As an observer sitting on my porch, smoking my cigars, and watching the van loads of illegals being trucked north at all hours of the late evenings along Route 59 here in eastern Oklahoma - the local law officials have to know what those vans are carrying, just as well as I do...but look the other way (even when they are speeding through our little speed trap of a town)...it got me thinking...

"They" sent all the jobs oversees to the cheap labor that were feasible to send...and what jobs were left here because of economics, logistics, whatever - they now are bringing the cheap labor to them..."they" own the politicians, and thus the politicians create laws (and talking points) to favor this invasion - and "we" who are not wealthy are left to do the jobs that serve this new cheap labor force (retail and other service jobs), and there are no more good paying jobs - but lots of low paying jobs in this new service industry taking the illegals money (that doesn't get sent back to their origin country)...

I have traveled extensively through all contiguous 48 states over the past decade...they say 12 million illegals reside here in the shadows of the street corners and Home Depot parking lots - I say 40 to 50 million and growing daily...there are 12 million in southern California alone...

Just my own little hypothesis while smoking on the porch in the evenings...daft or otherwise.

Hm...quite an intesting hypothesis. As Ico said of what Ann Coulter said (and which I agree with), it's almost like (though she and he didn't have the almost in there ^_^) there's a concerted effort to establish a servant class. This idea of the rest of us as a sort of middle-class of service industry workers (with a smattering of higher-middle class scientists, artists, and musicians...socially and culturally needed jobs that require education and investments in time and determination that the new servant class nor the service class wants/can go through/is allowed to go through)

...hm, quite interesting...

It's even more complicated than that. If you are speaking of the Mexican border problem, NAFTA allowed American and Canadian industries to build factories along the Mexican border which caused a major influx of poor uneducated Mexicans to leave their farms and villages and gravitate to the promised jobs in the Milquiladoras (the US and Canadian factories) for which they were not qualified in any way for. This influx of people had nowhere to go, because the new factories and their lucky employees caused a spike in the local border economy causing the price of tortillas and beans to rise beyond the reach of the poor and dispossessed. And across the border, there was a golden land of opportunity (export TV shows told them so). So they all came north.

Subsequently, many of the factories began to close, because it was discovered by the ruling class in America and Canada that Mexico had really little to offer in the way of educated and trainable workers. The factories moved on to Asia, and India, (More tech oriented workers) and left a mass of people in Mexico with great expectations and nowhere to go but north.

This is the most calculated failure of political thinking in the first world ever to come down the pike.

I reminds me of the Scientific studies of animals in the wild. The caveat given to those researchers is to never interfere or alter the animal's environment and social interactions, but just the fact that they often dart the animals to attach tracking collars, and shadow the animal's movements to observe their interactions, alters the environment and social interactions of the animals being studied.

We might as well give up trying to stop this migration north, because the dye has been cast, and in fact, there are jobs no one wants to do in the US and Canada anymore. Imagine, we can all have beautifully landscaped yards for a few cents a day, and clean houses for a change for even less. Keeping up with the Jones will be even more economical than ever before.

Instead of outsourcing jobs to India, why not send them to Mexico?.
That would solve more than one problem.
I get enough annoying calls from people with barely understandable accents from India, a Spanish accent couldn't be any more exasperating.
The Mexican government should provide English language training and then the US provides the jobs and OJT.

Don't even get me started on the illegal alien issue. The political elite of this country, both Republican and Democrat, have done nothing to stop it because they both benefit from it in different ways.

The Republican establishment likes illegal immigration because it provides a never ending pool of cheap labor that can be exploited and suppresses wages at the bottom of the scale.

The Democratic establishment likes illegal immigration because it creates a new category of "victims" that can be exploited for political purposes and creates a vast new underclass that will be in need of government services. This creates opportunities for more government workers, bilingual teachers, social workers, etc. that usually vote Democratic. It also plays into the dogma of multiculturalism and diversity that are proclaimed like some holy mantra on the left. Anyone who disagrees is obviously a bigoted, right-wing extremist, anti-feminist, anti-gay, ethnocentric and intolerant. And who wants to be that? So critics of this liberal orthodoxy just wilt under pressure.

So there is an unusual alliance of both ends of the political spectrum that support the current open borders policy but for different reasons. The economic elite on the right support globalism because they want the complete freedom to move people and capital without regard to international borders so they can maximize their profits. They have no allegiance to any particular country, and there is no such thing as national interests in their outlook. The cultural elite on the left support globalism because they think it dilutes the power and influence of western civilization which in their secular religion is the evil power in the world.

So, needless to say, I have little confidence in the government in actually doing something to stop the massive influx of illegals.

