  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Most urinals have partitions

paruresis

A shy bladder affects many people particularly, the reserved person..closing ones eyes, and imaging a waterfall spilling sheets of water can assist with urination....

It is funny that up until the age of 20 or so...I was always piss shy...and then once I hit my stride as a cocksucker....no problems. I have no problem pissing in front of anyone now.

I'd love to thank the interior designer though, who selected a glazed black tile for the washrooms at our local theatre and didn't provide piss splattered dividers....for the pervs who like to watch others piss or to see how you measure up...it is like a wall of mirrors....

One of the best urinals that I remember was at the Royalton Hotel in NYC......Just a sheet of stainless with a small trough in the floor. When you pissed a sheet of water would flush it away.

I was in a boy's school with no privacy from boy's or staff... from age 13 until nearly 15, I had no trouble taking a leak. I think it was because the place was a total exposure situation. We j/o in front of each other, nothing was secret except some sexcapades with other boys that some of us took part in, these happened when left alone with a friend to do some janitor or maintenance type work.

Then when I was sent home I found that one day I could not piss with others around me, it was a bad problem for some time. Then I started to desensitize myself, pissing in a stall while flushing to hide the sound was a start, then no flushing. One day I found that I could piss at a urinal again if alone. I moved that to being able to go if I was the first one at the urinals and someone walked in, I could keep the flow going.

Now in most instances I have little trouble, troughs at stadiums are still a no go.

If someone attacks someone while the victim is in the nude I would think that to be considered sexual assault no matter what the motive was.

So, you're in bed at night, sound asleep, and you sleep naked. Some guy breaks into your home and starts going through everything you've got to find what he can sell for a few easy bucks. He makes it to your bedroom and sneaks around, going through your closet and dresser drawers. He knows you're there in bed. When he approaches your bed to get to your wallet on the nightstand, he steps on your shoe, loses his balance, and knocks something off the nightstand, waking you up. You yell at him and, in his panic, he starts to pummel the shit out of you with his flashlight.

Sexual assault. Yup.

By the way, not everything (such as partitions between urinals or male nudity in films) is due to homophobia. Usually it's just for privacy.

Actually, I see at least 4 questions in your opening post, with this one the last:

The post you quoted addressed that question. Are you stupid?

Looking back to 'the 20th century', we were encouraged to punch perverts like you in the face and then kick in a few ribs while you were down on the piss stained floor.

If you can't allow your sick head to grasp the hygiene/sanitation angle, then consider those 'cock-blocking' dividers there for your protection, to keep you safe from getting bashed, and be grateful for them.

Why are you attacking me and calling me a pervert? I really don't care what you think about me. I like adult men and I don't disrespect anyone nor invade their privacy. If someone touches me they'll go to jail and I have had a guy arrested years ago because he attacked me and was obsessed with the fact I am gay. I never made a pass at him. He just hated gays. What is with so many rude people on this forum? I'm not stupid, crazy, nor a pervert. I think some of you need to grow up! If there is something you want to accuse me of go ahead but I can assure you I am into adult men, not boys, so I don't know what is up with the defamatory pervert remark. You need to chill out!

I didn't say it was all homophobia but do wonder why the privacy movement now and why didn't it happen years ago.

People have always suffered from paruresis, this just makes it easier for guys to concentrate on having a pissing without worrying people around them might look (you can imagine the past as some strange male nude festival where all the lads hung out with their dicks out, but I am pretty sure it ain't true).

Anyway why do you care about some partitions that make it easier for some? You out cruising toilets still?

No, I don't cruise toilets. What's up with your blatantly rude comment? You made an assumption about me which you do not know to be truth. I can assure you it is not true. I thought people on Topix were rude, like the straight religious bigots, but I can see that sometimes gay and bi men can be even more hateful to one another and their own community. That is a shame!

I am sorry if it came across as rude (I don't actually see anything wrong with cruising and have done it - just it's a dead scene), but I mean it seems like you want a return to less privacy. In other threads you have talked about wanting to see more nude males. It feels like all of these threads are pretty much the same - you want to look at more nude men in public to get your jollies.

^ Pretty much this.

The thread topics seem to be an unwavering yearning for a time of more public male nudity. The only reason that anyone would care about this is if they are A) An exhibitionist, or B) A voyeur.

Pretty simple.

For most ....ogling cock at the urinals isn't a thing.

What's this fixation on public toilets. #-o

Just live the dream.

