Doesn't matter... the nation should have ended slavery as soon as possible... less minutes, days, years, and decades to go by of pure dis-respect and torture..

I'm from South Carolina. What amazes me is: most of the folks who fly that flag think it's THE confederate flag. It's really the confederate battle flag. The real confederate flag is very similar to the US flag. In the battlefield they couldn't tell who they were shooting at, so they made up a battle flag.
Just try telling that to some of the rednecks down here. It just baffles me...how can you display something when you have NO idea of it's history?
I would post pictures of the 2 flags, but I don't want to have anything to do with either of them. It would mean a google search. Afterwards I might have to poke my eyes out.

Here's the one flying over Interstate 75 about 60 miles north of me...
It's *huge*, and unfortunately it's what many tourists see as their first impression of south Florida.
People sue to keep it flying, others sue to take it down...
The *real* meaning of the flag is kind of two-folded. The "good ol' boys" will tell you it's a symbol of freedom and the south is going to rise again and all that crap...
But, the actual meaning is, "No blacks and no gays are welcomed round these parts...." Oh, and also "Shit ! Dare's a blackie in the White House !"

It was the battle flag for the Confederate States of America,or the southern states that rebelled against the United States and broke away from the Union.They started our Civil War.Some 4 years and 600,000 thousand lives later(the highest number of casulaties in ANY war the U.S has ever fought in.) they were defeated and the southern U.S. lay in ruins.After their defeat and surrender,they were brought back under the authority of the Federal Government and rejoined the United States.
I believe the U.S. government should have taken an approach much like postwar Germany,and outlawed all Confederate flags,except for the purposes of displaying in museums.Fly a Swastika in Berlin and see if your ass don't locked up..
Here in the U.S. since the end of the Civil War, it has been used almost exclusively by racists and other hatemongers.It is a staple at Klan rallies and skinhead/nazi rallies..
Yet,we are told that it it stands for ''heritage ,not hate.'' I say their full of shit.It's always stood for hatred since it's creation.
I'd see a lot of them on semi trucks when I drove truck.Years of driving truck and being surrounded by redneck filth have shot to shit any argument about ''heritage''..The whole heritage of that flag has been one of hatred,murder and enslavement.What's there to celebrate?

I have no idea what the flyers of Confederate flags mean to say, but I can tell you exactly how I interpret it:
They're still fighting the Civil War.
To me, flying a Confederate flag is a few steps short of treason. I'll defend their right to exercise free speech and fly it, but I will (and do) vigorously oppose the values the Confederate South represented.

well.....i own a Confederate flag and drive a ford bronce 1993 5.8 liter engine and the thing is i am not the slightest bit racist. the reason i have it is because i see it representing my ancestors gave their lives for what they believe in and the civil war was the deadliest war US has ever been in because it was a total loss for both sides in lives

If you fly a swastika flag and say that to you it just means your German ancestors who gave their lives for what they believe in, people will think you're a racist. And they will be right.

Symbols don't mean what you mean by them when you display them. Their meaning is the impression they create in the minds of people who see them.
If you are not a racist, don't fly or display the Confederate Flag. You wouldn't go around saying "I'm a racist" if you're not racist, and that's what flying the Confederate Flag is saying, whether you like it or not.

Some people are ignorant of either the meaning of their symbol (either historic or current)
Maybe it has some sentimental meaning. "My grandpa used to have that flag, and after he died, i just thought it reminded me of him."
If either of these are the case, you trying to retaliate with your own flag would be meaningless. It would just aggregate other neighbors who would then be talking about their two "unusual" neighbors.
If it is someone who is racist to the core, then what are you going to accomplish? They'll just assume that you are the ignorant one.
Have you ever met this neighbor? Do you have any impression other than the flag? If it is for the shock value, then it might just be a passing phase - ESPECIALLY if no one notices or comments. If it is someone that you've met and can carry on a conversation, then i would ask "Hey what's up with the flag?" then just listen to what they have to say.
