Muslims can't do the job.....

I must agree w/ the comment regarding "picking" & "choosing" aspects of a religion. If one is "living" their beliefs, a public display isn't (or shouldn't be) so important. A few years ago some women sought jobs as airport security personnel & were upset when told that a head scarf wasn't part of their uniform. What part of "uniform" confused them, I wonder? If a women following the faith of Islam is working outside of the home, any other concern seems to me to be of minor concern.
 
My only related incident was when I lived in Chicago. Grocery stores sell alcohol. The cashier was 18, couldn'tscan it, I did.

As far a religious views, people should look were there seek work.

I have no sympathy for those chastized for there beliefs in handling meat.

and everybody wonders why the world is at war and people die every day get it through your thick skulls you need to try and accept people and there beliefs, wt if u believed in something and u lived in a place that a lot of jobs went agenst ur beliefs and a lot more jobs didn't want u because ur an immigrant or didn't qualify how r u supposed to live?...beg on the street?...guess wt? people try to cope with wt they got to survive….how would u feel if u where in there shoes…and don't tell me I would quit or get another job coz that’s bullshit and u know it…when u have to u get wt ever job u can to live……………………….why am I even trying….u know wt….think wt ever u want and do wt ever u want…people r narrow minded and stubborn and won't even try to accept wt they don't understand………don't u see wt ur all doing?...u want everyone to accept gay people or at least try to understand them….but u don't want to understand or accept those guys…wt? are those issues so different??.....

I can't envision a gay applying for a job with Rev Phelps.
I can't imagine a gay requesting a job working for Jerry Falwell.
Most people who have a family history of lung cancer wouldn't consider working at a cigar club.
People with aversions to height don't become flight attendants or pilots.
If you're repulsed by blood don't become a surgeon.
Every wave of immigration to the US has found a niche without demanding their employers change procedures to accomodate them (they were grateful for the job).
Within a generation their children had even less problems and usually better opportunites and they still didn't demand their employers cater to them.
Most jobs have a job description. It is used when recruiting and for performance evaluations after hiring.
If you can't comply with those duties, look for another job.
 
I am so over every religions. I can't stand it. I do not associate with any of them. Keep it to yourself.

If a person doesn't want to work around certain meats, he could get a job at a vegan restaurant, a shop selling cotton fabrics, a vinyl fabric wholesaler, etc........
 
A young friend of mine worked in the ladies clothes section of a very fine department store.
She is Mexican-American and bilingual.
We are near the border and get affluent Mexican shoppers frequently.
None of the other sales women spoke Spanish and my friend would have to translate. They all were on commission so my friend would lose money everytime her time was monopolized assisting other clerks make a sale.
She discussed the issue with management and suggested they provide language training or pay bilingual personnel more. Her ideas fell on deaf ears so she ultimately quit.
Now if this scenario played out here, what would be the reaction of the woman who wouldn't handle pork products if her coworkers received a higher rate of pay? Afterall, they would be performing all specified duties, while she was exempting herself from some.

A store here couldn't keep its employees who spoke Spanish, and did just your friend suggested -- they now pay fifty cents an hour more to people who are bilingual, and double that once the employee has been there six months. It isn't much, but it's better than feeling jerked around by everyone who wants a translator for their department.
 
The cashier probably has a desire to retain her sense of purity in every way she can. This, as we all know, can be difficult in America.
I think if you see that you can respect that and accomodate her.
It's a minor thing.
I have no religious hang-ups like this myself, but the discipline of retaining a sense of purity is a universal human expression. I like to stay pure in other ways.
And so do you. Or you need to think about that carefully.
All of you who are so critical need to think about that.
 
hm, did some of these cashiers think about chips, cookies, candies etc containing pig grease or gelatine? To be completely honest, they should be making the clients read all the ingredients to them.
 
My 2 cents. My family and relatives are muslim and I say why does a muslim work for an organisation which sells pork products if you dont want to handle it? Does she know that part of her pay came from those said pork products?

Here the muslim cashiers handle pork prods by the edges and all cashiers wash and wipe their counters after all meat products to prevent contamination. The same goes for the Hindus whose beliefs are against beef consumption. The islamic and hindu organsations pass supermarkets that retail both items respectively, once they are stored and handled seperately and in the case of Islamic beliefs, the beef and chicken products come from suppliers that have properly halaled them.

Price Smart has been operated in Trinidad for a few years. They are American, but understand the cultural differences among the people here. All their pork is seperate from beef and chicken and other meet products. Where necessary the meet products are halaled. I've never had a cashier there ask me to handle any meat products because their beliefs prevent them from doing so, and PS hires Islamic, Hindu and other denomination cashiers.

My Two Cents. Possibly the reason she is working in such a job is that as an apparently new immigrant she may have a limited choice of jobs she can do! Also we have no idea of what has happened behind the scenes at that store. She may, for example, have requested to be put into an area without contact with pork products, but been turned down by a manager who just felt like being an asshole that day. Or possibly if her english skills are not 100% perfect, there may have been honest misunderstandings about what her job requirements are. Don't forget that what you see as a customer in a shop can just be the tip of the ice berg, and she is probably only working there cos she can't work elsewhere!..|

To me this is just bigotry in another form, I'm amazed what kinds of things make it into newspapers. Yeah, let's all be scared of them moslems.
 
I ran into one today...

Some lady wearing like 19th century clothes insisted she couldn't let meat be bagged with dairy, or with vegetables; the meat had to be bagged with meat only, and the dairy with dairy only, and of course soaps and cleansers needed their own bag, and--
Is it just me, or is that stuff from about 1000 B.C. ?
