Muslims can't do the job.....

I am have read a few of these, and I see that it is kind of ugly. So, as has been said before, here are my two cents.

If you have an aversion to handling pork (or anything else for that matter), that's fine. You don't even need to justify it to the rest of us.

This woman should have been aware of the possibility of handling it. She should have requested a job in which there was no chance of her running into it.

It is her right to not touch pork. But by being in a position where she was going to have to, she inconveinences herself, her customers, and her co-workers.

Agreed. It's just common sense. If she makes it known that these are some of the situations that she cannot handle on her own because of her religious beliefs, then her manager or the person interviewing her can take that into account and place her in a different job in the store that will entirely avoid that situation. Register scanning is a fast and efficient job, and if the situation come sup (which it did) it would only be an inconvenience. If they placed her in shelf checking, produce, or something else, then there's no need ot fear about anything on either end.

It's not "demonizing" Islam, it's taking things into account. If a square peg can't fit in a round hole, then put the square peg in the square hole.