There is no fixation I was just curious what motivated the change from no partitions to partitions everywhere. I don't know why I have to explain this over and over to everyone. Some of the posters seem to have some comprehension problems with that. I just thought it would be an interesting subject for gay men to discuss but apparently I was wrong for many of the gay men on this forum tend to be very high maintenance, high strung, and very EASILY OFFENDED by EVERYTHING! I'm not saying that about you in particular. I think some of the posters are just angry people in their daily lives and look for reasons to get angry on here and vent. Some of the gay bullies I've ran into makes me feel the right wing bullies I've dealt with in the past are way the lesser of the two evils.

I'm not into pee or anything like that and I'm sure seeing penises at urinals wouldn't be a very sexy thing anyway considering they'd be in a flaccid state anyway. Supposedly back in the day when there weren't partitions I hear some straight guys would take a peek at other guys to size compare but you really can't size compare on flaccid. I guess they weren't educated on growers vs. show-ers and shrinkage.

It's not so much about seeing nude males. I can get laid if I want to. It's more about wondering what caused the change. It's more about the social change that got me so curious. I just wondered what the motives were that made men more modest and wondered if homophobia and increased religious fanaticism played a role in some way. And I like doing and saying anything to piss off homophobes and religious fanatics for they are the scum of the earth. It's more of a rebellious thing than a sexual thing.

But the question is where was the concern of privacy back in the 20th century? Back in the day guys had no issue about pissing next to one another, skinny dipping, changing, and showering together after gym or being nude in a sauna/steam room/hot tub. So I can only assume it is motivated by a new form of homophobia that exists now but didn't exist before.

It's a pretty general basis for assuming a new form of homophobia. Partitions at a urinal are hardly grounds for calling homophobia. The world is a different place today. It may well be for security/privacy, to stop perverts from slyly videoing people taking a piss and posting the video on the internet, or it could be as sweet_taboo said, for hygiene reasons.

There are many reasons the world changes and things are redesigned. To decree it a new form of homophobia is definitely a knee-jerk reaction and a slightly odd one too.

I'm open to all those possibilities but just wondered if men in general were more self-conscious about their bodies because they are afraid of gays checking POSSIBLY checking them out since it is more known now that gay men exist than it was before.

Society is more prudish about nudity in general than before. As of 2012 the Coppertone Girl has even been covered up in the new logo after 60 something years of having the classic previous one. I hardly think that some pedophile is going to be getting off on the Coppertone Girl, a cartoon! I think people have gotten a little extreme and paranoid.

Also, children have grown up seeing the Coppertone logo and were not "traumatized" by the nudity. It's probably some religious fanatics and politically correct people bitching about it.

Judging from the quick google on the Coppertone Girl, I would say it probably changed due to the fact a female child was being sexualised to sell a product. Its a creepy fucking logo, and people finally had enough of it.

I still want to get to the bottom of why you think nudity is becoming less of a thing? Do you have any evidence it is a less of a thing now? Or is it just all your experience? Because I would say the opposite is happening - again just my experience though.

Also, how old are you? Just as a way of gauging your experience of this nude past.

^ Pretty much this.

One thing that has happened is that nudity is now compartmentalized. The internet provides ample male nudity which just simply did not exist as readily and easily available only 20 years ago. Once homosexuality came roaring out of the closet....men have started to become more aware of themselves as being sexually attractive to other guys. And the barriers have gone up because of this self-awareness.

But overall? The amount of male nudity on display for private enjoyment has exploded exponentially and given the amount of sexting and dick pics today....I would say that generally guys are way less prudish about what they share with the world...it is now just done through a screen instead of in person.

Sorry, but not being able to easily perv on men in toilets anymore does not mean 'homophobia'. Are we really complaining about people being able to appreciate a little personal space in their daily lives?

I can't say I've ever even questioned the presence of partitions/stalls/walls in bathrooms, much less viewed them as an obstacle :\

If we are honest, most guys str8 or gay (or in between) will glance at another guy in the men's room or locker room. We are by nature score keepers, we measure everything, cars, boats, homes and cocks.

However, most feel violated and don't like it when they get their junk mentally measured from another guy, I think that it is because we are also territorial, the attitude of it's mine, hands (and eyes) off seems to be obvious.

The partitions are the current trend, with the pendulum swinging both ways and the need to peek someday they may disappear.
Society at times gets loose and wild as it did in the 1960's at other times it gets tighter than a frogs ass, change is consistant and does not reflect any homophobia.
