; always thought of it as "piss shy". :D

My close friends say I can't pee in front of someone because I am gay which has always seemed a ridiculous statement to me. Now I can just tell them I have paruresis.

I think most men prefer the privacy dividers afford, but stadiums need to accommodate long lines as quickly as possible, and troughs are needed.

The OP on this thread, and his several other threads is using propositional logic, filled with assumptions to advance his political platform.

For the OPs propositions to succeed in persuading/influencing his audience, the OPs premises are taken for granted by the audience...despite the OP not providing citations/proof to support his assertions, and then with the application of modus ponens (an inference rule) the conclusion follows.

To further the OPs propositions there should be a soul mate (sockpuppet) posting in the his thread (s) in support of his assertions...keep an eye out for the poster who enthusiastically supports the OPs propositions:-)