Well said. If the feds wanted to stop the influx, they could do so. There are adequate laws on the books, and have been for years. All they need to do is enforce them.

We should Close Our Borders Right Away COBRA - good acronym.
Build a wall or fence.
Authorize the border patrol to shoot on sight.
Now that school is out for the summer and all those schoolbusses are sitting idle, let's fill them up with illegals and drive them to the border.

Most of all, we should add a 25% tax on all wire transfers to Mexico and Central America. By all accounts, somewhere between Twenty and Thirty-Five Billion Dollars are sent home to Mexico every year by the illegals. That represents Mexico's largest or second-largest source of income.

The whole situation is disgraceful. Last night's news featured a story of an illegal alien driving drunk in a stolen car - had a crash and killed someone. This guy had already been deported twice. Yet, the state of North Carolina had issued him a driver's license.

Tongue, very nice post. My hat of to you.

"They have no allegiance to any particular country, and there is no such thing as national interests in their outlook. "

This is the one thing I disagree with. Most Capitalist Americans do have an allegiance to our flag.

Henry I really like the tax idea also.

I forgot to add that I would use the proceeds from the tax to cover the huge social costs that cities and counties are incurring from the illegals.

The idea of taxing the $20-30 billion that gets wired to Mexico every year is brilliant. The proceeds should be sent to the states to re-imburse them for the cost of all the illegals, since it is state government, not the federal government, that bears most of the cost for our failure to defend the southern border.

The company I work for has twice in the last 3 or 4 years had to let go of 50-60 people at a time because they were working with phony/stolen social security numbers and were here illegally. Not all of them were in the lowest paying positions, either. Some were making $15-$20/hr. So I don't buy the propaganda that illegals only do the work that Americans won't. As soon as these people were fired, they were replaced by Americans or legal residents with green cards.

Hmm I likesome of this but if you were to bus the illegals back then you need to take the Army's troop transports and ship them to the bottom of Mexico. A couple of thousand miles is a decent buffer to overcome before they return.

I like the AMT on Illegals, even better could be to track the money back to its source and verify the citizenship status of those doing the sending. That would require banks to keep better records.

We should then have strong penalties for those found hiring Illegals AND those that provide the services such as the bank.

the second point answers the first point...get rid of the food source, and parasites go away...simple supply and demand in action - get rid (via fines, jail, etc) of the profiteering businesses, and there will be no more bait for the crossing of our borders...it would at least put a huge dent in the amount here, then truck the rest southbound (and wherever else they hail from)

We have those penalties on the books now. There are, in fact, adequate laws on the books to control the illegal immigration problem. Sadly, no administration in recent memory has made any concerted attempt at enforcement.

Wouldn't that be great, to be free of any national allegiance. Isn't that the libertarian wet dream?

I wonder what the effect on the economy would be if we lost 12 or 13 million cheap laborers? That is the question that the deporters do not answer.

I would have to pay much more for a meal at a restaurant, the building trades would collapse and much of the produce
we buy would be more expensive. The deporters need to offer an alternative.

that is a poor argument iman - our food is already sky high irregardless of the cheap labor or not...if the wages were healthy, then americans would be working the fields...like they did before there were no borders...we have a huge prison population available for these jobs - we have a huge "disabled" population available for these jobs - we have a huge lazy teenage population available for these jobs...

and if the wages were healthier, than nobody would mind the higher prices of food...the citizens simply wish the corporations would become citizens too...not borderless profiteers - they are wealthy on this soil, so let them pay the occupants of this soil a living wage to toil it

this talking point that these are jobs americans will not do is at least in large part a lie - it isn't just the field workers...it is most of the construction jobs, most of the road crew jobs, and quite a bit of what is left of our factory jobs that are going to illegals who are willing to undercut the average american worker's wages - and the companies are more than happy to accept the lower paid workers...with a blind eye to our country's laws

In a word, no. The quote option it all or nothing.
I'll do it my way, thank you very much.

But where are you going to find the workers to do all those jobs??? Meanwhile, crops rot in the fields, the construction industry crumbles, grass rows up to our asses. . . And then, once you've got those jobs staffed, what are you going to do to fill the jobs THOSE workers vacated?

The solution is too simplistic, my friend. But sure, let's make sweeping changes based on anecdotal evidence without regard to the outcome. Anymore, that's the Republican way.

Wait! Here's a thought! Instead of deporting Republicans to North Korea (as GA would like), we could make them take the jobs those pesky illegals are hogging to themselves! ;)

Clearly, you know nothing about Libertarian philosophy or its roots.
